Chapter 8 Don't Come Home

Shona was startled and jumped up from the ground. "Who are you? What are you doing?"

Only then did Laura notice Chris, who was walking towards the store.

Chris walked up to Laura and noticed the red swollen mark on her face. His eyes darkened as he asked, "She did that?"

Although Chris didn't make things clear, Laura still knew who he was referring to.

On the way to the store, Assistant Jacobs had already told Chris what happened. The person causing trouble seemed to be his mother-in-law.

When Chris turned to look at Shona, Shona was also sizing him up and down. When she saw Chris's face, her eyes lit up.

"You're the man who married my daughter?"

Last time, when Laura showed Shona her marriage certificate, Shona saw what Chris looked like.

Chris's looks would be the kind that one would remember after only taking one glance.

However, Chris had a straight face and was emitting a cold aura. It was obvious that he didn't want to talk to Shona.

"Throw her out of the store and don't allow her to come anywhere near the Jacobs Group in the future!" Chris said softly but domineeringly.

The bodyguards nodded and began dragging Shona out of the convenience store.

Shona began to panic and then shouted, "Do you know who I am? I'm Laura's mother. This means that I'm your mother-in-law. How dare you treat me like this? Let me go!"

Shona was infuriated. At first, the bodyguards didn't know who Shona was, but when they heard that she was Chris's mother-in-law, they subconsciously loosened their grip.

This allowed Shona to break free. "Laura Walker, how dare you be so unfilial? Now that you're married, you actually dare to tell your husband to treat your mother so badly?"

Laura didn't want to drag Chris into all of this. She took a deep breath and looked at the guards not so far away.

She knew that the bodyguards belonged to the Jacobs Group. They were right next to the entrance of the Jacobs Group as well. If Shona did anything or said anything, it would probably cause trouble for the Jacobs Group.

Realizing what Laura was thinking about from the look in her eyes, Chris nodded at the bodyguards and the bodyguards backed away.

Shona saw what Chris did and rolled her eyes. Her tone suddenly changed and walked up to Laura with a smile on her face. "Laura, what does your husband do?"

She was surprised that Chris could order so many people around.

Laura looked at Shona and knew what she was thinking.

"He works at the Security Department of the Jacobs Group." Laura decided not to reveal Chris's real identity.

She knew that Shona was a snob. If Shona found out that Chris was the CEO's assistant of the Jacobs Group, Shona would definitely make a lot of requests.

Shona's expectations were immediately let down after hearing Laura's words. She felt that Chris was just a guard who wore smart clothes.

She opened her mouth and was about to cause Laura trouble again, but that was when she saw Chris standing in between them.

"If you keep on causing trouble and disturb the order around here, I'll put you behind bars." Chris's face was dark and cold. It was obvious that he had run out of patience.

"You..." Shona was so angry that she didn't know what to say, but she was still quite scared of being put behind bars. In the end, she glared at Laura. "Just you wait. If you think you're fine now, then don't ever come home!"

As soon as she said those words, Shona turned on her heels and left.

Laura breathed a sigh of relief inwardly, but her heart then began to ache more than ever.

She had convinced herself not to care about Shona's attitude, but Shona's doings would still make her feel very uncomfortable every single time.

Chris signaled the bodyguards to leave. He turned and looked at Laura's face before heading towards the entrance of the store.

He took a bottle of water from the fridge and placed it lightly on Laura's face.

Laura took the bottle and accidentally touched Chris's hand, but she didn't notice. "Thank you."

Chris took his hand back and placed it in his pocket. He squeezed the pulp of his fingers and said, "In the future, if anyone causes any trouble, you can always give me a call." After a short pause, he added, "Such actions will affect the normal operation of our company."
