~JESSICA~

“Clinton, how did you get in here?” I asked as I removed my coat.

“Is that how you greet your husband?” He sounded serious.

“What’s that smell?” I asked and then walked to the kitchen.

“I tried to cook, but it didn't turn out well,” he followed behind me, and it turned out the smell was from burnt eggs.

I couldn’t hold my laughter.

“So you’re telling me you can’t even fry eggs?”

“Yes, why are you laughing?” He looked so innocent.

“You never learnt to cook?” I asked,

“Why learn when you can just employ someone to do it? The thing is, I didn’t know I would one day wake up married, or I could have learned." He confessed. No matter how angry I was at him, I just couldn’t help but feel butterflies in my stomach. Jade had never even once tried to cook for me. “Let’s eat out.” He invited, snapping me back to reality.

“Of course, let me just put on a clean dress,” I said and quickly left the kitchen. I couldn’t afford to start feeling something for this man.

He was my fiancé's uncle.

I closed the door behind me as soon as I reached my room. I took out my phone and dialed Loren’s number.

“Girl, you’re late,” she reminded me as soon as she picked.

“Listen, you have to cover for me tonight.”

“Wait what? Why?”

“My husband—Clinton is here, and we’re going out for dinner,” I said.

“Wow really? Don’t worry, enjoy yourself, but don’t forget to pack up all your gist because I’m coming early in the morning for it.”

“You’re a sweetheart; okay, I’ll talk to you tomorrow,” I said and almost ended the call when she stopped me.

“Wait, have the fool called you?” She was referring to Jade, as I already told her everything about the incident at the grocery store.

“No,” I sounded sad.

“Good, now take my advice and try to make your marriage work because if you don't, I’m snatching him from you,” she warned.

“I wish I could, but I can't; our marriage was a mistake.”

"No, it’s not, or if it is, then try and take advantage of the mistake.”

“What do you mean?”

“Remember the reason you approached him was to revenge that jerk, then stick to it. Play him like he’s doing with you,” she advised, and I was considering it. Maybe that’s just the best option now.

“I will call you later; I have to go now. I’ll be there early in the morning. Love you,” she said before she ended the call.

I quickly searched for a dress; I didn’t have many long kneed dresses. So I put on a red silk one that covered only my curves. It was short and tight on me; I just hoped he wouldn't complain.

After the last glance in the mirror, I headed out and I found him waiting—seated on my couch. He stood to his feet as soon as he saw me. He was staring at me with his mouth wide open.

"What?" I asked and waited for a complaint.

“Wow! How did I get so lucky?” He commented.

“I’ll take that as a compliment; come on, I’m hungry,” I said as I walked towards the door, leaving him behind. Just as I reached the door, he appeared from nowhere and opened it.

“My lady,” he said. I rolled my eyes before walking out. I noticed he had a key as he locked the door with his key.

“How did you get a key to my apartment?” I asked.

“Well, your landlord was kind enough to lend me a copy.”

“What? How?” I couldn’t believe it, as my landlord would never give out a key copy of any apartment.

“I’m an investor, so it was much easier,” he explained.

Outside, my neighbors were eyeing me weirdly; it was as if I had killed a person or something.

“Good day, Mr. Clinton." Almost everyone we passed greeted him. It seemed like he was famous around the neighborhood. He opened the door to the passenger's seat and then walked to the driver's.

“You seem quite famous,” I complimented.

“You think so?” He had a corner smile; now I understood why I met Jade here.

After a few minutes, we arrived at the restaurant; it was the most expensive in town. I knew because this is the place Loren always used to come to when she did hookups back before she met her boyfriend. I’ve never been here personally, as Jade always liked traveling; we would go for a date in Paris; he spent money like sand.

We were already seated on our table, and he was lovingly staring at me, it somehow made me shy.

“Good evening, Mr. Clinton and...”

“Mrs. Clinton,” it’s Clinton who finished for her.

“Yes, I hope you’re enjoying your evening. Are you ready to order?” She was battling her eyelashes, disregarding me. I, being a stripper, knew that move well.

"Well, I’ll have what my wife will have,” he turned to me.

"Okay, let me just take you through our menu,” she said as he bent a little. She was now standing beside Clinton; her words were like a whisper as she was just inches from his ear. She cleared her voice before she started talking. She shocked me, and I was starting to feel a little insulted.

