Airport Drama

Linda's POV

Mitch stared at me with a look of sympathy. “I’m so sorry,” he said in a soft tone.

And I knew exactly what he was apologizing for. I think everyone in the plane knew that.

Because of my finding out that my husband had been cheating on me.

“It’s alright, it is what it is,” I replied, shrugging as if it didn’t feel like my heart was being torn into a thousand million pieces.

“It’s okay to feel, you know? When we were together, you used to always suppress your emotions, pretending that you were superhuman, and that’s not healthy for you.” He flashed me a warm smile.

I furrowed my eyebrows and scoffed lightly. I did not expect him to say that to me though.

He was not someone who usually said deep things.

“It’s not suppressing emotions that I do, I just don’t like dealing with very heavy emotions at certain times. I'd rather keep them for later.” I shrugged as if I just talked about something very common.

Mitch was about to say something but then the flight attendant that had helped me brought us our food and drinks.

“He’s asking to see you, do you want that?” She asked me as she handed me the cola that I chose.

“Who?” I asked, confused for just a second, but then it clicked in my mind. She was talking about Chris.

As if she saw the look of realization on my face, she nodded. “Should I allow him?”

I glanced at Mitch, silently asking him for advice but it seemed like he did not want to be caught up in my drama so he just stared right back.

But…what did I want? What did I really want? Did I want to see him?

My mind immediately played a made-up scene of Chris and Meghan in bed together, kissing and tearing up each other’s clothes, causing my heart to drop.

More tears pricked my eyes and I sniffled as I tried to collect myself. “No. He should stay away from me.”

The attendant nodded and flashed me a small sad smile before leaving.

The rest of the flight was like torture. Knowing I was in the same space as my husband who had cheated on me tore me.

And having to sit next to my ex who was currently engaged to my brother woke up some weird feelings too.

It was hell for me and I just wanted the flight to be over.

Luckily, the plane started to descend after a couple of hours.

Everyone was in their seats with their seatbelts fastened. A baby was crying loudly but the sound of the plane engines drowned it a bit.

When we landed, the aircraft shook as it made contact with the road. Soon, we came to a stop and the sound of the seatbelts being taken off rang.

Everyone was up on their feet, trying to grab their luggage so they could leave.

“Um…Linda, he’s coming,” Mitch said to me, and I looked in the direction he was looking.

I saw Chris walking in my way. My heart skipped a beat and I hurriedly tried to grab my suitcase from up.

“Do you want me to help?” Mitch asked, hope-filled in his eyes.

“Yes, please. I really don’t want him close to me right now,” I replied, breathing out a sigh.

“Linda, stop this. We need to talk,” Chris was almost close to me, but my ex stepped in the way.

“No, no, no,” Mitch said as he stepped between the guy and me. “Look here, buddy, she does not want to talk. At least not right now.”

“This is none of your business,” Chris replied without missing a beat. “Now get out of my way so I can talk with my wife, you queer,” he spat the words out.

Mitch was triggered immediately, and instead of processing what Chris had said, he swung his fist straight into the jaw of the guy.

Chris doubled back and almost fell.

My jaw dropped and I tried to get Mitch to stop. “It’s alright, please, it’s alright,”

I begged him as I pulled him back.

Chris released a series of homosexual slurs as he tried to attack my ex but a few people held him back.

I just knew that the people on this flight were either very entertained by our shenanigans or they were very bothered and sick of us.

“Break it up!” A security guard spoke authoritatively. “I said break it up!” He raised his voice when he saw that Chris still wanted to attack Mitch.

I felt embarrassed, to be honest. I really did not like it when I was the center of attention.

And since I boarded this plane and found out about my husband cheating on me, I had not been acting like my usual self.

I had been way too emotional and impulsive.

“I’m so sorry, officer,” I apologized to the man.

“It’s okay, ma’am. But I would have to ask all of you to step out of the aircraft right now.”

I nodded. It was understandable. Mitch and I walked next to each other as we passed not too far from Chris.

He was glaring at my ex, and if eyes could kill, Mitch would have dropped dead right on the spot.

“Don’t worry, with that punch, he would for sure stay the hell away from us,” he said to me, and I nodded.

I was actually scared for him. He had no idea what Chris was like. The guy was not the kind of person that would forgive so easily.

He was the kind of guy that did an eye for an eye. And I knew for sure that he was not going to let Mitch punch him in front of everyone's slide.

“I think that’s our gate.” I pointed to gate number six. “I’m sorry, I mean, my gate. I’m going to Iowa, I don’t know where you’re going.”

“Oh, what a coincidence, I’m heading down there too.” He chuckled, walking by my side as I headed for the gate.

“Really?”

“Yeah, I’m supposed to be there for a conference and will be staying in the Grand Hotel until it’s over.”

My interest piqued, that was the same hotel that I was supposed to work at as a maid.
