Axel's POV
“Violet” Her name fell from my lips as the world snapped back into focus, and a dull ache pulsed behind my eyes. How could I have let myself lose control like that? My chest rose as I saw her figure sprawled on the floor. Panic shot through me like lightning and I dropped to my knees, hands shaking as I gathered her limp body into my arms. Her skin felt too cold, but she was breathing, it was shallow but I was relieved it was there. I titled her head a little to cradle her in my arms exposing my mark on her neck, instantly a sickening wave of horror crashed over me. No. No, no, no. I wasn’t supposed to— I came here to reject her, to cut this bond before it could ruin everything. But the second my eyes locked on her, the second her scent curled through my senses, my wolf lunged forward taking over. I lost control. And now— Now she was bound to me. My stomach twisted painfully. Violet was human. She wasn’t built to handle this. The bond was too strong, too much for her body to bear. And it was my fault. My arms tightened around her. She looked small curled against my chest. Her lips, slightly parted, held no color. If she had screamed, I wouldn't have heard it. Had she fought? Had she been afraid? Afraid of me? My jaw clenched and I had to force down the urge to slap myself, how could I be so reckless. The pull grew stronger now I had sealed the bond, the overwhelming urge to keep her from harm’s way threatened to consume me, her scent was the only thing worth breathing for and her face… the moon goddess be praised. She was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen, and she was mine. No, I made her mine. Guilt crawled through my ribs as the realization dawned on me, I had taken something from her—something she never agreed to, something she might never want. She was human, how was she to handle the news that I was a werewolf, will the pack members accept their Luna was human, a weaker vessel who couldn't protect them. And worse? I couldn’t even keep her. I had promised Kate, sworn loyalty to her as an Alpha my word meant everything, it was a principle I followed no matter but Violet was an exception. She shifted slightly in my arms, a faint whimper escaping her lips. My heart lurched. I reached up, brushing strands of hair from her face. Her skin burned under my fingertips, feverish from the mate bond trying to root itself inside her. She wouldn’t survive this. Not without me. And I— I didn’t know what to do, or how to help ease her pain. This was a mistake. A terrible, unforgivable mistake. Through the haze of my thoughts I heard footsteps head towards us, I didn't pay attention to it till she called out to me. “Axel!” Kate screamed excitedly, the sound twisted something in my chest. I turned, still holding Violet, and Kate’s smile froze. Her bright eyes flickered over my face, studying me. She could tell something was wrong. The bags she held slipped lower in her hands. “What are you doing…?” Then her gaze dropped to Violet in my arms. Her mouth parted slightly, confusion flashing across her face. And then she saw it. The mark. The bags hit the ground with a thud. Kate’s hands trembled as she covered her mouth, her entire body locking in place. Horror filled her eyes, drowning out every other emotion. “Axel…” Her voice cracked. “Tell me this isn’t real.” I swallowed hard, arms tightening around Violet. “Kate, I—” “You marked her?” she whispered, like she was still trying to convince herself she wasn’t seeing what was right in front of her. The devastation in her voice sliced through me like a blade. “Kate please- “After all the promises Axel, you lied to me!” She interrupted her eyes glassy filled with tears and I felt her heart break a little more. “Kate this wasn’t supposed to happen, I—” “How could you?” Her voice shot up full of hurt. “Kate, listen to me.” My throat tightened as I struggled to explain. “I lost control, I—” “You lost control?” Her hands clenched into fists at her sides. “After everything I did for you? After every promise?” Guilt clawed up my chest. “I didn’t mean for this to happen—” “Don’t.” Her voice wavered. “Just don’t.” Pain twisted her features, her lips pressing together like she was trying to hold herself together. Then, in one sharp motion, she pointed at the door. “Leave.” I flinched. “Kate—” “Get out.” “I need you to listen.” She took a step forward and shoved me. I stumbled back dropping Violet stunned. She was shaking, her breathing ragged, but her strength caught me off guard. “Now look what you've done, you're going to hurt her!” I blurted out before I could realize what I just did. “You care so much about her huh? Kate accused, frustrated I ran a hand through my face. “You're not letting me talk” I tried explaining yet she didn't want to concede. “I don't want to hear it” Her voice broke. “Get out!” The door slammed in my face before I could say another word. “Kate please open up let me explain” I pleaded at the otherside of the door. She didn't respond, instead I heard the lock of the door click. A muscle in my jaw twitched. My chest heaved as I pressed a hand against the door, heart hammering. I knocked harder this time. “Kate, please—” No response. I hit the door again, harder. “Just let me explain!” Nothing. My fists clenched as a growl rumbled low in my throat. “Damn it!” I cursed under my breath and pressed my forehead against the wood, squeezing my eyes shut. Violet was my fated mate but I owed Kate my life. Who am I supposed to choose?Violet's POV With those words, it was like a veil was lifted, exposing the reality I had been trying to avoid; I was alone in this.It didn't matter if I was back home trying to survive my jealous roommate or in a pack full of discriminating wolves I would forever be fighting.I didn't mean those words, but forgive a girl for being a little overwhelmed after being attacked by the very people she believed who protect her.My gaze involuntary scanned where that man was seated, he bit his bottom lip as if holding back a laugh and it irked me to the core.Out of the corner of my eye, a woman stepped forward. "You," she pointed at me. "Walk with me."Without waiting for my response, she turned on her heel then walked away.Guess I didn't have a choice, I followed behind as we moved through the hallway. A lot of things ran through my head,What did she want from me? Was the summary.Abruptly, she stopped. Before I could bait an eye, her hand flashed out and cracked across my face with a s
