I followed Hayden upstairs, still not sure why he was acting this way. He didn’t even explain; he just walked straight to the bed, grabbed his phone from the nightstand, and sat down. He glanced at me, his eyes sharp. “Why are you standing there? Come sit here,” he said, patting the side of the bed.

I stayed frozen for a moment, watching him as if I were waiting for the punchline of some joke. When nothing came, I stepped forward and lowered myself onto the bed, the mattress dipping between us. “What’s that?” I asked cautiously.

Hayden exhaled heavily, almost as if he were preparing for something, then held the phone out toward me. “Play the video and watch. Maybe then you’ll realize your feelings for Maddox are trash. You saw him yesterday with me, right? That should tell you how guttered and open-minded he is. You can never have a chance with your mother’s husband, Kyle.”
