LOGINAmy's POV
I remained in that room for a couple more hours, another plate of food was brought for me and I chewed through it not really tasting anything but swallowing it down anyways.
Eventually Madame Loretta came for me. She handed me that same blindfold again, I guess I was working with spare trust.
I accepted the blindfold and erupted around my eyes then she took my arm and pulled me out of the room. We kept walking for a while and occasionally I would bump into something she would curse in a deep accent I don't know if it was targeted at me or the objects I bumped into after a while she stopped and said.
"She's here, Boss."
By the time I tore off my blindfold Madame Loretta was gone and I was in what appeared to be a lounge it was equipped with a poker table, and cushioned, plush sofas along with a small Crystal chandelier at the center.
Mr Moretti sat in one of the smaller sofas or perhaps it just shrank because of how tall he was.
There was a bottle of whiskey in one hand and two glasses in the other he poured into both and then gestured for me to come closer. I did then he told me.
"Take one..."referring to the glasses of whiskey, I gulped ironically even though I had worked as a bartender I wasn't the biggest fan of alcohol but something told me that this was a test Mr Moretti didn't look like the kind of man who just did things for the sake of so I took the whiskey and swallowed it in one gulp the burnt that rushed down my throat caused me to cough.
"You don't want drink?" He asked me picking up on it instantly the burn was still in my throat when I responded back.
"No, I don't really have the stomach for alcohol."
"Well then I hope that you are more thick skin for other things." He said then he told me to sit turning his eyes to the spot next to him on the sofa, I took it without question there was something about the way he spoke that made you want to listen to him even if you were also shivering with fear and anxiety.
As I was seated he pulled a small photo graph out of his pocket and then handed it over to me pressing it into my palm I spread the photo so get a good look at the person that was on it there was a man, was not as handsome as Mr Moretti but he had a presence that seem to carry itself through the photograph his eyes were turned away from the camera is cigarette tucked between his lips and his hand shoved into his pocket.
"Who is this?" I asked presuming that he was somebody important that Mr Moretti wanted me to know about. Mr Moretti tapped on the photograph.
"His name is Enzo Marino, a captain in the La Tigre Nera... There are talks about him being the next under boss but nothing is confirmed yet."
I could feel the parts of my fingers getting wet, things were becoming more real with every ticking second this info that he was spilling out to me wasn't something that's a normal civilian was supposed to know at least not this intimately.
The realization of what I had agreed to was beginning to sip in but I didn't want panic to overtake me, I kept listening with a deep intensity as he gave me more details about the man in the picture until it felt like I had a known him for a while.
I folded the picture when he finally got to the parts that involved me.
"The thing is Enzo has been a pain in my neck for a long while a bit too long, now there has always been the option of killing him. But then I would have the La Tigre Nera on me and he's not worth that much trouble. And Enzo is smart despite appearances... He knows how to cover his tracks but I know with him it's couldn't be anyone else."
The way he said this man's name, it rang with familiarity it made me wonder if there was a time that they used to get along before things became like this he noticed I was getting distracted in my own thoughts than snapped his fingers in my face forcing me to come back to the present.
"Did you understand what I want you to do?"
I was both embarrassed and scared at the same time I had to go to destructed while he was talking and now I had to know idea what he needed me to do.
"Yes of course," I said to him too afraid to admit that I had zoned off in the middle of the conversation without wanting to but it had happened anyways.
"Are you sure this is something you can do?" He asked coming closer close enough that I had no other choice than to smell his cologne mixed with his natural masculine scent that made my head start to spin and my heart racing a little bit faster.
"I can," I assured him still having no idea what he just asked me to do and beyond afraid of what it could be when I would eventually find out however it was better than telling him that I didn't hear him earlier.
"All right then..." He got up adjusting his shirt, "you have exactly one chance to prove that you are worth being kept like this if you fail then we will go back to the previous arrangement regardless of what you really want, do you understand, bunny?"
I still had no idea why he had given me that nickname but it was one of the many things I could not ask him but kept to myself.
I wore my blindfold again before madam Loretta came back to fetch me and all through day I wondered just what I had agreed to and what would come next for me.
