Shirley's POV
He chuckled, the sound both mocking and intimidating. “You won't,”
I blinked. “Excuse me?”
He cleared his throat. “You won't refuse because deep down you know you need my protection.” He stood up from the table and walked back to his seat. “You're all alone now. Your family and everyone you ever cared about betrayed you. Your whole life is a lie and you are angry. I can help you get revenge against them.”
I sucked in a breath, his words opening up the wounds that were beginning to heal. And he was right, I was alone and didn't have anyone.
“You can think about it but you don't have time. I do always get what I want and seeing as my little boy is convinced you're his mother, I will make sure it stays that way.”
I shivered and swallowed saliva. “I need to go and prepare for my day..” I whispered as I staggered to my feet.
“You're attending Yvonne Steel's birthday party.” He announced and I whipped around in shock.
Has he been stalking me or something?
“Adam will take you,” he was telling me not asking so I simply shrugged and walked out of the office.
I shut the door behind me and leaned against it, placing my hand against my chest where my racing heart was spiraling out of control.
Somehow my life was about to change and I couldn't ever decide what I wanted. Well I could but he'd just force me to do what he wanted in the end.
As much as I wanted protection from my evil family, getting entangled with the mafia wasn't something I wanted to do to myself.
And how am I sure he hadn't killed his ex-wife with his bare hand? Perhaps that room contained her bones alongside other women who he had killed….
“Miss Anderson!”
I screamed and jumped back in shock, my back hitting the door. I let out a howl of pain and reached behind to touch the spot when the door opened.
“What's going on here, Adam?” Jackson asked, his tone intimidating and I shivered at the ice in his voice.
“Uhn it wasn't his fault,” I blurted out before Adam could speak. “I was clumsy and hit my back against the door.”
Adam bowed his head but I thought I saw him whisper ‘thank you’ to me as he bent down.
Jackson didn't seem convinced. I pulled away and touched his arm. “I promise it was my fault.”
I winced when he touched me back feeling sore all over.
His frown deepened. “You're in no condition to attend a party,”
My heart rate picked up. “Actually I'm fine. A simple balm would do the trick.”
He narrowed his eyes and I looked away. “Fine. Adam, find her some balm for her injuries and make sure the car is ready.”
“Yes boss,” Adam grunted and Jackson led me away from there.
Knowing I didn't have much of a choice, I followed him to my room and thanked him when we got there.
“Adam will bring the balm and then when you're all set, he'll take you to the venue of the party.”
I nodded and walked into the room, shutting the door behind me. I leaned against the door ignoring the sting in my back.
I was never going to be free of Jackson Storm no matter how far I ran. I might as well take the deal after all with the protection of such a powerful mafia lord, no one could ever hurt me.
*** The next day.
I took a deep breath and walked into the event centre I had picked for Grandma Yvonne's birthday several weeks back when I had been planning it.
I concentrated on not tripping over in these heels, I wondered what Grandma's reaction to me would be.
Seeing as my parents had never really loved me, would she treat me the same way?
“Ugh, what are you doing here?” I heard Amelia's scornful voice as I stepped into the beautifully decorated hall. “Don't think because you helped plan this that you have an exclusive pass to be here.”
I ignored her and walked past her, marveling at the view. Even though I was part of the planning committee, walking in and viewing the place from a guest's eyes, it was breathtaking.
“How dare you try to ignore me?” Amelia shrieked as she pulled my hair from behind. I yelped and struggled against her.
“What are you doing? Get off!” I screamed and tried to push her away but her grip on my hair was ironclad.
Her nails were digging into my scalp and if I wasn't careful, she could uproot a few strands from the roots.
“What are you doing here?” Felix asked as he joined us.
Amelia's grip on my hair loosened and I took the opportunity to step away from her.
“You're crazy,” I told her, huffing as I tried to touch up my look.
She rolled her eyes and went to Felix. “Why is she here? She's going to ruin the event with her bad luck.”
I scoffed and crossed my arms over my chest. “Don't be ridiculous. Grandma Yvonne loves me and asked that I be here today. I also helped plan this party so if you have a problem then take it up with her.”
Amelia scoffed and looked at Felix with pouty lips. “Surely it can't be that easy for anyone to walk in here? I want her gone.”
I shook my head at her behaviour and started walking inside.
“Not so fast.” Felix sneered as he grabbed my arm. “You're not invited so just leave,”
“Let go of her arm if you would still like to keep yours, nephew,” a familiar voice said and I whipped around to see my husband-to-be striding towards us.
