Chapter 45: Not Gonna Back Down

~ Gwen ~

"I’ll see you at lunch, Leon?"

"Count on it," he nodded, giving me a quick wave before heading off toward the science wing. I didn't waste another second and raced inside, slipping into my seat just as the professor started the lecture.

By the time lunch rolled around, I was starving. I found Elodie at our usual table in the cafeteria, her tray already piled high with greens.

"I met someone today," I blurted out as I sat down.

Elodie’s eyes lit up instan

Chapter 100: Hit Me with Your Best Shot.~ Gwen ~The following morning, I woke up with a brand new sense of purpose. I was entirely determined to fight back against the relentless bullying, even though I knew my direct rival was a literal supernatural creature with physical abilities far beyond my own. Before I even walked out the front door to head to campus, I pulled up Coach Hayes’ contact number and hit dial."Good morning, Coach Hayes. I was wondering if you could do me a quick favor today?" I asked, tossing my heavy duffel bag onto the passenger seat of my car before slipping behind the steering wheel."Good morning, Gwen. Sure, what's on your mind?" she asked politely over the line."Are you going to be around the athletic department grounds at all today?""Yes, absolutely. I don't have any of those mandatory sports management meetings scheduled for this morning," she confirmed."Perfect. Will you actually be available to oversee today's cheer practice?" I pressed. There was a

Chapter 99: The Salem Moon Hounds.~ Yates ~A collective gasp went through the room, several players instantly shifting uncomfortably in their seats."Is that seriously who we have to compete against next?" Lenny Webster asked, wanting to clarify the announcement."Yes, Webster, it is. Do you have an actual problem with that?" Coach Red replied, placing his hands firmly on his hips."No, Coach," Lenny mumbled, looking down.An immediate wave of quiet whispers broke out across the room. The Moon Hounds hockey program had been our fiercest, most frustrating rivalry ever since we were freshmen. We had faced off against them a total of four times over the past couple of seasons, and through every single one of those four matchups, we had never managed to beat them. They were comfortably sitting at the very top of the league standings. They always were. To make matters tougher, their entire roster consisted of werewolves just like us.The sports media constantly talked about Salem State,

Chapter 98: The Salem Moon Hounds.~ Yates ~I felt incredibly stupid the exact second I turned around and walked away from her. What on earth was I thinking?“You know, you can be a real jerk sometimes,” Jack’s voice echoed in my head the moment the restroom door swung shut behind me."I panicked, okay? And besides, I never should have let her kiss me in the first place," I muttered under my breath, tracking down the long hallway. I was walking fast, desperate to put some distance between myself and that corridor, when I originally ran into Gwen right outside the ladies' room.“But you still let it happen,” Jack pointed out, his tone dripping with wolfish smugness."It was a complete mistake, Jack. It’s not going to happen again," I snapped back mentally.“Hmm,” was all my wolf offered in response."I mean it, it won't!" I whispered aggressively as I pushed open the heavy door to the locker room."Who on earth are you talking to, Underwood?" Finn Ortiz asked, looking up from the low

Chapter 97: What Doesn't Kill You Makes You Stronger.~ Gwen ~"The weather was threatening to rain. I already explained that to Coach Hayes," she replied smoothly, waving a manicured hand."Cut the crap, Fanny. You, me, and literally every single girl standing in this gym right now knows that it is completely sunny outside," I countered, stepping closer. "I know exactly what you are trying to do.""Look, human girl, I honestly don't care whether you choose to believe me or not, but that is the reason the team came inside today," she said, her voice dropping into a mocking tone."Fine. Let’s pretend for a second that you actually thought it was going to rain. If the venue was changed, why wasn't I sent a notification about the new location?"Fanny chuckled, a cruel sound that made her friends giggle behind her. "We just didn't feel like telling you, Gwen. And in case you haven't realized it yet, the rest of the team has a separate group chat—one that you aren't a part of."My jaw tigh

Chapter 96: What Doesn't Kill You Makes You Stronger.~ Gwen ~The next morning, I walked out onto our usual practice field, expecting to hear the familiar sounds of sneakers hitting the grass and coordinates being shouted. Instead, the entire expanse of lawn was completely empty. There wasn't a single person in sight, which felt incredibly bizarre given the notification from the day before."Isn't this the exact spot where we always run our routines?" I muttered to myself, looking around at the vacant field.I pulled my phone out of my pocket, unlocked the screen, and quickly typed out a message to the group chat:> HEY EVERYONE, WHERE IS REHEARSAL TODAY? I’M OUT ON THE FIELD RIGHT NOW AND I’M NOT SEEING A SINGLE PERSON.> I hit send and watched the message status change to delivered. Minutes ticked by, and absolutely nobody on the team said a single thing. The entire conversation thread remained completely dead. Frustrated, I manually tagged SyrenDdamsel in a follow-up text, knowin

Chapter 95: Undeniable Chemistry.~ Gwen ~"Actually, it kind of is my business, considering the fact that Jerome is my best friend," he countered, stepping a fraction closer."Well, if you're really that curious about his life, why don't you just go ask Jerome yourself?" I snapped back."But I'm not asking him, Gwen. I'm asking you," he insisted."Why are you so completely caught up in my personal life, Yates?" I demanded, my voice tight. "You and I are clearly not an item. You have a girlfriend. So why on earth are you acting so incredibly nosy about who I decide to spend my time with?""Maybe it's because I actually care about you," he said softly. The confession hung in the quiet hallway. "No, you don't," I whispered quickly, trying to protect myself."I do," he repeated, his gaze completely steady.I just stared at him, my heart hammering against my ribs as all the built-up tension and repressed desire from the past few days came rushing to the surface. The imagination I had been
