The sharp pain that had been building in Mira's back suddenly intensified, making her gasp and grip the edge of the council table. The baby, which had been active all morning, gave a particularly strong kick that seemed to ripple through her entire midsection.

"Mira?" Lucian was at her side instantly, his protective instincts flaring.

"I'm fine," she managed, though the pain was concerning. "Just... the baby's very active today."

Healer Thorne approached with professional concern. "Luna, how long have you been having these pains?"

"Since this morning, but they're getting stronger—" Another wave of discomfort made her double over slightly.

"Sit down," Thorne ordered gently, guiding her to a chair. "Let me examine you."

As Thorne checked her pulse and pressed carefully on her abdomen, Mira caught Lucian's worried expression. "What is it?" she asked.

"These feel like contractions," Thorne said carefully, "but you're only five months along. It's likely Braxton Hicks—practice contractions. Your body is responding to stress." He looked around the room at the maps, the urgent discussions, the palpable tension. "You need rest."

"I need to handle this situation with the Luna families," Mira protested, even as another false contraction made her wince.

"You need to handle growing a healthy baby," Lyra said firmly from her position by the fire, her own infant sleeping peacefully. "The stress isn't good for either of you."

Before Mira could argue further, urgent footsteps echoed in the corridor. A scout burst in, his face flushed with urgency.

"Luna, Alpha—three messengers have arrived from different directions. All bearing news of hidden Luna families."

Lucian stepped forward. "What kind of news?"

"They felt something," the scout reported. "A power surge, they said. It happened just as the Luna's... episode began. The families are asking for guidance—some want to come here, others are reporting they're being hunted."

Mira struggled to her feet despite Thorne's protests. "They felt the false labor? That's not possible unless..."

"Unless your Luna power is stronger than we realized," Lyra finished quietly. "Even false contractions from a Luna of your strength could send ripples across the territories."

"There's more," the scout continued grimly. "Alpha Garrett's forces are two days out. He's bringing a full war party. The messengers say he's claiming the right to 'evaluate and regulate' any Luna bloodlines in the region."

Another false contraction hit Mira, and this time she felt silver light flicker around her in response to the pain and anger. The baby kicked hard, as if responding to her emotional state.

"This is exactly what we can't let happen," she said through gritted teeth. "We need to establish a network before more wolves like Garrett decide to make moves."

Lyra shifted her baby to one arm and approached carefully. "I can help coordinate safe passage to allied territories. My family knows the hidden routes. But we need to move quickly—and you need to rest."

"She's right," Lucian said firmly. "Thorne, what does she need?"

"Bed rest for the remainder of the day," the healer prescribed. "The false contractions should ease with rest and reduced stress. But if they continue or worsen..."

"They won't," Mira said with determination, though she accepted Lucian's help getting to her feet. "Because we're going to solve this before it gets worse."

As they helped her toward their chambers, Mira looked back at the maps spread across the table. "Send word to the hidden families. Tell them to stay put until we can establish secure communication routes. And prepare our defenses—Garrett isn't going to find us as easy to intimidate as he thinks."

The false alarm had been a warning, but it had also revealed just how connected she was becoming to Luna families across the territories. Whether that was a strength or a vulnerability remained to be seen.

The baby settled as they reached their quarters, as if responding to the calmer environment. But Mira knew the respite was temporary—the real challenges were just beginning.

The great hall had been arranged for formal negotiations, with Elder Sage's ancient Charter displayed prominently on the central table. Mira took her position at the head of the room, her pregnancy making the ceremonial chair uncomfortable but her Luna authority unmistakable.Kane entered with calculated confidence, flanked by two guards and followed by Selene. The former Luna candidate looked different—harder somehow, her dark hair pulled back severely and her eyes holding a cold pragmatism that hadn't been there before."Alpha Kane," Mira said formally. "You requested this meeting. Speak."Kane's gaze swept the assembled wolves before settling on her. "Impressive display of power last week, Luna. Half the territories felt your projection. Including some who weren't supposed to know you existed.""Get to the point," Lucian said tersely."The point is that your demonstration has accelerated everything," Kane replied. "Garrett's not just moving against known Luna families anymore. He's

