Chapter 2

作者: Cool Husky
The moment Lillian saw that, her usual cold demeanor cracked, replaced by jealousy and madness. She rushed over and raised her hand to slap Vivienne. "You shameless homewrecker, you stole my husband and daughter!"

I was just about to intervene when Rosie beat me to it. She stepped in front of Vivienne to shield her. "Don't you dare hit my mom, you bad woman!"

Lillian froze. It took her a while to process what was happening before she demanded, her lips trembling, "You're actually protecting her? Have you forgotten that I'm your real mother?"

Rosie shook her head and let her tears fall freely. "You're not my mom! If you are, why didn't you acknowledge me for nine years? You only have room in your heart for Marcus. You never cared about me or Daddy."

Guilt flashed across Lillian's face, and she stammered, "T-that's not true. Marcus is… just a work friend of mine."

Rosie covered her ears and sobbed, "I don't believe you! If he's just a friend, why do you kiss and hug him? You've never even hugged or kissed me! You're not my mom!"

Lillian was stumped. Her face flushed crimson before losing all its color.

For the past nine years, she had done plenty of shameful things right in front of me and Rosie. Every time I asked her to come home and spend some time with Rosie, she would always bring her "work friend", Marcus Fisher, along.

Even when Rosie missed her and I took her to the office to see her, we would invariably run into Marcus there as well.

The couple acted as if no one else was around, casually touching each other in ways that were far too intimate. They didn't even hold back in front of Rosie.

Every time that happened, I would cover Rosie's eyes with my hand. Eventually, I stopped taking Rosie to see her, and I stopped asking her to come home.

However, Rosie was still just a child, after all, and she craved her mother's love. Every holiday or whenever there was an important school event, she asked to see Lillian.

Time and again, I pleaded with Lillian to keep her distance from Marcus for Rosie's sake. It was the least she could do if she restrained herself while she was around Rosie.

Lillian agreed every time. Yet, the moment Marcus got close to her, she would go back on her word. To please him, she never even allowed Rosie to call her "Mommy".

It was no wonder that Rosie had been left with such deep psychological scars from the way Lillian and Marcus had behaved.

I pulled Rosie into my arms, unwilling to let her recall those ugly, heartbreaking memories. Then, I looked up at Lillian coldly. "That's enough, Lillian! If you distress Rosie any further, I'll make your affair with Marcus public!"

My daughter was where I drew the line. If Lillian upset her again, I would show her no mercy, regardless of our past.

Lillian's eyes misted over as she looked at Rosie with a devastated expression on her face. "I'm sorry, Rosie. I didn't do enough in the past, and I know I hurt you. I'll change. Please forgive me and return to my side with Daddy, okay?"

Rosie turned her head away, refusing to look at her. "I already have a mom. I don't need you anymore!"

Lillian immediately broke down and took all her anger out on Vivienne. "This is all your fault, you shameless homewrecker! You must've driven a wedge between us. That must be the reason Rosie grew distant from me!"

Rolling up my sleeves, I wanted to stand up for Vivienne, but she stopped me and looked at Lillian with a mocking smile.

"Don't you get it, Lillian? All you've ever given Rosie is pain! Even if I had never entered the picture, she would have still been utterly disappointed in you and refused to acknowledge you as her mother!"

Lillian was about to retort when her phone suddenly rang in her bag. She pulled it out, took one look at the screen, and instantly panicked.

The second I took in her reaction, I knew who was on the line. "You still have the nerve to hang around? Aren't you afraid your little secret will leak?" I jeered.

