Chapter 5: He stood up.

Laurel's pov

I didn't have time to think because Noah stood up and his eyes met mine, I could see a mixture of disbelief and hurt written all over his face.

“You shot me?” He asked me in a small voice and I took an involuntary step back.

“Ah! Shit!” He yelled out and I flinched.

Noah doesn't cuss.

Noah turned around and ran towards the door, opened it and came out with Tracy and our bag. He was so considerate as to tie a handkerchief over Tracy's face so she won't see her grandparents dead on the floor.

“Get the briefcase let's leave, we have to leave here immediately,” Noah told me and just walked past me but I did nothing so he grabbed the briefcase full of money and came to me and placed it in my hand.

“Let's go outside,” Noah told me, as he picked up the gun of my Dad, as he began to walk away.

“Laurel walk!” Noah yelled and I flinched and ran after him.

He opened his car, tossed the bag in the backseat and dropped Tracy in the backseat, removed her blindfold and he got in.I rushed to get in the front as he instructed and he drove off.

I was still shaking and afraid because I did not know what would happen to me.

Noah drove for ten minutes then ,he checked his phone and then drove inside a tall brush. He got out of the car and used some tree branches and covered the front of the hiding spot and got back into the car.

“Stay very quiet and watch,” he told me as he gave Tracy headphones and an ipad to watch a cartoon.

I was watching very carefully and after ten minutes three cars drove past us at full speed and then Noah sighed.

“Your parents arranged to kidnap you and have me bring money ,so that they will release you and Tracy ,but you should also know that they planned on selling you off to somebody who is my enemy, so that he can use you to blackmail me and use you against me if I did survive or didn't arrive on time,” Noah informed me.

I didn't know if I should believe him ,but I knew that this man just coldly killed my parents and I don't know what to do.

I know that my parents are not the best parents , the way I married my husband was because they were owing him a lot of money and Noah threatened my father and seeing that Noah would kill my father ,my father decided to marry me off to him that was why they saved.

I had always wanted to leave, it's not as if he treated me badly, but he controlled me to the point that everything that I did he would have to approve of. Well I don't even blame him since to him I was like his property he bought $5 million dollars.

That was how much my father owed him and all the accumulated interests, and after I got married to him it was all removed.

I sighed in relief when he started the car and drove off at high speed.

For a minute I thought he would leave me there and take Tracy with him, since I shot him but he didn't.

I looked at the place I shot him ,I saw a hole but no blood.

“Are you wearing a bulletproof jacket?” I asked him curiously because I wondered why I saw no blood.

Noah scoffed.

“Why you asking me do you want to shoot me in the head next time you do it ,maybe I should have left that gun with your fingerprints there so that they will say you the one who killed your parents,” he told me in a cold voice as his hands on the steering wheel tighten and I saw his knuckles turn white.

I gulped.

I think the best thing is not to say anything to him so that you will not kick me out of the car because there was nothing stopping him from doing that since I planned with my parents to have me and Tracy abducted ,dupe him of money, kill him and run away.

That was the plan but he killed my parents inside.

“The only reason why I am letting this go is because of our daughter and i understand our relationship was built on false grounds, but planning such an evil thing with your parents and trying to kill me was not something I expected from you,” Noah told me with a frown as he kept his eyes on the road.

“I know I am not the best husband ,but I have tried to change for you and even do things that I normally will not do for you,” he said in his low voice.

“I treated you as my wife instead of a property, but when I turned my back you decided to stab me in the back after how well I have treated you, maybe I should drop your off in the base of the rival gang myself ,so that you know how woman who are given as a payment of a loan are treated.” Noah concluded his words and I turned to him with my eyes widened in horror.

I shuddered at that thought.

“Please no, I beg you, It was a mistake it will never happen again,” I pleaded with him while rubbing my hands together hoping he would not do as he just said.

I have heard stories and seen with my eyes how women who their parents give them to loan sharks to repay their debts are treated, they become prostitutes and some become sextoy and a punching bag, it was so bad that I saw a lady with her face all swollen and bruises all over her body.

That was the type of neighbourhood that I lived in and after I got married to Noah, he took me out and took me to a nice neighbourhood.I know that I should be grateful to him that he has taken care of me, but sometimes he still hits me ,when I disobey him.

“Noah I…”

“That's enough Tracy pulled off her headset,” Noah said and I stopped.

I looked back to see Tracy who had her headset off.

“Baby what is it?” I asked Tracy and she pouted.

“I am hungry,” She said and I bit my lower lips.

“Baby I'm so sorry, I did not pack anything for us to eat ,when we get to a convenient store I will buy you something to eat,” I told her in a soft voice and I heard Noah exhale sharply.

“You were trying so hard to run away from me that you even forgot to pack up what my daughter will eat, you really must hate me,” Noah said and I bowed my head in shame.

I really don't know what came over me to do all these and trust my parents who sold me off to him.

Noah told me to open the briefcase and I did and it was filled with snacks, two water bottles and two hamburgers , he was not with any money.

Tracy ate the hamburger and was drinking water and Noah didn't make any other comment.

He tries his best to keep Tracy away from this.

“Eat,” he told me and I began to eat the second hamburger.

Noah’s car pulled into an apartment building and we got out with our belongings.

I asked him why we are here and not going home and he did not say anything to me ,so I followed closely behind him we got into the elevator and it came to a stop in a floor and then we got off the floor and headed to a door which he opened and we walked in and I noticed that all the decorations was the same as our old apartment.

“Your clothes ,Tracy's toys and clothes are in the rooms,” Noah told me.

I walked closer to him and he stepped away and led Tracy to her room and then led me to a room.

“You'll be sleeping here today,” he told me and handed over a key to me.

Noah began walking away.

“Are we not sleeping in the same room anymore?” I asked him and he stopped walking.

“Laurel please don't act that way , you hate me so much to the point that you would want to kill me, I think it's best you stay in that room, and give it a month for things to settle , if you are to leave, you are going nowhere with my daughter.” Noah told me plainly.

Noah walked into a room and closed the door and locked it.