“We have an Italian and Chinese menu; which one would you like to see first?”

“How about we start with my wife?”

“I will assist her; we can get your order first,” she insisted as she pushed her chest out. Well, at least I had my boobs done so her boobs were not bigger than mine.

Clinton cleared his throat and moved a little from her then spoke, “I’m sure you love your job here..." She immediately stood to her feet, hearing his words.

“I’m so sorry, sir.”

“Please get us another assistant,” he ordered.

"Sir, I can still assist the both of you; my apologies for—”

“We insist, and I would like for you to apologize to my wife,” he said. She looked embarrassed and then swallowed hard. After Clinton warned that she might lose her job, she apologized and called another assistant to help us.

After we had finished ordering, he turned to me and asked, “Are you okay?”

“Clinton, you're a great man; I’m not the right woman for you.”

“You’re perfectly right for me.”

“I have a boyfriend. I want us to get a divorce,” I said.

“The same guy who turned out to be married?” I didn’t respond. It was true that the boyfriend I wanted to divorce him for had a wife. So I just remained silent, and he took my hands into his.

“Let’s eat okay,” he said, and I nodded. My mind was now with Jade; he lied to his wife that I was seducing him—what a jerk.

———

“I’ll call you okay; I could come in, but I have a meeting early in the morning, and I don’t want to fight you,” he said and brought my hands to his lips and pecked them—his mouth was warm, we were at my apartment.

“Goodnight,” I said as I got out and headed to my apartment. He didn’t drive until I entered inside.

There was romantic music playing in the background. I quickly switched on my light, and to my surprise, there were red roses all over the floor.

“What’s going on here?” I kicked off my shoes and walked to the bedroom where the music was coming from. Only to find Jade seated on my bed shirtless, holding a bottle of wine and two glasses.

“You’re here,” he said as he took steps towards me. I took steps backwards until my back hit the wall.

“What are you doing here, Jade?”

“What question is that, love? I’m here for you.”

“What? After what happened at the grocery store?”

“I'm sorry, love; she's dying soon. I had to act or she could die in the shop,” he explained, and I believed him.

“About your phone, why did she have access to your phone?”

“Babe, I don’t know how she got it, but she did and was angry with the pictures. She almost had a heart attack. I had to lie to her.”

“Stop!” I shouted as he tried to take steps towards me.

“Babe?”

“No Jade I can’t. I can’t keep being your side chick and get insulted.”

“Love I’m sorry, but if you have to be with me, this is how it’s going to be for now.”

"Well, maybe I don’t want to be with you anymore.”

"What, Jessie, you know I would die without you.”

"Well, apparently you didn’t die for a week as you ignored me.”

“I didn’t ignore you; I was not here; we went to visit her family outside the city. I’m sorry I didn’t let you know,” he pleaded, but it was too late; my mind was made up. I couldn’t keep being his side chick anymore.

"Well, until your life is fixed, we will not continue to see each other for now. I think we both agree that we need a break,” I said, meaning it, but he kneeled down.

“Jade...”

“I’m not losing you,” he sounded like he was going to cry.

“No Jade I’m tired; just get up and leave, please.” I stood firm in my decision.

“I'm so sorry, babe. I know I did you wrong, but I thought you would understand. Please, you know I can't stay away from you. I love you. You and I have been together for three years planning a family. Now that we are close to having it, you want to just throw it out of the window?” He was surely going to cry, and I couldn't watch him cry. I kneeled with him as I took the bottle and glasses from his hand and placed them on the table.

He was hiding his face from me, so I cupped his chin as I faced him.

“Jess, I love you,” he said with tears in his eyes.

“I know, I’m just tired; I can't handle this.”

"Yes, you can; we will go through this together. We will overcome it.” I couldn’t help but lean in for a kiss; he responded by biting my bottom lip, and before I knew it, he was undressing me while I undid his buttons.

He picked me up, threw me on the bed, and crawled on top of me. Just like old times.

———

There was heavy knocking on the door; Jade was still asleep. He looked so peaceful, I felt sorry for him now that I understood that he was just hurting as much as I was in this situation.

I didn’t have enough time to adore my man as the heavy knocking continued; I’m sure it was Loren here for gossip.