My eyes widened. What was he doing here? I heard footsteps behind me and turned to see Grandma walking towards us.
“Oh Shirley dear, you're here.” Grandma Yvonne sent me a polite smile then turned to Jackson. She froze before the biggest smile took over her face. “Jackson? Is that you?”
“Hello mother,” he whispered with a smile of his own. “Now can someone explain why my fiancé is being harassed like this?”
Mother? Nephew?
Third Person's POV Shirley felt like she was hallucinating or suffering from a hearing problem. “Uncle Jackson?” Felix muttered as he let go of my hand. “What are you doing here?” Jackson ignored him and turned to the woman who was standing there, looking utterly confused. “Darling, would you like to retouch your makeup in the car?” Shirley stammered. “I…there's…sure.” She eventually gave in and allowed him to lead her to the car. Amelia pinched Felix's hand and glared at Shirley's back, envy trimming in her eyes. “How did she even know him? Why would he want someone as plain as her?” Felix was too stunned to pick up on the jealousy in her voice. “I don't know. What is he even doing here?” He turned to ask his grandmother but found that she had walked off. He sighed and patted Amelia's arm. “They are crazy,” Felix said and walked away, Amelia followed behind but paused for a moment.Amelia bit her lip and stared at the luxury car parked in the driveway. She smirked as an evil p
Shirley’s povThe next morning. I woke up very early in the morning and sat up on the bed while yawning with my hand covering my mouth. I suddenly had a flashback to what happened last night. My heart started beating faster than normal then I placed my hand on my chest. “I can’t believe he actually did that yesterday.” I muttered and placed my hand on my head feeling conflicted. The more I tried not to think about it the more it lingered in my mind. I heaved a sigh of worry, there were so many things to consider, which is why I was living more in accepting then rejecting it. Seeing how arrogant Amelia has become because she succeeded in getting Felix. I thought life would be very difficult for me if I don’t accept Jackson, they’re going to keep rubbing it in my face that they were able to hurt me. But considering what he does, Jackson is a dangerous Mafia, my life could be in danger living with him. I was getting frustrated and tired thinking about everything, I fell back on the b
Third person povJackson was pissed to hear the kind of question Felix asked him. He turned to look at Felix and smirked. “Do I look like a child that doesn’t know what he’s doing?” Jackson asked. His tone was so scary that even Shirley shivered a little. Felix quickly turned his straight face into a smile. “Uncle, I didn’t mean it that way, I was only wondering why you decided to rush the proposal, you don’t even know the kind of woman she is.” Shirley was fuming while listening to what Felix was saying to his uncle, she knew Jackson isn’t the type to be easily manipulated but words like that can put a seed of doubt in his mind, the only good thing is that the marriage isn’t real. “Felix can you stop!” Shirley yelled at the top of her voice, getting the immediate attention of everyone. Amelia smirked sheepishly the moment she heard Shirley. “Are you about to show everyone the real you?” Amelia asked. “What? Haven’t you two done enough? you are married now, can you stay out of my
Shirley’s povI still can’t wrap my head around the reality that I would be getting married to Jackson, so many things were going on at the same time and there’s Dylan too, whom I need to consider before doing anything because of how much he likes me. I patted his head softly as he was laying beside me because he refused to sleep in his room last night. He wanted to spend time with me here. Today is the wedding and I am not even sure I’m taking the right step. I gently got up from the bed and headed out of the room, by the time I got to the sitting room, it almost looked like a completely different place. How were they able to set up immediately? The sitting room was used as the hall for the wedding tonight. Yvonne wants it to be just a small gathering of people. She didn’t want a crowd so she chose to use the house and there’s no one that can object to her decision. I rushed back to my room, it’s really happening. I’m really getting married today. I rushed into the bathroom to t
Shirley povBefore I could ask him any question he placed his lips on mine, I couldn’t resist it because it’s not just what the crowd wants, it’s also what I want. We kissed passionately and almost forgot it’s our wedding. “This can continue in the room later.” The wedding host announced and there was laughter from the crowd as we both stopped. I was so shy that I couldn’t look him in the eyes after the hot kiss we shared. I raised my head shyly to look at the crowd and they were still smiling and having little side talks. The only person that her eyes were fixed towards my direction was none other than my sister, or rather my parents' biological daughter and her husband. He angrily stood up and walked away, looking like he was affected by the hot kiss. Our eyes met and she smirked before looking away while shaking her glass of wine in a stirring form. I knew she wasn’t happy for me and good thing she’s not pretending to be. It was time to greet the guests. It was supposed to be a l
