MasukCHAPTER 3
ANGIE’s POV
I walked down the street, my body feeling weak and heavy. I felt as though I was losing my mind as I trudged toward home. I couldn't even afford to hail a taxi because I didn't have enough money left in my wallet, so I decided to walk since it wasn’t that far.Passersby stared at me, likely because they could see me crying. I couldn't stop the tears from falling every time memories of Mark flashed through my mind. I wasn't prepared for this. I never imagined my boyfriend could betray me like this. He was my first love, my first boyfriend—but now, he was also the first person to break me and cause me such immense pain. I couldn't control my emotions; the hurt was simply too deep.
I lost track of how many tears I shed, but no matter how much I cried, the weight in my chest wouldn't lift. It still felt heavy and agonizing.
"Miss, watch where you're going! If you want to end your life, don't drag us into your problems!" a jeepney driver yelled at the top of his lungs. His booming voice snapped me back to reality. I quickly wiped the tears from my cheeks, realizing I was causing a traffic jam. Drivers were honking incessantly because I was standing right in the middle of the road, blocking their path.
Overwhelmed with shame, I immediately apologized. But in my haste to get out of the way, a car clipped me, sending me sprawling onto the pavement. The impact was violent, and I blacked out instantly.
I thought that would be my last day. But I was wrong. I woke up. When I finally opened my eyes, I was no longer on the street. I was inside a beautiful house—no, a mansion. The place was vast, elegant, and designed with exquisite detail in every corner.
"O-ouch..." I groaned, feeling a sharp sting in my head.
"Don't move just yet. The doctor I called to treat you said that you need to rest and regain your strength," a deep, resonant voice said. It sounded like an older man—definitely not someone in his twenties. He sounded like he was in his late forties.
I couldn't see his face yet because it was obscured by the newspaper he was reading. He was sitting on a large sofa nearby.
"Where... where am I?" I stammered. I didn't know how to talk to him. I felt like he was angry with me for interrupting his work. He was wearing a sharp black suit, the kind worn by powerful businessmen.
"You are inside my house," he answered curtly, slowly lowering his newspaper.
I nearly fell off the bed when I realized who I was talking to. I wasn't wrong about his age—this man was Mark’s father. I recognized him instantly; I had seen him many times in Mark’s photo albums.
Up close, his presence was staggering. He didn't look his age at all. If I didn't know he was Mark’s father, I wouldn't have guessed he was older. He had a powerful, athletic build, as if he spent a lot of time at the gym. While his aura was mature, his face remained strikingly handsome. It felt like a bucket of cold water had been poured over me. I couldn't move my hands, and I couldn't even close my mouth in shock at this unexpected meeting with my boyfriend’s father.
"My meeting today with Mr. Xiao was canceled because of this incident. I brought you here to be treated because I didn't want the public to know I hit someone on the road—it would tarnish my reputation. So, I brought you here, Miss... what is your name?" he asked.
I couldn't answer immediately. I had no idea how to speak to him. It was incredibly awkward, especially since his son was the reason I had been so distracted in the first place.
"Anyway, I won't waste your time. I only waited for you to wake up so we could settle this. Once you feel better, you can go home. But if not, you may stay here until you've recovered. And of course, I will provide money for your medication to ensure you heal quickly," he said, clearly wanting to keep the conversation brief.
He held out a small envelope that undoubtedly contained money. I hesitated, unsure of whether to take it. I took a deep breath, gathering every ounce of strength I had before speaking.
"I'm okay, Sir... I don't need the money. I’m sorry for the trouble I caused you. I just wasn't feeling well earlier, which is why I got hit. It was really my fault. You don't need to feel guilty about it," I said, taking full responsibility for the accident.
I didn't want to be indebted to him. I didn't want him to have anything to hold against me in the future.
In truth, he had no idea who I was. It wasn't surprising; in the year I had been with Mark, he had never introduced me to his father. Perhaps he wasn't proud of me. Or perhaps I didn't fit his family's standards. I wasn't exactly a "sexy" woman he could brag about, which was likely why he kept me hidden from his parents.
Mark’s father locked eyes with me. He looked worried, and a hint of doubt flickered in his gaze, as if he wasn't convinced by my answer.
"Just accept the money, Miss... I'm not used to being turned down, especially when someone is in your condition," he insisted.
"I'm not asking for money, Sir. It’s enough that you were kind enough to treat me despite my carelessness earlier. So, thank you, Sir," I replied with a small smile.
As I tried to get up, a sudden wave of dizziness hit me, causing me to lose my balance. Instinctively, I reached out and ended up leaning against him, my arms wrapping around his waist for support. My heart began to race like it was in a high-speed pursuit.
"See? You're not totally fine, Miss. Don't force yourself if your body isn't ready. Rest so you can regain your strength," he said calmly.
I immediately let go and stepped back.
"I'll just rest at home. I don't want to stay here," I decided.
I didn't want to linger in this mansion. I was terrified of running into Mark. I wasn't ready to face him after the way he had betrayed me.
"You're very stubborn," he said seriously, though he eventually gave in. "Fine. For your peace of mind, I will drive you home myself."
"But—"
"I insist. Stop giving me reasons to argue," he said, cutting me off.
I couldn't finish my sentence. My boyfriend’s father was incredibly bossy. His aura and the way he spoke made it impossible to say no.
