Lyra did not move after the study door slammed shut.

The silence Ethan left behind was worse than his anger.

It pressed against the walls, filled the spaces between her breaths, and settled over her skin like a second layer of cold.

The burning mark on her palm pulsed.

Once.

Twice.

With every beat, the blood oath reminded her that she was no longer free to run.

Not from Ethan.

Not from the pack.

Not from the past she had spent three years trying to bury.

Lyra looked toward the closed study door.

Ethan had given her until the Harvest Moon.

A few weeks to prove she had not poisoned Clara.

A few weeks to save her brother.

A few weeks to uncover the person who had destroyed her life.

She pressed her injured palm against her chest.

“I won’t fail,” she whispered.

A faint scrape came from behind her.

Lyra turned.

The master suite was empty.

The fire had nearly died, leaving only a red glow beneath the logs. Shadows stretched across the stone floor. The windows were sealed from the inside, and the iron bolt remained across the main door.

No one could have entered.

Yet something had moved.

Her wolf lifted its head inside her mind.

**Not alone.**

Lyra’s gaze traveled to the enormous stone fireplace.

At first, she saw nothing except blackened logs and cold ash.

Then a scent reached her.

Not smoke.

Not Ethan.

Moonflower.

Her mother’s scent.

Lyra crossed the room slowly.

The scent grew stronger near the fireplace.

She knelt and examined the stonework. One section near the bottom was slightly raised. She pressed her fingers against it.

The stone shifted.

A narrow compartment opened behind the ashes.

Inside lay a folded strip of black cloth and a small silver key.

Lyra’s heartbeat quickened.

She lifted the cloth first.

A symbol had been embroidered into it: a crescent moon pierced by three claws.

The mark of the old Nightfang faction.

Her mother had once warned her never to trust anyone who wore that symbol.

Lyra remembered the night she had been accused.

The poisoned vial had been found beneath her mattress, wrapped in black cloth bearing the same crescent mark.

The Council had called it proof.

She had called it a setup.

Now the cloth was here, inside Ethan’s private chambers.

Lyra closed her fingers around it.

A floorboard creaked behind her.

She spun around.

The room remained empty.

Then the study door opened.

Ethan stepped out, his face unreadable.

His gaze immediately fell to the cloth in her hand.

For the first time since the blood oath, true alarm flashed across his features.

“Where did you find that?”

“In the fireplace.”

He crossed the room in two strides and took the cloth from her.

“Who else knows about this?”

“No one.”

“Did you touch the key?”

“Yes.”

Ethan’s jaw tightened.

“Where is it?”

Lyra held it up.

He snatched it from her palm.

The moment his fingers touched the metal, the blood mark on Lyra’s hand flared with heat.

Ethan felt it too.

His eyes turned amber.

“What is this?” she asked.

He stared at the key.

“Nothing.”

“You keep saying that when you mean something dangerous.”

Ethan closed his fist around it.

“This was not here three years ago.”

“Then someone placed it here tonight.”

“Or someone wanted you to find it.”

“That makes two of us.”

Ethan looked toward the locked door.

“Tell me exactly what happened after I left.”

Lyra explained everything—the scent, the raised stone, the cloth, and the key.

When she finished, Ethan moved to the fireplace.

He examined the compartment with a warrior’s precision.

“Only one person knew this room had a hidden passage,” he said.

“Who?”

“My father.”

Lyra’s chest tightened.

Ethan’s father had been dead for seven years.

“Was he involved in Clara’s poisoning?”

“I don’t know.”

Her anger rose.

“Ethan.”

“I said I don’t know.”

“You demand that I uncover the truth, but every time I ask you a question, you hide behind those words.”

His eyes flashed.

“Because I am trying to determine which parts of the truth will get you killed.”

“I’m already being threatened with execution.”

“You think I don’t know that?”

“Then stop treating me like a prisoner.”

Ethan stepped toward her.

“You are a prisoner.”

The words struck harder than she expected.

His expression changed, but he did not take them back.

“The Council believes you are a traitor,” he continued. “Victoria’s faction wants you dead. Your brother is being held in the northern cells. And whoever placed that cloth here can enter my private wing without being detected.”

He lifted the black fabric.

“You are not safe.”

“Neither are you.”

“I know.”

A sudden howl echoed from outside the fortress.

It was cut short.

Ethan went still.

“That was a perimeter guard.”

He moved toward the door.

Lyra followed.

“Stay here.”

“No.”

“Lyra—”

“If someone is inside your fortress, I want to know who.”

Ethan’s eyes narrowed.

“You’re becoming difficult.”

“I was always difficult. You were just too busy hating me to notice.”

For a moment, something like reluctant admiration touched his face.

Then the blood mark on both their palms burned at once.

A vision tore through Lyra’s mind.

A stone corridor.

A woman kneeling beside a silver basin.

A vial filled with dark red liquid.

Clara’s pale face.

And a voice whispering:

“She will take the blame before the moon rises.”