Violet's POV My lashes slowly fluttered open, the first thing that hit me was the throbbing in my head.It momentarily blinded me for a solid minute before I could snap back to reality. There was a blanket thrown over me, and I frowned confused. I wasn't in my room so where did this blanket come from? For a moment, I lay there, staring at the beads of sunlight that forced its way through the high trees. My mind was blank, body slow to respond but one thing was for certain I wasn't the type of person to go camping. Then abruptly it hit me through the fog,Everything that happened before I passed out the wolves,Sapphire. And one name rose to my lips, my voice hoarse as I whispered,"Elias."I shifted, wincing as every sore muscle screamed in protest. My cognitive skills began working again. I choked as the metallic stench of blood hit me, my stomach twisted, if it wasn't empty I would have puked.Scrunching my nose, I forced myself to sit up, clutching the blanket around my shoulder
Violet's POVI stared at Sapphire, the truth tightening my chest. "You’re human, Violet. You should choose your own," she said, her chin lifted defiantly.I didn't know about acceptance but she stood for the same thing as the wolves. They had the same motive but were on two different teams. This was a losing game for both teams.I shook my head slowly, confusion prickling my skin. "But why?" My voice cracked before I could catch it. "All this hatred... Why can’t humans and werewolves just… just get along?"I wasn't just asking for her reasoning, I was pleading for an answer that made any of this madness make sense.Sapphire's eyes darkened. "You’re asking the wrong question," she said. Her words dripped with disdain, but under it, I heard something else too pain. "Violet, do you really believe you’re the first human to be mated to a werewolf?"I opened my mouth but nothing came out. I hadn’t… I hadn’t thought about it. With the way everyone acted, I was made to believe it was somet
Violet's POV “Good morning my lady” a voice steered me awake. I fluttered my lashes softly peeking to see Lia grinning.“Can't I stay in bed for just one second?” I groaned, rolling the pillow over my face.It felt like I hadn't slept in ages, my body yearned for more rest.“My lady I would have let you if it wasn't important, but this is your first Luna tea party”“That's not my problem” I yawned, sinking deeper into the mattress.“My lady, please, you have to do this,” Lia spoke softly tugging at the pillow. “Other Lunas from other packs will soon arrive to see you.”Other Lunas?I snapped my eyes open, pushing off the pillow.“What do you mean other Lunas?” I questioned frantically.“It's tradition, before your coronation other Lunas are to welcome you, and since you have quite the reputation you have more guests than usual.”I frowned, running a hand through my ruffled hair.I could already taste the disaster, if the maids were shabby how would other high ranked Lunas act?“Is th
Violet’s POV I kept going, brushing off the rankled sting of the elder’s words as I made my way through the stone hallways. He just gave me a reason to find Axel and tell him what happened, his pack was discriminating against its people. The madness for power had blinded everyone. I had to make sure he knew about Noella, and maybe even ask why his guards acted like I was some criminal to be hauled around. They stood by my side like escorts, their legs moving robotically as we walked through the hallway. They didn't even speak when that elder was threatening me… well then again they didn't care when Noella was dying,Why would they give a fuck about me?“Here” one of them announced as they turned around a corner, I followed my legs aching exhaustion creeping slowly through me.I didn't know how long we had been at the hospital, my body didn't acknowledge time when all I wanted was to save a life, but now I could feel how much I had stressed myself,And the hours we had stayed pacin
Violet's POV “Get the doctor, Lia” I said flabbergasted. I was still astonished by what I had just witnessed.“They didn't respond to me” Lia responded, her eyes focused on Noella.Instinctively I gathered the skirts of my gown then bolted out of the room. If I had to drag him down her to check on her so be it .“DOCTOR!” I yelled, sprinting down the hallway until I found the same uninterested man who had told us there was nothing more he could do. I grabbed his arm, breathless. “She’s breathing. She’s back. Noella’s alive! Please come check on her”He stared at me like I was insane pulling his hand away. “I already said we can't do anything else” he dismissed about to walk away but I stood in his way.“I asked for a check-up, you don't want your Alpha knowing you denied such a simple request” I didn’t wait for him to reply. I turned on my heel and began walking knowing throwing in the Alpha card was something that would get him to come. And just as I suspected his footsteps trailed