Shirley povI was still very mad at him for leaving me like that at the party after he promised he was going to protect me from them no matter what the problem might be. I had to face my mom and my sister that way and also the other family members that are not in support of the both of us being together. When I got to the room I sat on the bed tiredly, I didn’t know what to do and I didn’t want to be there with them because I knew very well that they are not genuinely happy for me. While I was sitting alone in the room someone walked in. “Mom, are you not happy?” Dylan asked the moment he walked into the room. I had to put on a fake smile the moment he asked the question.“What are you talking about?” I asked, pretending not to understand what he was talking about. Dylan sat beside me and rested his head on my shoulder. Judging from the way he was behaving I could already tell that my actions were too obvious and his father might think I am not doing my own part of the bargain properl
Writer’s pov After the party everyone had already gone back to their houses. Shirley was not over what happened earlier at the house seeing her precious aunt being just like her mom and dad got her very disappointed. She somehow knew what the situation would be. She was only in denial because at the end of the day they are families.“I just want to wake up from this horrible nightmare.” Shirley muttered to herself as she laid on the bed. The moment she laid on her bed Jackson walked into the room. “What are you doing here?” Shirley asked Jackson, still a little too startled to get her composure.“Why would you even ask me such a question?” Jackson asked as he was removing his shirt. Shirley covered her eyes when she saw him shirtless. “Can you leave already!” She asked at the top of her voice. Jackson was puzzled by her reaction because he was not expecting her to react the way she was reacting.“What are you talking about?” Jackson asked her as he was wondering why she was behaving
Shirley povThe next morning I woke up and he was gone. I couldn’t believe my eyes. Why is he gone so early in the morning? I stood up from the bed and headed out of the room so that I could walk down the stairs and get myself a bottle of water. While I was walking downstairs I sighted Amelia walking upstairs. I rolled my eyes displeased. “What a bad way to start my morning.” I muttered to myself and heaved a sigh. It's so uncomfortable living with someone you don’t like because why do I suddenly feel like I’m suffocating. “You really don’t know when to give up right?” I stopped on my tracks the moment I heard what she said. I turned back to look at her and smirked. “Are you really dumb or you are just pretending to be?” I asked angrily because I knew very well that I’m the one that’s supposed to be upset and not her. “You think because you are married to his uncle you have the right to speak to me just the way you like?” Amelia asked. I couldn’t hold in the laughter after hearing w
Writer's pov“So you actually think that everyday of my life I live a happy and perfect life? Do you know how tough it was trying to please them every single time and my effort was thrown away? Do you even know how sad it is watching the people that you call your biological parents treat a stranger better than the way they treat you? Well then I wasn't smart enough to understand that you were their biological daughter but what I know is that they always treated you better than me. I had to do everything to please them but they never were pleased with whatever I did to make them proud. They always commended even your little efforts but they never commend my hard work because they believe that I wasn't their biological daughter. So what happiness are you talking about? What I always wanted was what you got easily but I didn't try to forcefully take anything away from you, I knew that in the end I can't have it all.” Tears was welling down her eyes as she was talking because she had to
Writer's povJackson was too busy working that he wasn't able to see her message, he wasn't even with his phone because he had something serious to attend to. The same issue that made him moody the other day when he got home, he decided to take care of it this time around at work so that he doesn't allow Shirley suffer from the stress he's going through at work. While he was doing that he couldn't get Shirley off his head, he was wondering why she is always so happy even though she might be going through the most.“Boss, you are…” One of Jackson's staff was shocked to see Jackson smiling for the first time since he started working in the company. Jackson noticed and immediately changed his facial expression. Jackson hates it so much whenever they see him smiling because he thinks that is a weakness but after leaving with Shirley for a while now he got to realize that smiling isn't any sign of weakness, it is even more sign of strength when you're going through the most and you find y
Writer's povBefore Shirley made the phone call she was hoping that they are going to listen to her and accept what she says because this is the only alternative she has to help the little way she can, she knows the kind of person sharon is and how pestering sharon can be but she was hoping that this time they try to reason from her own perspective too and see reasons why she cannot give her blood.Amelia was totally against the idea because it's only going to ruin her plan and she was scared that her parents might accept the idea from Shirley.“Okay.” Amelia opened her eyes wider than normal the moment she realized that her mother had already accepted the idea that Shirley brought.Just when she was close to achieving her biggest dream which is killing Shirley it had to end this way, Amelia was so upset that she wanted to get up from the bed and leave but it will only ruin her chances even more, all she has to do right now is think of a way to end this blood topic and find another th