Lyra gasped and stumbled.

Ethan caught her before she hit the floor.

“What did you see?”

“Clara.”

His arms tightened around her.

“Where?”

“I don’t know.”

“Tell me.”

“A corridor. A basin. Someone was holding poison.”

“Who?”

Lyra closed her eyes, trying to pull the image back.

There had been a ring on the woman’s finger.

A silver ring with a black stone.

The same ring Victoria’s father wore during Council hearings.

“Lord Vale,” Lyra whispered.

Ethan’s expression turned deadly.

“You saw my councilor?”

“I saw the ring. I’m not certain it was him.”

“Where was Clara?”

“I don’t know.”

Ethan released her and opened the door.

“Guards!”

Two warriors rushed into the room.

“Seal the fortress,” Ethan ordered. “No one leaves. Search every corridor, especially the northern wing.”

One guard bowed and ran.

Lyra followed Ethan down the passage.

The private wing opened into a circular stairwell. Torches flickered along the walls, their flames bending toward the lower levels.

As they descended, the air grew colder.

The scent of moonflower returned.

Lyra stopped.

“It’s here.”

Ethan looked at her.

“What is?”

“My mother’s scent.”

His expression hardened.

“Your mother has been dead for three years.”

“I know what she smelled like.”

The scent drifted from behind a narrow iron door.

Ethan pushed it open.

Beyond it was a forgotten archive.

Dusty shelves filled the chamber. Old Council records were stacked from floor to ceiling. A single lantern burned on a stone table.

Someone had been there recently.

Lyra stepped inside.

On the table lay a bundle of papers.

The top page bore her name.

**LYRA HAYES: BLOODLINE ASSESSMENT.**

She reached for it.

Ethan caught her wrist.

“Wait.”

A thin silver wire ran from the papers to the doorframe.

A trap.

Ethan drew a dagger and cut the wire.

Nothing happened.

Lyra pulled the papers toward her.

The first page listed the history of the Hayes bloodline.

The second contained a sentence that made her blood turn cold.

**Lyra Hayes is not the final heir of the Moon-Bound line.**

Below it was another name.

**The surviving heir is male.**

Lyra stared at the words.

Her brother.

The prison.

The execution threat.

“Ethan,” she whispered. “They never wanted my brother dead.”

He read the page.

His face went rigid.

“They wanted him hidden.”

A sound came from behind the shelves.

Ethan raised his dagger.

“Come out.”

No one answered.

Lyra’s wolf snarled.

**Behind us.**

She turned.

A figure in a dark cloak stood in the doorway.

The person wore a silver mask shaped like a wolf’s skull.

Ethan stepped between Lyra and the stranger.

“Remove the mask.”

The figure tilted its head.

“You still command as if the throne belongs to you.”

Ethan’s eyes flashed.

“Who are you?”

The stranger laughed softly.

“The man your father failed to kill.”

Ethan went pale.

The stranger lifted one hand.

A wave of power struck the room.

The torches exploded.

In the darkness, Lyra felt Ethan’s grip tear away from hers.

Then the stranger seized her from behind.

A cold blade pressed against her throat.

Ethan’s voice became a deadly growl.

“Release her.”

The masked figure dragged Lyra backward.

“Call off the execution of her brother.”

Ethan did not move.

The blade pressed harder against Lyra’s skin.

A thin line of blood formed.

“And if I refuse?” he asked.

The stranger leaned close to Lyra’s ear.

“Then the Alpha will lose both of his heirs before the Harvest Moon.”

Ethan’s breathing changed.

“Both?”

The masked figure pulled the wolf mask away.

The torchlight returned in a sudden burst.

Lyra saw the man’s face.

She knew him.

Everyone in the pack believed he had died in the same ambush that killed her parents.

Ethan stared at him in horror.

“No,” he whispered.

The man smiled.

“Hello, little brother.”

Ethan’s dagger fell from his hand.

The stranger pressed the blade closer to Lyra’s throat.

“My name is Adrian Blackthorn,” he said. “And I am the true heir to the Alpha throne.”

The blood mark on Lyra’s palm blazed.

A second mark appeared on the stranger’s wrist.

Ethan’s wolf roared inside the archive.

Adrian leaned toward Lyra.

“Now,” he whispered, “tell your mate who really poisoned Clara.”

The archive doors slammed shut.

