Anika’s P.O.V
“Better?” Gustav asked, handing me a cup of warm ginger lemonade that he had just whipped up in my kitchen, as I sat on the couch, the covers thrown over my still trembling form.
This was the same couch that Axton slept on every night…
Shaking that thought out of my head, I took a sip of the lemonade, feeling the warm, sour liquid travel down my throat, bringing me instant relief. Previously, I had felt like gagging even after Gustav had given me plain water from my car after he had found me sprawled out in the middle of the road.
Gustav had escorted me home, leaving his own car behind with Officer Emilio, just so he could drive me home. He’d waited in my kitchen, preparing the lemonade as I took a shower, scrubbing myself raw because I felt so filthy. But now, all I felt was…nothing. I felt completely numb; like I was one step away from having a mental breakdown.
“No?” Gustav sat at the foot of the couch, his ha
Axton’s P.O.V “Hello, little brother.” I whipped around to face Gustav, crouching down in preparation for an attack. My wolf snarled inside my mind, wanting to take over, wanting to tear him apart piece by piece. But Gustav merely smirked, leaning against a nearby tree. “I’m not going to attack or try to kill you, Axton.” He shook his head. “I had given up on that idea the second I found out that Anika is your mate.” A growl tore through me. “Don’t you dare go near her!” “Or what?” He tilted his head to the side to study me, the smirk growing wider. “It’s funny how you’re acting the mean, big bad wolf when you have another woman’s scent all over you. Looks like I didn’t have to do much this time, Axton. You screwed up on your own.” “At least I screwed up, Gustav,” I growled at him. “I didn’t murder my own mate.” The next thing I know, I was being slammed against a tree hard enough that leaves fell from the tree
Anika’s P.O.V“Morning Dr. Meh…are you okay?”Fin came around the desk to greet me, her expression concerned as she looked me up and down. “Do you have a fever? Are you sick?”“That horrible, huh?” I asked her. It was Monday morning and I looked like shit.I knew I had to get out of this ridiculous stupor that I was in like my boyfriend had just dumped me. I hadn't eaten properly the last couple days and neither could I fall asleep. The instant I closed my eyes, that dreadful image filled my mind. Axton between Sabrina’s leg…his tongue lapping at her most intimate areas…and then his gemstone green eyes, with that pale yellow glow, meeting mine over Sabrina’s shoulders.I knew the way I was acting was simply stupid, but I couldn’t seem to get that image out of my head.It should’ve been me! A voice echoed inside my head every time
Anika’s P.O.V“Where are we?” I asked, looking at the cabin in front of us.This was just like any other cabins in this mountain that I had come across so far, but somehow, it still looked beautiful, more ornate than most. Maybe because it was two storied? Or maybe because it was set at the very edge of the cliff. The maker of this cabin had made a very bold decision and it had worked out beautifully.“My house.” Gustav gave me a bright smile. “I thought you would like some home-cooked meals rather than restaurant food. You’ve been having takeout almost every day.”“You saw that?” I asked him sheepishly. Of course he knew I was having take out every day, the little police station was right opposite to the diner and from what I had noticed, the middle-aged woman that owned the diner was quiet friendly with him.“I tend to notice interesting things about interesting pe
Anika’s P.O.V“Shit!”I knelt on the ground, gathering the broken shards of glass with trembling fingers. What was going on? How come Gustav and Axton were related…why…when...?My mind was a jumbled mess as I tried and failed to make sense of everything around me.“Don’t touch that!” Gustav’s voice was harsh as I felt him tug on my arms. “You’ll cut yourself.”“No…it’s…” what was I saying? What was I supposed to say?Why the fuck was I so pathetic?“Hey…Anika. Look at me.” Gustav lifted my face to his with his fingers below my chin. “I’m sorry for confusing you. I know I said Lily had a lover and that…”“He might be the killer.” I finished for him, my voice barely above a whisper. “But…he’s your brother.”
Axton’s P.O.VSabrina tilted her head to one side, making her dark hair slide off her shoulders to reveal the taut mound of her breasts. They were beautiful and supple, a handful; and her nipples were budded into stiff peaks.Trading through the water, I reached her side of the pool and stood in front of her.Lifting up my hands, I placed them on her waist, but Sabrina pushed me back using her legs and got up from the floor. Confused, I frowned at her, waiting to ask what she was doing. But then she made her way to the bed and got into it. And then she called me over with a flick of a finger.Narrowing my eyes, I got out of the water, rose petals sticking to my body as dried off the water before heading to the bed. Getting on it, I covered her body with mine, straddling her hips as I leaned down to place my hands on either side of her head.Sabrina looked at me with wolf gold eyes, sliding her fingers over my hand to rest the
Axton’s P.O.VNo!I refused to believe it.Anika wasn’t dead! NO!“Drive!” I ordered Tiffany as soon as we got into the car. It might have been faster to go in our wolf form, but I would still be entering enemy territory.Tiffany didn’t need to be told twice. The second Tiffany had shared the news…it had felt like the world had ended for me right then and there.Gustav killed Anika…Gustav killed Anika…The words reverberated inside my head like a bullet ricocheting through my insides, damaging every organ in the process.Yes, it was completely my fault. I had been foolish enough to push her away right from the beginning because she was human. But why had I forgotten that the mates chosen for by the moon goddess were based on exactly what we lacked and what we needed?‘Our mates are specially chosen for us out o
Axton’s P.O.V“Anika…” I called cautiously; standing up from the ground as my body ached. How? How? HOW? My wolf howled inside my mind. And I didn’t have any answer for him…and the only one I could think of…it was impossible. Her attention snapped to me instantly and she bared her teeth to me, a sound emitting from her throat that was equivalent to a growl. What the hell just happened?“Anika…” I held up my hands in front of my body in a gesture of surrender, trying to show her that I didn’t mean to harm her. And that was a fact; I would never hurt Anika, not intentionally. I know she had mental scars from me rejecting to mate with her, but she wasn’t a wolf…she hadn't been a wolf…“Let her go, Anika.” I told her, keeping my voice low. “I’m the one you want to her, not her. Tiffany didn’t wrong you
Gustav’s P.O.V:Two weeks ago… “Lily?” I placed her favourite breakfast in front of her on the table. “Baby, you need to eat. You haven’t been eating properly since you found out the news.”Lily stayed quiet, her expression neutral as she kept looking out the window at the view of the mountains outside.I desperately wanted to help her, to comfort her, but I felt utterly helpless. Maybe I shouldn’t have told her about what happened to my mother. Maybe I shouldn’t have shared everything just yet…I know as my mate, she had the right to know about my past and my upbringing, but neither of us had even imagined we could get into this situation.I was just as lost as she was in this situation and I knew that as the days passed, she will develop an emotional attachment to the fetus and her want to reveal the truth to Axton will sl
