My hand fumbled around in my bag in search of my phone but when I finally fished it out, I noticed it was dead.
I suspired in disappointment and then mumbled to myself, half shrugging, “It will be a surprise visit then,”
I had just closed from work and I've been looking forward to visiting my boyfriend at his apartment.
Shuffling to the sidewalk, I flagged down a taxi that took me straight to my destination. On reaching there, I paid the driver his fare, even tipping him a little.
I scaled up the stairs to the second floor and ultimately froze before a grey metal door. I reached into my bag and took out the spare key he'd given me ten months ago.
Soon, I stepped into the living room and dropped my bag on the couch.
"Honey," I called out in a loving tone.
No answer.
I headed to the kitchen, but he wasn't there.
So I decided to check out the bedroom. I found the door was slightly ajar and considering the aspect of privacy, I made to knock.
But I froze when suggestive sounds unexpectedly drifted out of the room. At that, my heart temporarily forgot its one job for a moment.
Were my ears playing tricks on me? No, it couldn't be... It couldn't be what I was thinking.
I shook off the appalling thoughts that had sneakily crept into my mind. Norman loved me so much, he...he wouldn't betray me.
But then...the sounds of frenzied moans crescendoedand I let curiosity get the best of me.
I pushed the door wider and stepped into the bedroom, only to witness what I'd never dreamt of in a million years.
"Ah~ Fuck me harder, baby~ Ahh~!"
"You're so naughty, Alvina,"
My fears were confirmed and I felt my heart, in that moment, shattering into a thousand pieces.
There he was, my boyfriend of two years, on his bed, with a woman I had never met before, in a compromising position.
“Norman!” I cried out shakily, my eyes already misty.
My abrupt yell caused him to jump up instantly and upon locking eyes with me, he tried to cover his shame and that of the unknown lady as well.
"Why?!" I queried, my voice filled with anger and the hurt of his betrayal.
"V-Violet, i-it's not what it looks like," he stammered.
I scoffed a bitter laugh, "Oh really? Then explain, Norman," I crossed my arms before my chest, "Convince me that you weren't sleeping with some random girl. Convince me that you two were just playing house!"
The girl on the bed looked annoyed. "Norman, you didn't tell me you had a girlfriend," she said. Then she got off the bed to gather her things, which were scattered about the room.
"Alvina..." Norman called her with a look of guilt.
"Don't ever call me again," the red-haired lady said as she slipped into her clothes quickly.
Then she walked to me and sized me up and down with a stuck-up look, "And I'm not some..." she made mocking air quotes, "...random girl. I have way more class than you ever will, bitch!" With that, she brusquely jostled me before walking out the door.
Norman got off the bed, a towel draped around his waist. Then he tried coming close to me, but I unfolded my arms and told him not to move an inch.
"Violet," he softly said with a pleading look, "...please, calm down. I didn't mean for this to happen."
But I wasn't having any of it. "Can you even listen to yourself?" I spat, feeling the tears starting to well up in my eyes.
Why did I fall for a lying, cheating jerk?
Palpable tension lingered in the air between us and he soon broke the silence, raking his hand through his already tousled brown hair.
“Look, Violet, it's not entirely my fault, you're also to blame for this,"
His words made me wish I could just tear him apart. He cheated on me and still had the guts to shift blame on me as well?
Wow!
"I am a man with needs, you know. And you won’t even let me touch you,”
I nodded, a bitter smile tugging at the corners of my lips.
"So, it's my fault?! It's my fault for wanting to keep myself for you till the wedding night?" I questioned him.
Norman sighed, "Well...it's already happened. But...I promise it'll never happen again. Even if it does, you shouldn't worry, you're still the only one in my..."
"Shut up," I said, my low voice quaking with spiking rage.
"What?" He asked, a frown already etching on his face.
And I lost it.
"SHUT UP. JUST SHUT THE FUCK UP, YOU SCOUNDREL!" I howled, tears rolling down my face freely.
I shook my head, feeling a mix of overwhelming sadness and anger, "I'm done, Norman. We're over!"
Making a swift pivot, I exited the room, leaving him and his betrayal behind.
"Violet..."
I slammed the door behind me, heading straight for the final exit of the apartment, not even glancing over my shoulder once.

I stepped out of Norman’s apartment building. Night had come, the evening breeze made my hair flutter and my clothes to billow. It softly caressed my skin but failed to placate my broken heart.
I stared at the sparsely starred sky, my lips quivering as I fought to restrain another tear from cascading. But when I failed, I quickly wiped my cheek with the back of my hand and stalked out into the night.
As I plodded along the quiet road that would lead to the main road, I got lost in my musings as various thoughts freely invaded my mind.
When I felt too punch-drunk to continue, I decided to pause and rest on the public bench situated under a particular tree.
Just a moment later, I was taken aback by a distant howl that, despite its remoteness, filled me with a sense of discomfort.
