Chapter 2

Author: Jade in the Woods
"I knew it! You were cheating on me!" Noelle screamed at the top of her lungs, slapping my cheek. Her loud scream immediately drew the attention of everyone around us.

She continued interrogating me. "Who is the damn bitch?"

"I never cheated on you," I replied. "I just don't think that we're suitable for each other anymore."

"Not suitable?" she echoed with a sneer. "We've been married for years, and you're only telling me now that we're not suitable for each other? Do you even believe what you're saying?

"You don't know what else to say to me, do you, Derek? Fine! We'll get a divorce! And I'll make sure you walk out penniless!"

I looked at Noelle. Her face was streaming with tears, but I saw the glint of sly calculation in her eyes.

I spoke in a voice that was just loud enough for everyone around us to hear. "Noelle, you know very well how I've been treating you all these years since we got married.

"But you keep accusing me of cheating on you every single day and constantly disrupting company operations. It's exhausting. I'm willing to split our assets 50-50 in the divorce.

"However, if you insist on making me walk out penniless, then we'll bring this matter to court. And when that happens, we'll see who the one walking out of this marriage penniless really is."

Noelle panicked visibly. Of course, she knew there was no evidence the court could uncover against me if I really brought this matter to court. However, if those three messages were real, then she would be the one walking out with nothing instead.

Her eyes reddened as tears streamed down her cheeks again. She softened her tone and said, "Derek, have you already made up your mind to divorce me?"

I looked at her in confusion. "Weren't you the one who brought it up first?"

"I was just acting out of desperation! I felt insecure! That's why I kept testing you over and over!" she exclaimed. "What, you liked it when I was possessive over you when we were dating. But now, you find it annoying instead?"

She then gave me a pained, aggrieved look.

Her expression reminded me of seven years ago when we started dating. I was the one who'd fallen for her at first sight and pursued her relentlessly for six months before finally getting her to agree to go out to the movies with me as our first date.

But the second day after we made things official, she renamed all of the female contacts on my phone and even changed all my social media bios to include the words "Married—Stay Out!" in the first line.

I had doubled over in laughter back then, thinking that it was very amusing and hilarious of her. She told me that this was her being possessive of me, and I thought that it was kind of endearing. I quite liked how much she glued herself to me all the time.

But now, Noelle was abusing her "possessiveness" and using it to chip away at my love for her until she finally ruined me.

I looked at the tears slipping down her face and still refused to change my mind.

"You know very well whether this kind of possessive behavior is normal or not."

"I…"

She wanted to retort, but she stopped herself and just swallowed her words. Then, she suddenly went out-of-character and apologized.

"I'm sorry, honey. I was wrong. It's just that I care about you too much…"

I was stunned and perplexed for a long moment. This was the first time she had ever apologized to me in the past seven years we'd been together.

She didn't have the courage to burn bridges with me. That only further proved that the three text messages I received this morning were telling the truth.

My heart began to race. I also made up my mind about getting a divorce. However, I had to first find out the full truth behind this farce before divorcing her.

I tried to calm Noelle down by promising that I wouldn't divorce her. I then added, "You'll also have to promise me that you will not interfere with my company affairs again in the future.

"If you still think that I'm cheating on you, then bring your evidence to the table instead of throwing a huge fuss at the company like this, slapping people, or demanding that I fire anyone.

"But if you cannot promise that, then I will proceed with the divorce."

"Okay," she said with an aggrieved nod of her head.

I then came up with an excuse to leave the office. The first thing I did after leaving was to text a private investigator, Isaac Ford.

"I want you to investigate my wife, Noelle Ramsey."

