Ryan

I proceeded to buckle the twins into their car seat, all the while ignoring Julia completely. I frowned when I spotted a man some three cars away from where Julia was parked out of the corner of my eye.

He ducked behind the hood of a black Mercedes when he noticed I was looking his way. I turned away, pretending to focus my full attention on getting the kids situated when he rose from his hiding spot clutching a Nikon D5 camera to his person.

I realised he was a part of the paparazzi that had made it their life's goal to stalk Julia wherever and whenever she was out, but with me in the picture, now that would be one hell of a scoop.

I quickly shut the car door, hoping he hadn't already had the chance to take photos of the twins. I knew from experience that if there was one, the rest were sure to follow. They were akin to a pack of wolves ready to tear its prey into pieces any chance it gets.

When I turned around and saw Julia standing there with a frown on her face, I was ready t

  • Second Chance Christmas    A Sinister Encounter

JuliaI quickly picked up my phone, searching up the word, only to be directed to an exclusive strip club on the other side of town. My stalker asking to meet was probably the last thing I'd expected from him, but I knew I couldn't pass up the opportunity to find out his identity even when I knew damn well I could be walking directly into a trap.I realised that the parcel had arrived the day before at the office. Did that mean we were supposed to meet yesterday? God, I hoped that weren't the case.A small knock on my bedroom door had me frantically shoving both the card and the envelope under my bedding before the door opened.Lucien stood in the doorway scratching his eyes, his curly hair in disarray as it stood in different directions. I deduced he'd just gotten out of bed.”Come on in, baby,” I murmured, scooting to the edge of my bed with arms open. His little sock-clad feet shuffled into my room towards me.“Good morning, Mommy,” he muttered, burying his face in my chest as he l

  • Second Chance Christmas    A Threat in Disguise

JuliaI woke up to the sound of my phone's notification going off like crazy on my nightstand. I groaned in annoyance, burying my head into my pillow to drown out the noise. It was way too early for any of this, but it was as though the longer I stayed in bed ignoring my phone going off, the louder it got."I'm up, I'm up," I grumbled to no one in particular, sitting up straight in bed and sighing deeply with my eyes still tightly shut.I blindly reached for my phone on my nightstand, feeling around for it until my fingers grazed the sleek device. I grabbed it, only opening my eyes when I swiped it open. I blinked several times to get accustomed to the bright screen, squinting as I scrolled through the thousands of notifications that were flooding my screen by the second.I frowned, clicking on one article from a random blog, and my eyes went wide when I saw the headline picture. It was a photo of Ryan and me at the parking lot of the kid's preschool. Not just that, in the photo, he wa

  • Second Chance Christmas    A Taste of Familiarity

JuliaI waited by a corner for the twins to get changed out of their costumes while I watched the backstage crew go about their business putting everything in order after the recital.A notification ping on my phone made me look away from the flurry of activities around me. Reaching into my small purse, I pulled out my phone, swiping it open to see a text from Parker.I knew it was important because I'd instructed him to only contact me if it were extremely important and not to if it were something I could handle when I returned to the office. It was a text from Parker asking to call if I wasn't busy. I sighed, putting him on dial immediately before holding the phone up to my ear.“I'm sorry for disturbing you—“Tell me,” I cut off impatiently. I simply did not have the patience for him to hear him drone on and on all day long.“A parcel arrived at the office for you,” he said, although I could sense a bit of hesitance in his tone, which caused me to frown.“So you called me knowing d

JuliaThe twins excited squeals snapped me out of my reverie, and I blinked several times, realising I'd been ogling Ryan the moment he'd walked through those doors.“You came!” Olivia giggled, and Ryan chuckled, caressing her hair gently. “Of course I did; I wouldn't miss it for the world,” he murmured, smiling down at them brightly.“I think the show's about to begin; let's head on in,” he said, and they both nodded while he rose to his feet. His eyes met mine, and they darkened, turning into smoke as his gaze lingered on my form.As I swallowed thickly as he took slow steps towards me with the twins on either side of him. When he stopped just inches before me, my breath hitched in my throat. He exuded warmth, and his scent, oh, his scent had my insides doing flips. He smelt of sandalwood and a hint of spice that had me inhaling greedily to smell more of him.“You look absolutely radiant, love,” he murmured in a deep baritone that had the hair on the back of my neck standing on end

  • Second Chance Christmas    Making an Impression

RyanRyan Leaving the house after breakfast wasn't what I wanted, but I had to if I was going to win the game Julia was playing at. Parking my car in the parking lot of the five-story office building, I got out. Quickening my pace when I got to the front desk.I realised how so much had changed within the five years I'd been gone, leaving my law firm in the care of a professional manager. The receptionist didn't recognise me immediately as she looked up at me, her expression bored but polite.“Welcome to Ryan Thompson & Associates. What can I do for you, sir?” she said all in one breath.“I'm here to meet Attorney Damon Aurelio,” I responded, and she nodded, her red lipstick-covered lips set in a thin line.“Do you have an appointment?” she asked in an equally professional tone. “Well, not exactly,” I trailed off, tilting my head to the side with a sheepish smile.“I'm sorry, but you have to make an appointment, sir,” she clarified, and I nodded. “I know, but he's expecting me; you ca