I rose from the bench and my feet went on autopilot, wanting to reach the main road as soon as possible. Out of nowhere, I detected a strange noise coming from the trees in front of me, making my heart race.
Just when I thought of making a pivot, I heard the distressed voice of someone calling out for help. My instinct as a doctor kicked in instantly and I rushed forward, tracing the exact location of the one who needed help. I found the person—a man with the build of a linebacker—sitting up against a tree ahead.
Reaching his exact spot, I was stunned to find that he didn’t even have a stitch on. But this wasn’t the time to question why it was so. I removed my jacket and covered him before struggling to make him stand.
Damn, he was quite heavy!
But I couldn’t just leave him here. With the degree of injuries he had, he could die.
With him leaning on me, we slowly ambled over to the main road. I planned to take him to the hospital, for that was where he would get proper attention.
“No… hospital,” he mumbled to me with a shake of his head, his eyes still tightly shut, holding his injured side.
“You’re badly injured,” I reasoned, preparing to hail a taxi.
“No,” he stubbornly shook his head, “No hospital, please. Bad for my kind,” he said through gritted teeth.
I lifted a brow in wonder. Was he perhaps a fleeing criminal? Was he afraid his pursuers would find him at the hospital?
“I’ll bring you to my home then,” I finally relented and he managed to say a word of thanks.
Finally, we got into a taxi and I could see the driver looking at us weirdly, but I didn’t mind.
When we got to my apartment’s building, I assisted the mysterious man out of the vehicle and paid the frowning driver the fare. Thankfully, my apartment was on the first floor, otherwise taking the stairs in his condition would be awful.
Soon, I had him sit on the sofa and quickly rushed get my first aid kit and a few other essentials. Not long after, he was asleep on the couch, covered by a blanket and I couldn't help but admire the man in front of me.
If beauty was a sin, then he would grab the title of the biggest sinner. Even though he was pale from the pain, his attractiveness stat didn’t go down.
Subconsciously, I gulped at the exposed shoulder and the outline of his solid 6 packs. It took a lot of willpower to tear my gaze off him.
After showering and changing into a fresh set of clothes, I went to check up on him. Seeing that he was still unconscious, I whirled on my heel and headed for the entrance door, holding my purse in hand.
Chapter 32Axel’s POVI was the last one to step out before the doors closed behind me with a loud thud, sealing Violet and the seer inside.I didn’t know what I expected from that meeting, well that was the thing with Mariah you never knew what to expect. My body ached like I’d just shifted and fought ten wolves back-to-back. Every breath felt heavier than the last.I needed out of my head. Without a word, I turned to leave.“Alpha Axel I hope you're satisfied” we've had too much time together I could recognize him by his voice, councilman Reed.I turned around, cocking a brow at his ridiculous statement.“Excuse me?” “Your human mate is causing a lot of problems” the choleric old man snapped.“And your temper is causing unnecessary drama” Surprisingly I wasn't the one who spoke. I turned to look at Elder Azure. This was the first time I ever heard her speak. She was the first woman to join the elders, and as I could recall she was one of the elders my father had genuine respect for
Chapter 31Violet’s POVThe royal seer? Was she some type of priestess? She looked way too young and ravishing to be a seer, if watching Harry Potter taught me anything, it was that they were all old hags. But the lady was far from it, she looked barely older than me, her silver hair falling just below her shoulders, even with the flowing gown, you could see her beautiful curves.Everything about the werewolf world was different, and that fact alone intimidated me aside from the fact she was literally surrounded by wolves who wanted a piece of me.“Come in, Violet. Don’t be scared,” Mariah called gently from within waving at me with a friendly smile.Easy for her to say. I would be ridiculed the moment I stepped inside that room.I took a step back when I bumped into Axel's Beta.He gave a small nudge to my shoulder. “I’ve been ordered to force you in if you resist,” he whispered softly and I felt a bead of sweat forming at my temple.I glanced at him, searching for any crack in his
It was an intense staring contest.Though my competition, the mysterious letter, didn't have eyes, I could still feel its gaze piercing through me.Who would send me a letter?Only people I could think of were my parents but they didn't know where I was and why would they go through all that trouble? And who was that person? Was this how letters were sent in the pack?Even I knew that was absurd, clearly, that wasn't no mail man.Well I guess there was only one way to find out. Mustering up some courage I walked towards it hesitating before I picked up the cream-coloured envelope.I flipped it checking for a name or stamp, there was nada just a red seal. Pulling it open there was a writing the letter read,Dear Human Reader,Forgive us for being secretive but this is the only way we could reach out to you.Just wanted to thank you, with your help, we’ve infiltrated the Redwood Pack.We regret not saving you earlier from those monsters, but the timing wasn’t right. But we won't stop ti