CHAPTER 69: Unhealed WoundsMARK'S POV"Damn it."That was the only word running through my head when I saw my father inside the restaurant I spent seven years building.I am now a professional chef. I continued my studies just to reach this dream. Eventually, I decided to open my own restaurant, and I didn't expect it to become so popular. My restaurant became famous, and many people said my food was delicious and unique. I worked extremely hard to prove to my father that I could stand on my own two feet.I didn't expect to meet him under these circumstances. The bastard was finally back in the country, and he was even with his rumored model fiancée.I couldn't believe how quickly he replaced Angie. Damn it! It was so easy for him to replace her, even though he left her with a child.Yes, I knew my father had a child with Angie. After he left the country, I never took my eyes off her. I kept watching over the mother and
CHAPTER 68: SHADOWS OF THE PASTMR. ARTHUR’s POV:"I’ve been waiting for you for so long, babe. You told me we’d have dinner together. What took you so long?" Cindy said with her legs crossed and her lips pouting. She was clearly impatient from waiting for me.It was already eight in the evening when I returned to the mansion. I couldn't stop thinking about the revelations Angie told me about our child.I didn't want to believe her anymore because I was sick of her past lies. There was almost no reason left for me to trust that woman.Besides, I’m getting married. So I shouldn't let Angie affect me anymore. I knew she was only telling me those things to get close to me again. It was obvious to me that she was still obsessed with me, to the point of making up a story about us having a child."I'm sorry, babe. I just had to check a lot of documents, that's why I was delayed at the company. Anyway, it's not too la
CHAPTER 67: A NEW BEGINNINGANGIE’s POV:"Are you serious about what you’re saying, Mr. Matthew? Maybe you’re just acting on impulse. The position you’re offering me is no joke. Besides, I don't know anything about running a business. I’m just a humble laundry worker and vendor," I said after he offered me his position.Mr. Matthew was a wealthy businessman. He owned many resorts in Siargao—almost all of them were registered under his name. So, the job offer was serious.Being a CEO is not simple or easy. It is a position that is difficult to reach. I knew that many people dreamed of reaching that level. But me? I never aspired to it because I knew my limitations.I only came to the hospital because the doctor, with whom I had left my contact number, called me. I had asked the doctor to contact me as soon as Sir Matthew regained consciousness. So when I heard the news that he had woken up, I rushed over de
Chapter 66: An Unexpected OfferSIR MATTHEW'S POV:Almost everything around me was white when I opened my eyes.I also saw an IV tube, which made me realize that I was in a hospital at that moment.I didn't know what happened to me. And I also didn't know how I ended up here.My body was still weak. My head also hurt because of dizziness. But I forced myself to call a doctor so someone would notice that I was already awake. Before long, a nurse entered the room, and she was the one who called the doctor.Wonder mixed with surprise as they entered the room and saw that I was awake."It's a miracle that you're awake now, Mr. Matthew. We really thought it would take a long time for you to wake up," the doctor said in disbelief while telling me the good news."Why, Doc? What happened to me?" I asked.I couldn't remember anything else. All I knew was that I went here to Manila to attend a meeting with a business partner. After that, I left the building to visit my doctor here in Manila. I
Chapter 65: Heartbreak and Hard TruthsANGIE'S POV:"Child, are you okay?" I immediately asked Iza when I returned to her school. She was waiting by the gate, and it looked like she had just finished crying because her eyes were visibly red."I'm fine, Mama. I just cried earlier because my classmates were picking on me. They were bullying me, Mama. But I'm okay now because an old man defended me," she explained as she told me what happened.Curiosity grew inside me after learning what occurred.Did I hear that right? Someone helped her?"Who was the old man who defended you? Do you know him, my child?" I asked her.My heart beat faster when she used the words "old man." I was thinking that maybe the person Iza mentioned was Arthur. Her father is an older man, but that is something I haven't been able to tell her yet."Mama, he's the man who gave me money last night—the one I sold sampaguita to. It was him, Mama! It's so nice because he keeps seeing me. This is the second time we met u
Chapter 64: An Unexpected ConnectionARTHUR's POV:"Manang, do you have any news about Mark yet?" I asked Manang, whose hair had turned almost entirely white. In the seven years that passed, Manang stayed at the mansion. Because of that, she was no longer just a housemaid here. I entrusted this mansion to her while I was away. That was how much trust I gave her. And because of her long years of dedicated service to me, I also gave her a house and lot of her own. I am not stingy when it comes to money. As long as a person is loyal to me, I will never withhold anything from them."I still don't have any news about him, Sir. And up until now, he hasn't returned here. But Sir, about Ma'am Angie—" Just as Manang was about to mention her concern regarding Angie, I glared at her.Cindy was standing right behind me, busy tinkering with her phone. But when she heard the woman's name, she paused immediately and did not hesitate to ask."Ma'am Angie? Who is Angie?" she asked, full of curiosity.
CHAPTER 5:ANGIE’S POVWhen I returned home, my mother was overflowing with worry. Any mother would react this way seeing her daughter—who had left the house perfectly fine—returning in such a battered state."Goodness, Angeline! What happened to you? Who did this? And wait, where is your boyfriend
CHAPTER 4ANGIE’s POVMark’s father returned to the room pushing a wheelchair. He was clearly serious about his promise to drive me home himself.I watched in silence as he unfolded the wheelchair. I realized he intended to use it so he wouldn't have any trouble moving me downstairs. Once the wheel
CHAPTER 2ANGIE’s POVI spent the next three hours burying myself in work, trying to drown out Lesly’s accusations against my boyfriend. Her words were still ringing in my ears, and I couldn't stop overthinking—especially since Mark still hadn't reached out to me.It’s a difficult situation to be i
CHAPTER 1ANGIE's POV;"You’re getting quite fat, aren’t you, Angie? Your body has changed so much. Look at those rolls—they're practically in three layers. You should go on a proper diet so your boyfriend doesn't leave you for a sexier woman," my aunt remarked as she passed by the table where I sat