Antonio’s POVI bit into a piece of dark chocolate, my eyes planted on the monitors in my study. Other than the crunching of the sweet treat, there was nothing else but silence. Then, my eyes widened by a fraction when I saw my right-hand man. Carlos, who should have been resting, was limping out of Amy’s room with a look on his face that made my senses immediately tingle with suspicion. There was something going on. I could smell it. Insubordination hung high in the air, and if I wanted to, I could have summoned both of them and burned the truth out of them. But I didn't. Instead, I waited. I watched. Anytime it felt like my curiosity was simmering over, I remembered her eyes—the betrayal that moved between them when I yelled at her last night, saying every terrible thing I could think of rather than the one thing nested deep inside me.Finally, I was tired of being left in the dark. I called Loretta to my study. In only a few minutes, she stood before my desk. To her credit, she was
Amy's POV"Ugh..." I groaned as the morning light escaped through the gap of the curtains and spilled over my face. It would have been nice to go out and bask in it properly, then I was reminded that I was under confinement. I sighed in defeat.I was about to roll around and go back to sleep when a thought snapped into life. I jumped off the bed immediately, flipping the mattress and going at every drawer, turning over furniture until the room looked like a hurricane had gone through it. I kept doing this until it felt like my palms were burning. My heart hammered against my ribs in a rhythm that was broken and uneven. The search had taken an hour, and there was nothing to show for it other than the acceptance of what had happened: my burner phone was gone.I sat up uneasily on the edge of the bed, my breath shallow and cracked. I had taken it with me into Enzo's domain, and in my haste to escape with Carlos, I had forgotten it. There was no doubt that eventually, it would fall into E
Enzo’s POVAs I inhaled a deep breath, the charred remains of my precious warehouse seemed to enter my nostrils. I looked around at the millions wasted, all in the wake of that bastard's rage. To think that I had been ticking him off intentionally all these years, and this was the thing that made him go over the edge.I continued to walk over the ruins, crushing further what was already irretrievably destroyed, until I found myself standing at the very center of the wreckage of a shipment I had been waiting for for months. I felt the urge to laugh. I opened my mouth, yet no sound came out, so I just closed it back, dusting some of the debris off my shoulder. The tailored suit on my body was as good as ruined; nothing would ever get out the smell of smoke. Yet, I still stood in the middle of it all, thinking that all it took was one tiny button to bring millions level with the ground."Antonio... after hesitating for so long, she was finally the thing that made you move, huh?""Boss,"
Amy's POVI heard a mechanical crunch and, afterwards, saw the bits and pieces of Antonio's phone fall onto the floor in a pathetic pile. He ended the call between him and his brother in the most extreme way. He didn't walk away after that; he just stood there, perfectly still, like a statue—a perfectly chiseled, dark statue."Antonio, please say something..." The silence was getting to me again. I didn't know what to expect from him when nothing was being said for far too long. Then, he turned around to face me, and there was a flicker of something incredibly wrong deep beneath his eyes—something I couldn't quite read. He came back toward me again and raised his hand, not to hit me, but to hover over my cheek, forming the ghost of a touch. His fingers carefully grazed over my jawline as if I were a bomb that could detonate at any time."If I knew this would happen," he said, his voice barely above a whisper, "I would have done everything possible to make sure that you had never stepp
Amy's POV The adrenaline that had been pumping through my body the one that carried me through the ventilation shaft and down to the basement, the one that held me even as I was about to have my skull smashed in finally began to ebb away. It left behind a hollow void that ached with every motion.Slumber was dragging me off. Before I knew it, I could only blink twice and then the world was complete darkness. Everything stayed that way, with Antonio’s overpowering presence being the last thing I felt. I slept through the rest of the drive, and I couldn't have been more grateful to escape from that tense awkwardness, even if it was just for a while. But it did not last forever. Soon, I was brought back to consciousness by the car abruptly stopping. My head was in a position where I could see, from the corner of my eye, the mansion gates closing. I didn't move; I just remained like that until I felt myself being lifted. I let my body go limp, still exhausted, collapsing into the strong
Amy's POVWithout looking away from the man, he signaled his men, and they came to grab Carlos, who was already slipping into unconsciousness. His other men took care of the giant who had been about to knock me out. As they did so, Antonio pulled back, and his gaze moved anywhere else other than where I was.In that moment, I was reminded of my place. Of course, he hadn't come here for me—just for Carlos. At best, I was just an added bonus. He came forward, grabbing my arms while still avoiding looking directly at me. He pulled me up, saying nothing, and just dragged me along. As we walked past other soldiers belonging to Enzo, they didn't make an attempt to go after us; they just stood to the side, but with a heat that could burn through ice.I was more or less yanked into the back seat. What was supposed to bring relief brought a different type of tension, loading into my chest as the SUV began its suffocating ride back. Antonio didn't say anything, and somehow his presence still fi
