Chapter 2

Author: Mini Sol
Mitchell's expression remained unchanged. His tone dripped with sarcasm as he asked, "Is this your new tactic? Retreat to advance?"

"No, I'm serious."

Though Sophie had uttered the words in a moment of impulse, she didn't regret them.

Back when she had first found out that she was going to marry Mitchell, she had been overjoyed, thinking that she would spend every moment of her life with him.

But who could have imagined that in just three short years, she would be considering divorce?

Perhaps she shouldn't have harbored such fantasies from the start.

"Are you?" Mitchell's gaze swept over Sophie disdainfully, filled with mockery and stark disbelief.

"You willingly sacrificed your virginity to force me into marrying you. Now you're tired of it and want to be with someone else? Even if we divorce, I'll be the one who brings it up! You have no right!"

"Fine. I'll wait for you to bring it up."

Sophie slowly got up from the floor, adjusted her shirt, and headed out. As she reached the door, she couldn't help but turn back to look at Mitchell.

"Am I really not worthy of your trust?"

She knew he had been holding a grudge against her about that night. He believed that she had set him up to sleep with her, and when Gertrude had caught them in the act, he had been forced to marry her.

As a result, he had lost the woman he loved the most. Since then, he had harbored a deep hatred toward Sophie. But little did he know that she had her reasons.

"Trust? I trusted you before. But how did you repay my trust?" Mitchell exuded an ominous air, and his eyes were filled with chilling hostility.

A wave of bitterness washed over Sophie's heart. She parted her lips to say something.

He had once been everything to her.

She remembered that when she had first arrived at the Warner Residence at a very young age, everything had felt so strange and frightening.

Mitchell had been the first person to accept her.

He had grown up with her, and even though he always wore a cold expression, he celebrated her birthday, took her out to play, and protected her when she was bullied.

Because of him, she had experienced warmth for the first time in this world.

In her youth and admiration, Sophie had eventually fallen for him. She had been powerless to stop her feelings. In the end, she had betrayed his kindness.

"I..."

Sophie wanted to explain everything that had transpired back then, but she recalled the words that one person had said to her.

Her gaze dimmed, and all her explanations turned into feeble excuses. "Someday, you'll understand."

She actually wanted to ask him if he remembered what day it was. However, she quickly realized that he probably didn't.

It was their third wedding anniversary.

But for him, it was probably the anniversary of a disaster.

Sophie smiled bitterly, glanced at the cup of honey tea on the table, and couldn't resist saying, "Your throat isn't well. Don't forget to drink the honey tea."

With that, she left the guest room.

Meanwhile, Mitchell's face darkened.

After a long pause, he looked at the cup of honey tea with a hint of bitterness in his eyes. Nevertheless, he eventually drank it.

In the dead of night, Sophie suddenly felt her body being pushed down on the bed, as if something heavy was pressing on her.

It was heavy and hot, and there was an inexplicable sense of familiarity.

Sophie's eyes snapped open, only to meet Mitchell's bloodshot eyes.

Mitchell? What was he doing here?

"Sophie, how dare you do this to me again? Fine! Since you want it so much, I'll indulge you!"

Mitchell glared at her viciously. The veins bulged on his neck as he forcefully tore her clothes apart.