There was a pause in the atmosphere at my utterance. It was as if no one expected me to speak out.Axel gawked at me, and for a slight second I thought I saw a hint of hurt in his gaze before it quickly disappeared.“Ehm” he cleared his throat, breaking his silence."I reject your rejection, Violet" Axel said, rising from his chair, his frame towering over me.I blinked. For a second, I thought I’d misheard him. “What?”“You heard me,” he reiterated, stepping closer. “I reject your rejection.”My stomach turned. My hands curled into fists at my sides. I could feel the heat crawling up my throat, the familiar burn of frustration and pain. Could he do that? If he could easily claim me and I couldn't get rid of the mate mark how could he counter my rejection?“You can’t just—” I shook my head, a bitter laugh escaping my lips. “The whole theory of lycanthropy is one big joke.”My voice broke as I continued, “Your people don’t want me, Axel, and let’s not pretend you do either. So why am
Violet's POVI stood frozen as all eyes were on me like they had been waiting. I couldn't recognize anyone on either side of the table. They were about six in number with two ladies, their aura screaming powerful. They all had a scornful look that made it hard to breathe. For a moment, I wanted to step back and crawl back into my bed, but then,"My lady," Lia muttered behind me, clasping my hand gently. It somehow managed to subdue the fear that consumed me. I squeezed gently, reminding myself I had thick skin.Taking in much-needed air, I straightened and took another step forward: right, left, right. I reminded myself how to walk until I got to the table."Well, the rumors are true. She is human," one of the ladies spoke first, with no judgment in her tone, just a quiet observation."I see why Axel was hesitant about it. I almost feel bad for him."The man looked at me but still spoke like I wasn't in the room. This was a bad idea. I panicked. And to make things worse Axel wasn't ev
Violet's POV "My lady," Lia said in surprise. "You're awake and you’ve already taken your bath"I've always been a morning person since I had early shifts at the hospital. It was a habit. Besides, how could I stay in bed when there was so much to explore? When my eyes fluttered open and I saw beads of sunlight seeping through the curtains I was elated. That it hadn't been a dream.I was in a king size bed directly under a twinkly chandelier. I explored the room, which was just as big as my flat, like a scene out of a Disney fairytale. So this is what royalty felt like?I finally understood why Kate wanted to kill me for this position, a Luna was basically a Queen pampered like a baby.I hadn't had such a blissful morning in days and I couldn't wait to get out of bed, used to doing things alone, I took my bath and hurried to get dressed.I was walking down the hallway enjoying the architecture when I ran into Lia, my guess she was heading to my room."Yes Lia, and this must be your s
Violet's POV"If it pleases you, my lady," she orated respectfully.I cringed, shaking my head. "My lady sounds too off. Please call me Violet."“I can't, my lady,” she declined softly.“I insist… no, I command it” "Oh no, my lady!" She yelled loudly, dropping to her knees, her head on the ground, arms up as if in prayer. I stepped back quickly astonished by the reaction."It's against the rules my lady, I would be punished terribly for disrespect" she pleaded her voice wracked in fear.I wondered how poorly they treated them here, I didn't care if she was the lowest in the werewolf hierarchy, she was still a person.I walked up to her, lifting her off the ground. "Who makes these stupid rules?" I asked. She refused to meet my eyes and stayed silent."Lia, this is a safe space and the only way you can be my friend is if we interact with one another""I don't know my lady" I frowned as she kept using the formal title."Then who are you so afraid of?" I asked curious. "The rules of th
Violet's POV The drive was so uncomfortable, Axel stayed quiet, his eyes closed like he was meditating but he knew every time I wanted to touch him."Stop" his lips barely moved as he uttered the word stopping me from touching his hair. His features looked more handsome in the dark shade of the car and I was bored out of my mind.My phone battery was dead and there was nothing else to do but annoy him."Are there any humans in your pack?""No" he kept giving curt replies to everything. My mind had gone through every possibility either I would be killed by a wolf or killed from being bored. His gloomy mood stemmed from Kate's anger earlier. If he was promised to her why was he so determined to get me?Maybe the mate bond had influenced it.Still, I had made my decision and I was going to see it through to the bitter end. Being in a city of wolves would be a new experience, maybe they had a hospital.“Is there a hospital in your pack?” I asked.“Yes” the thought made my heart swell.T
Violet's POV I carefully parked next to the haphazardly parked convoy on my driveway. Axel pushed off the car he was leaning on taking a step toward me.I stepped down, meeting him halfway. He let out a sigh of relief and reached to touch me, but I stopped him by raising my hand to block him."Axel, what's going on?" I questioned looking around. There were about five men situated next to a car. They all looked in our direction. I wanted to convince myself they were looking at their leader, Axel, but, no, they were looking at ME.Judging by their scornful looks, they had a problem with my existence."You just arrived, why don't we sit and confabulate" I cocked a brow at him, my gaze narrowing as I noticed something I missed the first time,He seemed anxious.Nothing like the jittering type, but I could tell by the way he tried to feign confidence. He was good at masking it, but seeing him in a stern demeanor all this time, I could tell there was a difference. It must be because of the