Dawn brought urgent news that changed everything. Mira woke to find Lucian already dressed, his expression grim as he read a message that had arrived during the night."What is it?" she asked, struggling to sit up as the baby stirred restlessly."Kane," Lucian said, his voice tight. "He's requesting a meeting."Mira felt her blood chill. The last time she'd seen the Ironback Alpha, she'd used her Luna power to humiliate him before his entire pack. "What does he want?""To discuss terms, apparently. His messenger says he has information about Garrett's inspection teams—and a proposal that could change the balance of power at both assemblies."Before Mira could respond, Healer Thorne entered with his morning supplies, immediately noticing her elevated heart rate. "Luna, your pulse is racing. What's happened?""Politics," Mira said dryly, though she accepted his help getting comfortable. "The kind that makes my blood pressure spike.""At six months pregnant, you can't afford blood pressu

The morning after Elder Sage's revelation, Mira woke to the baby's most active movements yet. Strong kicks seemed to follow a rhythm, as if responding to the ancient power invoked the night before."Someone's excited about their heritage," Lucian murmured, his hand joining hers as another series of movements rippled across her belly.Healer Thorne arrived for his examination, concern evident as he felt the intensity of the baby's activity. "This level isn't typical. Has anything changed in your magical environment? The stress isn't good for either of you.""Everything's changed," Mira said, shifting uncomfortably. "We're establishing a new government while preparing for political battle.""If you're attending both assemblies, we need protocols now," Thorne warned, pulling out his medical supplies. "Portable healing equipment, emergency evacuation plans. Luna pregnancies are unpredictable under magical stress. Your projection could have triggered early labor.""How early?" Mira asked,

One week before the Grand Assembly, Blackpine territory had transformed into a hub of activity unlike anything in its history. Representatives from allied packs arrived daily, while Luna families emerged from decades of hiding to join what many were calling the most important gathering in generations.Mira stood in the great hall, her pregnancy now clearly visible at nearly six months, watching as Rowan coordinated with the Silverpine advance guard. Her energy had mostly returned, though Healer Thorne still monitored her closely."The Shadowmere family arrived this morning," Lyra reported, approaching with a bundle of correspondence. "Grandmother Elara is frail, but determined to testify. She has documents—old agreements between packs that might support our legal position.""What kind of agreements?" Lucian asked, looking up from the territorial maps he'd been studying with his war council."Pre-war treaties that explicitly protected Luna bloodlines," Lyra explained. "If they're still

Three days after the projection, Mira was still recovering. The massive expenditure of Luna power had left her drained in ways she'd never experienced, and Healer Thorne had confined her to bed rest with strict orders."The baby's heartbeat is strong," Thorne reported after his morning examination, "but your energy levels are still dangerously low. That kind of power projection... it's a miracle you didn't miscarry."Mira's hand moved protectively to her belly. "I had to try. Those families—""Are safe because of your sacrifice," Lucian interrupted, entering with a steaming cup of the strengthening tea Lyra had prepared. "But Thorne is right. You pushed too hard.""What's the latest word from our scouts?" Mira asked, accepting the tea gratefully."Mixed news," Lucian settled beside her on the bed. "Garrett's forces have retreated completely from the northern territories, but they're regrouping. And your... demonstration has attracted attention from unexpected quarters.""What kind of

The meditation chamber had been prepared with ancient symbols drawn in silver dust around Mira's chair. Lyra knelt beside her, speaking in low, rhythmic tones as she guided Mira through breathing techniques passed down through generations of hidden Luna families."Feel the silver light in your core," Lyra instructed. "Not just your own power, but the connection to every Luna bloodline. We're all threads in the same tapestry."Mira closed her eyes, her hands resting on her belly where the baby had grown remarkably still, as if sensing the importance of what was happening. She reached out with her consciousness, following the faint threads of Luna energy she could sense across the territories."I can feel them," she whispered. "The Shadowmere family—they're terrified. And others... scattered, hiding, some in pain.""Good," Lyra said. "Now, instead of just sensing them, try to send strength. Project your presence to them."Outside the chamber, Lucian paced anxiously while coordinating wi