I quickly put on a shirt and rushed to the door. I had to get rid of her, as she might be angry if she found out that I slept with Jade. She was just looking out for me, but she didn’t understand my feelings. Jade is my first boyfriend. I spent years planning our perfect family, and I was not going to lose him over this situation.

“Loren I...” A hot slap stung my cheek as soon as I opened the door; I didn’t even finish my sentence.

“Prostitute, so you managed to lure him into your filthy apartment, bitch, where’s my husband?” It was Lucy; I honestly didn't have the time to deal with this sick girl today.

I gently squeezed her hands and asked, “What did she say?”“Nothing, she only apologized and told me she's going to seek help,” she said. Even though she tried to hide her pain, I could still tell she was hurting for her—Sophia was her mother after all."Okay, that's good. What did you tell her?”“Nothing, I ended the call in her ear.”“Kiki…”"No, Mom, Sophia is an evil person, she doesn't deserve anyone's forgiveness.”“True, what Sophia did was bad.”“Not bad, separating a mother and child is unforgivable, talk of the pain Layla went through, no, I can't forgive her.”“I understand, I'm not saying what she did was right, no, Sophia caused not only Layla but all of us pain. What I'm saying is that everyone deserves a second chance, especially if they are willing to accept and work on their mistake,” I explained, and she nodded. “You might not be ready by now, but I'm sure one day you will.”“But…”“She will always be the woman who gave birth to you, you will forgive her someday,” I t

~JESSICA~I looked around and saw that the whole family was there even Jade who was holding his baby.“Jessica, come here,” Mrs. Smith said, taking me in her arms. I was confused. The last time we were together, she was not pleased with me, she blamed me for Clinton’s conditoin—when Accardo shot him, she even threatened to force him to divorce me if it weren't for the kids. “I hope all is well?” she asked as we pulled away. I only nodded, as I was sure my breath was still full of alcohol. I didn't want to give her a reason to judge me.“Clinton, my boy,” Mr. Smith said, taking Clinton in his arms. When I pulled away from Mrs. Smith's arms, I walked to Mr. Smith, who also took me into his arms. I didn't stay for long in Mr. Smith's arms. "Oh, my baby, look at you,” Mrs. Smith said, walking to Jade. The baby was crying, so she took him from his arms.I turned to Grace, who was chatting with Layla, her daughter-in-law. “Good evening, Grace,” I said, and they both stood to their feet, Gra

~JESSICA~He didn't say anything, he instead sped up and I said, “Clinton, I'm just joking.”“No, you're not, now I understand why you acted like you couldn't see me when those girls talked to me,” he said, and I looked out the window.Since Clinton drove at a fast speed, it only took a few minutes to reach the house. I got out first, and Clinton followed behind. “What did I even do that you played such a trick on me?”“Nothing, you didn't do anything, Clinton, I thought you were bored and wanted some entertainment since I know a cellphone always bores you,” I said, he fastened his steps and I fastened mine—making sure he didn't catch up with me.“I didn't tell you I was bored, what could have happened if I entertained them?”“I knew you wouldn't, that's why I did it,” I said, and this time I reached our bedroom. I almost removed my dress, but before I knew it, I was pinned against the wall.“Do you know what got me angry?” He asked.“Yes, they called me pretty.”“And it's only me tha

~JESSICA~“Clinton, how are you? H-how is Kiara?“She's fine, why did you call?” Clinton harshly asked.“I'm glad, and Jessica, how is she?”“She's fine too. Do you have anything to actually say because I'm busy?”“Yes, I want to apologize for everything. I know what I did is unforgivable, especially stealing Sophie from Layla and using her against you. I shouldn't have done that.”"Yes, you shouldn't have.”“I caused another woman pain, I didn't want to accept that what we had or what I thought we had was over, and Jessica,” her voice cracked. I grabbed the phone from Clinton.“Hi Sophia, it's okay, we…” I paused and looked at Clinton, who didn't look happy. “We forgive you and Kiara, she might not forgive you now, but she will, she just needs time.”“Thank you, Jessica, you are such a good person.”“You are good too, you saved Clinton,” I told her, and after bidding goodbye, she ended the call, and we walked toward the entrance.“Why are you such a good person after what Sophia did t