Writer's povAmelia was very happy to hear what her mom and dad said. She has been waiting for the moment when both of them will decide to take it by force. Obviously she is not willing to give her blood no matter how much they try to beg.“Mom, dad, I really do not think that is a good idea because you know very well that she is only trying to act stubborn, with time she will finally be able to submit to us and give us whatever it is that we want.” Amelia said to her mom and dad trying to pretend to be a good person, Sharon was not buying what Amelia was saying because she felt time was not on their side and anything can happen. With the way the nurses were looking it seemed like everything had gotten even worse, and she guessed they couldn't see the truth which is why they kept saying it will be better if the doctor speaks to them by himself. “Amelia, as much as I am trying to make peace between myself and Shirley, I am still going to do whatever it takes to make sure that my daugh
Writer's povAmelia realises that it’s already getting late and soon they would find out that she is lying. She was hoping that blood transfer would be done before the truth comes out, but right now she is making everything hard because both parents already agreed so she's wondering why Shirley hasn't agreed to give her the blood that She wants. Amelia was pacing around the room looking very worried because things weren't going well at all. She was hoping that her father's visit to Shirley's house would make things easier for them. Amelia snapped out of her thoughts and realized that her position is risky and it will be easy for them to find out that she is healthy if they find her pacing around the room. “I'm not going to let her ruin what I worked hard to plan, I'm not going to let her destroy my work. “Amelia said to herself as she sat on the bed thinking about the next plan. She realized it's better to pester her parents even more, because it’s only when she disturbed them ver
Shirley povI was shocked to see Jackson back home earlier than planned. When he returned he didn't look exactly happy which was a little worrying to me, I hate seeing Jackson like this, I was wondering why he looked really upset but then again it might be business that is bothering him.“Hey, are you okay?” I asked him the moment he walked into the house. I could tell from the look on his face that there was something wrong but I didn't want to pressure him too much, “I'm good.” Jackson said to me without hesitating, I could tell from the way he was behaving when he first got back but he wouldn't tell me what is bothering him.I didn't bother disturbing him anymore. I just took the little boy upstairs so that both of us can give Jackson some time alone to think. I couldn't stop worrying about him but I just had to give him some moments to clear his head and I am sure he's going to feel better in some minutes. It's not like he’s going to be moody the whole day.*******After spending
Writer's povShirley couldn't stop having a lot of flashbacks about everything that has happened in the past, this room is the room that contains everything from my past so it was totally hard for her to run away from it.She remembered when they were five which is the first day that they met, both of them were complete introverts, they hardly get along with strangers which is why they were able to connect very well when they were young and they promised each other that whenever they need help they would always be there for each other. Even though so much has happened and that strong friendship that they used to have has suddenly turned into hatred for each other Shirley still couldn't overlook the promise she made to Amelia. Both of them knew that Amelia was always the sick one so Shirley promise that even if it has to be her life she will do everything to make sure that nothing happens to Amelia, this is a promise she made to her when they were young so she felt maybe right now is
Writer's povThey both headed to the other side of the house where Amelia was sure that no one would be able to eavesdrop on their conversation.“I'm really grateful to you and Grandma for making out time to be here even if it's already late. I never imagined that you would come here the moment you hear that I was in such situation, I didn't know you will take it seriously which is why I did not tell you that both of us have been having series of misunderstanding so I just thought she might even think I'm doing you a favor by having such illness.”“Well you are.” Felix said in his mind and let out a smile so that it would look like he was smiling because of what she was saying. Felix hated it so much that he had to be in the same space with her, Felix couldn't believe he had to pretend like he was cool with the whole nonsense that she's saying, she kept beating around the bush which was very frustrating to him, he was wondering why she cannot complete a simple sentence so that they ca
Writer's povAmelia was not really happy to see Felix in the house at the wrong time, she did not tell him anything about the sickness as she realized he didn't have to know about it because it's not like it was real, telling so many people about it might only risk her opportunity of hiding the truth.“What are you doing here?” Amelia asked him angrily because he's not supposed to know about it.“I am here because I received a call from someone else telling me that my wife has a deadly illness and that she has only a few days to live and I have to be here to take care of her. Why didn't you tell me anything?” He asked her angrily.“Why should I tell you anything? You have never believed anything I say to you so why do I expect you to trust me this time around? I had to keep the truth to myself and find a solution to it immediately because I do not want to die now.” She was so upset while she was talking. Amelia hated it so much that she couldn't have control of the opportunity to hold