I immediately called Nathan and asked him to bring me the divorce agreement at the hospital.Noelle looked at me with a defeated air. She seemed like she'd aged five years in an instant, with dark circles under her eyes and cracked and peeled lips. She'd stopped crying by now. Or maybe she was already past the point of crying.I looked at her without a shred of pity in my eyes. "You have two options, Noelle. One, you sign this divorce agreement right now, and we will end our marriage amicably. I will give you your legal share of the marital assets. That is the last bit of decency I'm willing to give you."Two, you don't sign the agreement, and I will take you to court. I will use all the evidence of your infidelity, false accusations, and perjury to pursue criminal charges against you with the maximum sentence that will leave you with nothing but a criminal record and prison time."Noelle was stunned for a very long time. Finally, she stared at me and asked, "We've been together f

I then quickly showed the police officers the transfer records, the GPS tracking logs, and the surveillance screenshots from the entrance of Bluebell Cove apartments."This is comprehensive evidence of the affair between my wife, Noelle Ramsey, and Howard Pearce during our marriage. I continued in a flat voice as though I were just talking about a quarterly business report."Furthermore, the tech company that Howard registered under his name six months ago is nothing but a shell company. Over the past three months, he worked with headhunters to frequently contact the core technical employees at my company, intending to poach them all once Noelle pressured me into firing them."The two of them conspired together in this scheme—one undermining my marriage and judgment from the inside, and the other hollowing out my company from the outside. This is not just a simple infidelity affair. This is a premeditated act of corporate sabotage."A deathly silence fell over the hallway. There

Amanda became increasingly incoherent as she spoke. She was having an emotional breakdown. Ultimately, she screamed, "Those photos were also fake! It was also Mrs. Weaver who asked me for photos, and then she got someone to edit the photos together!"As she lay collapsed on the ground, sobbing so hard she could barely catch her breath, I noticed a passerby holding up a phone with the camera pointed right at us. The screen clearly displayed a very popular live-streaming platform, and the viewer count in the top left corner skyrocketed from the hundreds to the thousands, then to the tens of thousands. The comments section had also exploded with comments from the viewers. The video that Noelle posted earlier today was still trending online, and plenty of people had tuned in to this livestream hoping to watch the continuation of the story. Instead, they ended up seeing a video of Amanda lying on the ground, admitting that everything had been orchestrated by Noelle. The netizens' ton

Amanda's tears stopped instantly, as if the tap had suddenly been shut off."You… What's the meaning of this?" she asked in a shaky voice, taking a step back instinctively. "I'm pregnant with your baby! And you still want a paternity test? This is an insult!"Noelle chimed in at once. "Exactly! You're just feeling guilty, Derek Weaver!"Howard also said even more urgently than them, "Derek! How could you force a pregnant woman to undergo a paternity test? Can you face the consequences if anything goes wrong?"I looked at the three of their varying panicked expressions and sneered."You say I'm feeling guilty? If I were really guilty, would I even have proposed taking the paternity test? I bet it's some other people feeling guilty who don't want the paternity test done!"My gaze swept back and forth between Noelle and Howard before I turned to the police officers."Officer, since Amanda voluntarily cited her pregnancy as evidence to accuse me of being her baby's father, therefore

A video began playing on the screen, and the background was set in the cafe downstairs of our office building. In the footage, Noelle sat across from Amanda, saying, "You just have to speak up at the crucial moment and tell Derek to give you an official title as his wife. I'll handle the rest."Howard, who was seated next to Noelle, held up his coffee cup and smiled as he added, "Once that's done, I'll transfer 500 thousand dollars into your account."The video was crystal clear, and every word they said sounded like a knife straight back into their own chests.Noelle's lips began to tremble. However, she still wasn't completely panicked just yet. She just took a deep breath and said without hesitation, "This is fake! This is slander!"Howard chuckled coldly as he stared at the video. "Everyone knows just how advanced AI technology is nowadays. How hard could it be for you to get someone to swap our faces in? "Even if you cheated on Noelle and didn't feel like giving all of your

I was completely dumbfounded. I could guarantee that nothing had ever happened between us, so why was she slandering me like this? When Noelle heard this, she cried and screamed even louder than before."Derek Weaver! You heartless jerk! You bastard! Tell me the truth! When did you start having an affair with her?"I gritted my teeth angrily and shot back immediately. "I do not have an affair with her! How was I supposed to know that she would suddenly start spreading lies about me?""Mr. Weaver! How could you say that I was spreading lies about you?" Amanda wailed, looking at me with teary eyes. "You were the one who grabbed me one night when I saw you working overtime till dawn and came over to check on you! "You… You told me that you were unhappy at home and asked me to comfort you! And I felt guilty toward Mrs. Weaver the whole time, but I couldn't afford to lose this job! You promised me that you'd come clean with her and marry me, which was the only reason I gave in in the
