Irene found herself in a bit of a bind. She really didn't want to hurt a kid's feelings, but if it weren't Theodore's feelings that were hurt, then it would be Jacklyn's.

"You'll just have to bear with it, Theo," she thought with a sigh.

"Theo, what I did wasn't stealing. It's fair competition. I like Mr. Jarrett a lot, too, just like how you like him. Actually, no, my feelings for him are a bit more complicated," Irene explained slowly.

Theodore harrumphed loudly as his face scrunched up in protest. "You can't steal him from me, Irene."
