Chapter 2

Author: Cool Husky
The ambulance took Casey to the hospital.

Alex turned to me with a defiant look in his eyes. "Leo, there's nothing going on between Casey and I. I paid her to have a baby for me. That's it."

"Are you being serious?" I asked.

"Of course."

"Good," I said as I pulled out my phone.

"Hello, police? I suspect someone is forcing my girlfriend into illegal activity. Please send someone to the city hospital."

Alex panicked, smashing my phone on the ground. "Are you crazy? What are you doing?"

I smirked. "You just admitted that you paid Casey to have your child. She's my girlfriend, but she's pregnant with your kid, and you aren't even marrying her. You only want the baby and not the mother. If that is not illegal, then what?"

Alex's face turned red with anger, "That is nonsense! We agreed on this willingly!"

"Even better," I replied, laughing.

"You two deserve each other."

I picked up my phone and checked it. Luckily, it still worked. I started to edit the voice record of our conversation to save as evidence when Casey was wheeled out of the emergency room.

"Is Casey's family here?" the nurse called.

I stayed where I was, watching Alex glare at me before stepping forward.

"The patient is very unstable. She's already far along in her pregnancy. You mustn't let her get too emotional. She needs to be admitted for observation. Take care of the paperwork," the nurse told Alex.

As they talked, I stood to the side and smiled faintly.

Before long, the police arrived.

When she saw the police and me together, her face turned pale. She became visibly upset, but I whispered, "Stay quiet if you don't want to put your baby in danger."

She froze and stared at me helplessly.

I told the police officer the entire situation, including Alex's earlier confession. I even played the recording.

"Alex, you admit yourself that if both of you were not involved in a financial transaction, then it must be consensual, correct?"

"Yes!" Alex blurted.

"No! It isn't what you think, Leo!" Casey cried.

"Did he force you then?" I asked coldly.

"No…" Casey muttered, looking distraught.

"I see. So, you took his money to have his child, right?"

Casey became flustered.

Alex took a deep breath and said, "None of that is true. She volunteered."

The police officer's expression darkened and ordered, "Tell us the truth. What is going on?"

Casey finally caved. "We… We have genuine feelings for each other."

Hearing that, the officer gave me a sympathetic look and said, "This seems to be a personal matter. My advice is to handle it peacefully or take it to court."

I understood the situation, but I still wanted a formal report.

Alex also owed me for smashing my phone. I showed the police officer my phone, which still held crucial evidence. A compensation claim of a few thousand dollars seemed fair.

Alex was furious but had no choice but to hand me the money.

I pocketed it and turned to Casey. "We're done, Casey. Leave me alone."

"Leo, let me explain!" Casey screamed from behind as I walked away.

Alex tried to comfort her, but I was no longer interested.

I went back home and packed my stuff. After that, I posted a simple update on social media.

[I broke up with Casey. Don't bother me!]

Casey's face turned pale immediately while I continued, "Besides, I'm not interested in taking back what I've let go, let alone dealing with someone's scraps. Just leave and don't come looking for me again." Her lips trembled as she stared at me. Then, she burst into tears."It's my fault! I was so blind to losing the one who loved me most! I deserve this!" She suddenly let out a bitter laugh, rambling incoherently as she staggered away. I frowned. After closing the door, I adjusted the security cameras at the entrance just in case she tried to cause trouble for me. Two days later, the local news exploded with a shocking headline, and when I got to work, my colleagues were abuzz with gossip."Isn't that Mr. Blunt's ex? She killed someone!""Thankfully they broke up early, or he might've been the one who got stabbed!""She destroyed her own life!" I turned my head at their chatter and caught a glimpse of their phones. The top news story of the day was displayed. C

Alex was emotionless as he grabbed Casey by the hair. She winced in pain and reached out instinctively, revealing bruises all over her arms. The scattered marks, some fresh and others barely scabbed, showed signs of domestic violence.I stood still and watched coldly as Casey desperately cried out to me for help."Save me! I don't want to go back!" she begged.I remained unmoved, silently watching as Alex dragged her into the car and drove away. Her screams and sobs carried on the wind, but I did not say a word. None of that had anything to do with me anymore. After that, Casey stopped contacting me. However, an old neighbor sent me a message, revealing what had happened after Casey married into the Coopers. Apparently, the Coopers despised her. The wedding scandal had utterly humiliated them, and Alex did not dare to involve the police, blaming everything on Casey instead.Casey gave birth to a daughter, but the Coopers did not care for the girl. Alex, seeing her as a cu

Casey's desperate attempts to turn off the video playing on the giant screen were futile. "Turn it off! Turn it off now!" she screamed, panic-stricken. However, no one paid her any attention. The guests whispered amongst themselves."Even if they're married, why would they show something so outrageous?""She cheated! She hooked up with Alex while her boyfriend was abroad. How could a family like the Coopers accept such a wretched woman?"Alex's parents were visibly furious. The uncensored footage of Casey and Alex drew all eyes to the screen. Casey's face turned pale with humiliation on the stage. The Coopers glared at her with disgust, and Alex's parents left without a word. Before leaving, they turned to Alex and spat, "Clean up your own mess!"I sat in the back corner as a chuckle escaped me. 'You'll pay for your betrayal, Casey,' I thought to myself. The wedding ended in chaos with Casey fainting on stage. Alex rushed her to the hospital, where she gave birth

I asked for Casey's number. She blushed immediately, probably because it was the first time someone asked for her number publicly. There was an older lady in the pavilion who teased us, saying we were both young and should give it a shot. Casey shared her number with me shyly, and once the rain stopped, I offered to take her home. On the way, we chatted and I learned that she was the youngest in her family. Everyone hoped she would settle down in the capital city, and she had been working hard to make that happen. I was sympathetic for the young girl, and something about her drew me in. After that, we started to hang out more, and eventually, we became a couple. Casey told me that her biggest dream was to have a home in the capital city. I promised myself I would make that happen for her. I hesitated when my company asked me to go abroad. The pay would be better, but spending a year apart seemed unbearable. My boss became disappointed after my rejection.I was fr

Casey's mom proposed that Alex's family buy a house for Greg if they wanted Casey to marry him. However, to everyone's surprise, Alex's family rejected. They were not going to give a single penny. After the baby was born, she could stay home and raise it. No wedding, no fancy celebrations. Everything was cut back! One of my colleagues laughed. "You wouldn't believe it. Her mom got so mad she said they could just call off the wedding, saying that her daughter still had other options! "She has no idea what the market is like for young girls these days!" another colleague chimed in. "Who could afford to buy a house for their brother-in-law, especially in the capital city?" Everyone laughed. I could not help but laugh too. Thank goodness I did not marry Casey. Her family had only agreed to let me date Casey back then when I bought a house in the capital city. It seemed like they were after a house again. I was lucky enough to get out just in time. If I had not left, I

The neighbors quickly understood what was happening. "She got pregnant before marriage with someone else's kid and now wants this guy to play stepdad? Unbelievable!" "No wonder. I saw that woman bringing another guy home before. How shameless!""Exactly!" The neighbors' mocking remarks left Casey's mom flustered. She jumped to her feet and yelled, "That's nonsense! My daughter would never do something like that! You're doing this on purpose, aren't you? You and Casey are about to get married. Don't make false claims without evidence!"I let out a cold laugh. "Casey and I are over, and you dare to come here, assault me and call it a misunderstanding? None of you are leaving today!" Just then, the police arrived. "What's going on here?" "It's me. They came to cause trouble and assaulted me," I said calmly, showing them the security footage from my doorbell camera. Casey's mom turned pale when she realized I had evidence. Greg was arrested for attacking me, an