~JESSICA~~LONDON~~A WEEK LATER~“Come on, Clinton, she told me he is a friend,” I argued and took a sip of my glass of water as I watched my husband chop vegetables.“I don't care, she can't be friends with boys.” “Kiara is smart, I don't think anyone can play her.” I placed the glass on the counter and leaned on the counter.“Play her, okay, that's it, she's coming back, they will be going to school from the house,” he said, sounding serious.“And you think that will stop her? She will still be going to school.”“At least I will monitor her every move.” He was worried about Kiara's new friend, they came over yesterday for dinner, and because he was a boy, he thought it was dangerous, as he didn't want anyone to play her heart. I trusted Kiara, she was smart, and I knew no one could play her.“I won't let you do that.”“Love, you don't understand boys, they like to experiment and do funny things, I don't want that to happen to my daughters.”“Says a man with three sons.” I rolled my

~JESSICA~I struggled to open my eyes because of the little dim light that was foreign to my eyes. My room's curtain was black because I hated sun rays, so this was definitely not my room.“Stand by the window; she hates light!” I heard Clinton's voice, and I shot my eyes open. “Thank God you're awake, I was getting worried.” He ran to my side and took my hands into his. I looked at him, confused, before my eyes roamed to take in my surroundings. It was a small room, everything was white, and by the ceiling, I easily figured we were on a yacht. I sat up and looked at him, confused.“Do you need anything—juice, water—are you hungry?” He asked, and I shook my head.“My kids—where are my kids?”“They are safe,” he responded, and then turned to the man who covered the little window, and he took a hint as he walked out.“Accardo, what happened to him?”“He's arrested, Jardin called the FBI, and he will be locked up for at least some years, as knowing him, he might buy his freedom.” He respo

~JESSICA~The priest started the ceremony, and my eyes somehow found their way to the door. I knew no one could save me as I locked up the only person who could, but I still hoped he found a way.I didn't want to marry Accardo, Clinton was my husband, he will always be the man I love, and marrying another man was wrong. I knew this was for the best, so I blinked away the tears and looked back at the priest, who asked us to hold hands.“You are mine, no one will come and save you now, even if they try. My guards surround the church. They won't hesitate to shoot anyone who was not invited.” He grabbed my hands and held them so tight that I started to feel pain.“I can work for you without needing to marry you,” I stuttered as my eyes landed on the rings.“I know, but I also want to teach that bastard a lesson, he's the reason I couldn't succeed in getting rid of you and your sister. That bastard has been getting on my nerves. I can't wait to send him our wedding pictures,” he said, and t

~JESSICA~“I'm sorry,” I ran my hand through my hair, not knowing how to defend myself."Sorry, cannot fix this, I'm so disappointed in you.” I didn't respond because what was there to say? I betrayed him, but only because I thought he cheated on me. “We have five kids, five kids, and you just went ahead and slept with another man?”“I thought you cheated on me.”“That is not an excuse, I have never cheated on you, and I never slept with anyone since I met you, but you—you keep betraying my love.” He sounded both angry and disappointed. That was true, Clinton never slept with anyone since we met, he only hired a stripper that time, and still, that stripper only gave him head, and that time we were not together.“I don't know what you want me to say. I'm sorry, okay.”“How many times?” He cut me, and I was once again on my feet, face-to-face, with him.“Clint I…”“How many times, Jessica, how many times did that bastard touch you?” He shouted.“One, it only happened once, we were both d

“When do you want the delivery, ma’am?”“Now, I want it now, if you please.”“Alright, just say out your address, and it will be delivered to you within a few minutes,” she said, and I gave her the house address before I ended the call, just like magic Clinton appeared.“Who were you talking to?” he suspiciously asked, and I shook my head.“No one, hehe, did you get it?” “Yes, do you need anything else?” He asked, and I looked down. He had, like, ten packets of pads in his hands.“Why did you bring all this?” I laughed.“I didn't know which one you preferred, and you have like ten different brands, I didn't want you to send me away again,” he said, walking toward me."Okay, it's fine, j–just take them to the guest bathroom, I will be there,” I nervously said. I wanted him to be far away so I could go and receive the delivery.“Are you sure?”“Yes, I'm very sure, please.” I made a pitiful look, and he looked at me suspiciously before he spoke.“Can I get a kiss for being such a wonderf