  • Shattered Promises of the Alpha   The Voice Inside Her

“Thank you for opening the door.”The voice came from everywhere and nowhere, echoing through the shattered mirrors until Lyra could no longer tell whether it was speaking from the walls or from inside her own head. It sounded exactly like her, carrying the same trembling breath, the same familiar softness, and even the tiny break that appeared whenever she fought back tears. Yet the words were filled with a cold amusement that made her blood turn to ice. She tightened her arms around Kaelen, shielding his face against her shoulder. “Nobody move,” Ethan warned, stepping in front of them with his sword raised. The second boy stood beside Lyra, staring at the darkness gathering beneath the broken platform. Mira backed toward the doorway, her face drained of color. Even Elara had stopped smiling. “You said the First Silence was trapped,” Ethan said, directing his words at Elara. “You said the prison was closed.” Elara’s fingers tightened around the crown shard. “It was.” A deep crack tor

  • Shattered Promises of the Alpha   The Mother Behind the Mask

“Your son has already chosen me.”Elara’s words struck Lyra harder than any physical blow. For a moment, she could only stare at the woman standing behind Kaelen, searching the familiar face for some sign of the mother she had lost. The same silver eyes. The same delicate features. The same small scar near her left eyebrow. Yet something about her smile was wrong, something cold and patient that made Lyra’s wolf recoil. “Let him go,” Lyra whispered. Elara tilted her head. “You have traveled a long way to tell me what to do, daughter. You have always believed that love gives you the right to claim what belongs to you.” “He doesn’t belong to you!” Ethan stepped forward, placing himself between Lyra and the crowned boy. “Kaelen is our son. Whatever illusion you have created around him, it ends now.” The boy tightened his grip on his sword. “You will not speak to my mother that way.” Ethan froze. It was a small sentence, spoken in a child’s voice, but it carried the terrible certainty of

  • Shattered Promises of the Alpha   The Heir Who Vanished

For several heartbeats, Lyra could not move. She stared at the silver message on the floor, reading the words again and again until they blurred before her eyes. The child is safe. The next time you see him, he will no longer be yours to save. Somewhere inside her, a terrible scream struggled to escape, but her throat had closed. Kaelen was gone. Her son, the little boy whose heartbeat had once been the only sound capable of calming her fears, had vanished while she was beneath the throne trying to save the world. “No.” The word came out as a whisper. Then she dropped to her knees and searched the chamber with frantic eyes, as though Kaelen might be hiding behind one of the broken pillars. “Kaelen!” Her voice cracked. “Kaelen, Mommy is here!” Ethan caught her before she could run toward the ruined entrance. His arms were trembling, and the desperation in his eyes matched the storm rising inside her. “I searched every room,” he said hoarsely. “The guards checked the corridors. Nobody s

  • Shattered Promises of the Alpha   The Sin That Buried a Mother

First Alpha remained on his knees, staring at the woman who had emerged from beneath the broken throne. Nobody spoke. Even the silver pillars seemed to have stopped shining, as though the ancient chamber itself feared what she might reveal. Lyra stood beside Ethan, her heart pounding so violently that she could barely hear the sound of her own breathing. The woman before her possessed her mother’s face, her mother’s voice, and the small scar near her eyebrow that Lyra remembered touching as a little girl. Yet something about her was different. Her silver-and-black eyes held a terrible age, and the darkness surrounding her moved like a living creature. “Mama?” Lyra whispered. The woman turned toward her, and her expression softened. “My darling girl.” Lyra took a hesitant step forward, but Ethan caught her hand. “Wait.” The woman noticed his movement and smiled sadly. “You have every reason to distrust me, Ethan Blackthorn. I would distrust myself if I had lived through what I have.” “

  • Shattered Promises of the Alpha   The Voice Beneath the Throne

“Come home, Lyra. I have waited long enough.”The voice drifted through the abyss, tender and familiar, carrying the warmth of a mother’s embrace and the sorrow of a thousand unanswered prayers. Lyra stopped on the staircase, her fingers tightening around Ethan’s arm. The black symbol beneath her heart pulsed, sending a strange warmth through her chest. For one dangerous moment, she forgot the collapsing prison, the ancient creature hunting them, and the child trembling in Ethan’s arms. All she could hear was her mother’s voice calling her home. “Mama?” she whispered. Ethan immediately turned toward her. “Lyra, don’t answer it.” She blinked as though waking from a dream. “But I heard her.” “You heard something using her voice.” “How can you be certain?” Ethan had no answer, and that frightened her more than any warning could have. Behind them, the Well of First Memory collapsed into the abyss. Silver water disappeared between the broken stones, while enormous chains snapped one after

  • Shattered Promises of the Alpha   The Price of a Mother’s Return

The masked figure’s offer hung above the shattered Well like a blade suspended over their heads. “Bring me the child, and I will return your mother to life.” Lyra could barely breathe. Her mother’s face had haunted her dreams for years, appearing in fragments of memory that faded whenever she tried to reach for them. She had imagined a thousand times what she would say if she ever received another chance to see her, to ask why she had left, and to understand the secrets that had shaped their family. Now that impossible chance stood before her, offering everything she had ever wanted in exchange for the one person she would never willingly surrender. Kaelen stirred against her chest, his tiny hands gripping her clothes. The black crown on his skin pulsed beneath the fading silver light. Ethan immediately stepped between his wife and the masked figure. “You will not touch my son.” The figure tilted its head. “I did not ask you, Alpha. I offered his mother a choice.” Ethan’s claws emerge
