 what's good for her. Elaine tried to explain things to her mother but Amelia didn't want to listen, then she dropped the statement to them, "I will never approve of your marriage should you want to get married because no daughter of mine will marry a complete nobody."

She stormed out of the house then in a fit of anger. Well, let's just say Amelia was not the only one that thought like that. Almost the whole town did and the older ones blamed Tom for misleading their little Elaine. And they went back to seeing him as an outsider, a stranger amongst them.

Elaine was affected by that but Tom wasn't. He doesn't have much long to stay there anywhere. Lucy and Ben supported their love and gave no shit about what the town says. Ben still goes everywhere with Tom and Lucy still sees him like her son. The two couples weren't at the birthday/engagement party and they were glad they weren't, if not, they feared what they might have said when Jasper was proposing.
