Chapter 2

作者: Anonymous
It seemed like my compliance ultimately made my parents feel a bit guilty. They returned home that evening and presented me with a cello from my favorite brand.

It was something that had never happened before in my previous life.

In the days that followed, I went to school and went through the motions. I absorbed every piece of knowledge I learned until I understood it completely. When I got really tired, I'd just play my cello for a little while.

I could temporarily forget about the pain of being neglected in the midst of the melodious music. But even that small moment of peace was ripped away by Jane.

That day, despite never liking musical instruments, Jane suddenly decided she wanted to learn to play the cello.

She picked up the heavy instrument despite her frail constitution, intending to take it to her bedroom. However, she ended up dropping the cello on the stairs, smashing it to bits. She even scraped the skin off her hand in the process.

Jane looked up at me with panic in her innocent-looking eyes. "I didn't mean to, Yvonne. I'll fix your cello right away!"

I looked straight into her eyes, nodded, and said, "Alright."

Upon hearing my response, Jane immediately knelt on the floor and began gathering the broken pieces of the cello. The strings that had snapped out of the soundbox cut her tender hands.

When Mom saw the blood well up on her hands, she rushed over and pointed at me furiously. "Do you really have to go this far over a mere cello? Do you honestly think we would've bought you this stupid thing if Jane hadn't begged us to?

"You spend all day fussing over these inanimate objects and can't even spare a thought for Jane's health. No wonder nobody likes you, Yvonne!"

Mom's words pierce my heart like a knife, leaving behind a deep and agonizing wound.

It was true that I was an unlikable child to begin with. It turned out that even this cello was just a handout from Jane.

I lowered my eyes and said, "You don't have to bother fixing the cello. I suddenly don't like it anymore."

Jane, holding her injured fingers, cried weakly. "How can I leave it like this? I already said I was going to fix it for you, Yvonne."

She knelt on the floor, trying to continue piecing together the cello that had been smashed to bits for me.

The very next second, Dad slapped me hard across the face. "What the hell is your problem, Yvonne? Do you not know how to talk like a normal person? Jane is already upset because of what happened, and you're making it worse! We never should've brought that stupid cello home in the first place!"

I felt absolutely no pain from the slap, even though Dad put all his strength into it. I could only feel a stinging pressure around my eyes, as though tears were about to fall.

I looked at my parents, who were glaring at me like I was their worst enemy, then bowed sincerely to Jane. "I'm so sorry, Jane, but I honestly don't need you to fix it for me. It's all my fault. I won't ask for a cello again."

I would never ask for a cello again, nor would I ask for them to be my family. But I would absolutely never allow them to take the things that truly belonged to me again.

I uploaded every single video showing them breaking into the storage room to steal my painting on my social media."Hold on! Chase was there, too!""He's the one who unlocked the storage room. He's the thief all along!""How utterly shameless! How could they just steal Yvonne's work and then have the nerve to badmouth her?""How repulsive! They are a family of thieves! How can they treat their own daughter and sister like this? How do they even sleep at night?"Jane shook her head desperately as she watched the endless stream of comments flooding the live stream chat. She instantly broke down, yelling, "It's all my fault! I really did it all by myself. Chase and my parents had nothing to do with it!"Jane's pleading was useless, as the only thing awaiting her was a pair of handcuffs, courtesy of the police officers. My parents yelled at me just as they were about to be taken away by the police officers. "Damn it, Yvonne! Say something! How can you send your own sister to jail? Y

Even up until the moment of their arrest, Mom, Dad, Jane, and Chase still couldn't understand how things had ended up this way. They couldn't grasp how I, the one who had always endured their manipulation and mistreatment, had suddenly grown entirely beyond their control. They showed up with a massive entourage, ready to drag me through hell, only to be greeted by the police. "You must be Yvonne Chamberlain's family members and Chase Lister. Yvonne has filed a report stating that all of you stole her paintings and unlawfully seized control of her art exhibition. You are all required to come with us to the station to assist with the investigation." My parents looked at me in disbelief. Then, Mom quickly took out the psychiatric diagnosis report. "You want us to assist in the police investigation? You've got to be kidding me, right? You should take a look at this—Yvonne is mentally unstable. How can you take her word for anything?"Jane barked, "That's right! Yvonne is completely o

It was then that my phone rang, and when I picked it up, Mom's voice came through the speaker."Did you see what's happening online, Yvonne? There's a mob of clueless people attacking Jane. You need to record a video and post it right now to clear things up! "You have to tell everyone that you brought Jane along to that estate to paint those pieces and that you had nothing to do with it. You have to make it clear that Jane is the talented one in the family and that you're just a hack."Mom spoke as though her demands were perfectly reasonable. She wasn't even looking to make things right at this point. Instead, she was doing what she always did—making me the scapegoat. But I was no longer the helpless child they could bully and gaslight whenever they wanted. I replied flatly, "Dream on."I ended the call without hesitation and carefully saved the recording. I had been preparing for this moment ever since I was reborn. I had saved countless recordings and endless evidence on my ph

I left soon after. In the end, my art exhibition became an unprecedented success. Just like in my previous life, Jane took credit for my work and instantly transformed into a highly sought-after genius artist, fielding one interview after another. She was no longer facing expulsion from the university. Instead, they chose to honor her as an outstanding student. Before long, it became common knowledge that there was a brilliant younger sister and a worthless older sister in the Fine Arts department. Countless people praised Jane, and between her attractive looks and her curated image as Chase's loving girlfriend, she gained millions of followers on her social media in a matter of days. She was at the absolute peak of her popularity at that moment.I watched Jane's online popularity skyrocket, and a broad smile spread across my face. I wanted her to become famous; the more attention she got, the better. After all, one would always lose their footing right after they started fee

Chase's behavior that evening confirmed what I had already suspected. Mom, Dad, and Jane hadn't given up on their plan to hijack my paintings and art exhibition.I wasn't intimidated, though. From the moment I realized I'd been reborn, I had promised myself that I would never allow them to strip me of the things that were rightfully mine ever again. It wasn't long before the art exhibition commenced as planned. I transported all the paintings from the studio and hid them in a storage room close to the exhibition hall on the eve of the opening. My plan was to move the paintings out the next morning and set up the exhibition hall. Everything was proceeding in an orderly fashion according to plan at that point. After hauling the last painting inside, I locked the door and carefully slipped the key into my pocket before checking into a hotel nearby.I went there early the next morning, only to find that the storage room that had been full of my paintings the day before was completel

Chase had skipped coming to the studio to help with my art exhibition for two days in a row. This had never happened before. Normally, he couldn't wait to rush over and see me the second class ended. That evening, I had been working in the studio for a while when Chase suddenly appeared out of nowhere after his long absence. His eyes instantly welled up with tears the moment he saw me. "I knew you had a rough time growing up," he said, "but I didn't realize just how much you had to endure, Yvonne."Then, he hugged me and held my waist tightly, as if I were the most precious thing in the world. "I'll dote on you from now on, Yvonne."It was such a touching confession. If he hadn't broken my heart so completely in my previous life, I probably would've fallen head over heels for him. Instead, I felt nothing. I looked at him and asked the question that had been on my mind. "Did Jane tell you everything?"Chase nodded. "She did. You know, I only realized after spending time with her
