Chapter 13

Patricia woke up to the sound of her alarm going off, accompanied by a throbbing headache. She sat at the edge of her bed and glanced at the ringing alarm clock. It was already five o’clock in the morning. She let out a yawn, stretching her hands above her head and still feeling sleepy from the all-night research on the highers. Unfortunately, she found nothing as they were too secluded.

“It won't hurt to sleep a bit more,” she said to herself as she slowly dropped her body back onto the bed. Her intention was to sleep for just a few minutes before preparing for work, but those minutes turned into hours.

Suddenly, there was a vigorous knock on her door, jolting her out of her dreamy state. With a groan, she pushed herself out of the warmth of her duvet and stood up. Groggily, she made her way to the door, scratching her eyes. The keys jingled as she unlocked the door. She pressed the silver doorknob down, dragging it forward and opening the door.