Three years later, Vivienne and I were officially married, and she was pregnant with my child. On the day our baby was born, I waited outside the delivery room, consumed by anxiety. I had a feeling something big was about to happen that day.Everything clicked when I stumbled upon Marcus' post on X. He had been released from prison. His post read, "At last, I'm free! It's time to settle the score!"Given his petty nature and his inability to distinguish right from wrong, he was bound to seek revenge. I called Rosie and told her to stay at school and not to leave the gates until I got there to pick her up. Rosie agreed, but for some reason, half an hour later, she arrived at the hospital with Lillian. Lillian was holding a bouquet of flowers. "I specifically chose lilies for you. I hope you and Vivienne have a long, happy marriage and a beautiful life together."I accepted it and asked, "Do you know what day it is today?"Lillian nodded. "Don't worry. I already have someone ke

Lillian trembled in anger. Pointing at him, she screamed at the top of her lungs. "Get out! Get out right this instant!"Marcus smirked and made a face at her. "You want me to get out? If I leave, who's going to take care of you? You've got no family left. Even your ex-husband and your own daughter abandoned you!"Lillian was beside herself with regret. Her eyes went wide as she glared at Marcus. Then, she coughed up a mouthful of blood. However, she no longer had the strength to curse him out. Through gritted teeth, she forced out, "You scumbag!"The boy toy she had spoiled for a decade didn't care in the slightest whether she lived or died. To be honest, I had foreseen this day long ago. Back in the first year of my marriage to Lillian, Marcus had already begun to suspect the true nature of our relationship. He tested and provoked me time and again, even going so far as to send me intimate photos of himself and Lillian. How could a person who so easily exposed the privacy of

A week later, Lillian called me yet again. Her voice was faint, as if she might stop breathing at any moment. "I don't have much time left, Daniel. Can you bring Rosie to see me one last time?"I felt a flicker of compassion and promised her that I would ask for Rosie's opinion. After hanging up, I went online to do some digging, and that was when I finally pieced together what had happened.Marcus had been by Lillian's side the entire time, livestreaming everything she did. He claimed that he was the real victim, having been deceived by Lillian for years. According to him, he had unknowingly become the side piece and had been kept completely in the dark. He alleged that it was only after I released the explicit videos that he discovered she was married with a child. He further accused Lillian of abusing her power to take advantage of him for ten whole years. He even claimed that when Lillian attempted to slit her wrists out of shame, he was the kind soul who had saved her.As t

However, I didn't expect Lillian to get involved in my company. The day started like any other, but as soon as I arrived at work, the CEO, Mr. Pascall, called me into his office. "I'd like to introduce you to a business partner of ours. She's the CEO of Harmon Group."I forced a smile and greeted Lillian. "Hello, Ms. Harmon."Lillian went on and on about how our companies could work together and how much profit I could gain if I cooperated with her. I responded lukewarmly to all of that.Eventually, she couldn't take it anymore. "Daniel, is this how you treat your work?"I shook my head. "No, but this is how I treat you."Lillian ripped the contract to shreds and threatened me at the top of her lungs. "Believe it or not, I can make sure you never show your face in Marindale again!"I inched closer to her. "Believe it or not, I can make your compromising videos public."Gritting her teeth, she cursed at me and left.Mr. Pascall called me into his office for a private conversat

Rosie shook her head and ignored him.He continued, "Parents don't stop at one child, so you shouldn't be satisfied with just one mom, either."Rosie huddled in Vivienne's arms and proudly declared, "Mom told me that even if she has more kids, she'll still love me. So, I only need one mom. I don't need another bad one!"That immediately set Lillian off. Grasping Rosie's shoulders, she shook her and questioned her like a madwoman. "What did you just say? Did you just call me a bad mom?"Rosie firmly responded, "You're a bad mom!"Lillian raised her hand to strike her, but I stopped her. "What right do you have to hit my daughter? Ms. Harmon, you are overstepping your bounds!"Lillian looked at me in disbelief. "Your daughter? Isn't she also m—"She glanced at Marcus and corrected herself. "My goddaughter? Also, what did you just call me? Ms. Harmon? Since when did we become so estranged?"I snickered. "I have no intention of letting my daughter have any godmothers!" Then, I as

I never expected that, upon waking the next morning, Lillian would change her tune and refuse to acknowledge what happened. No matter how I explained myself, she adamantly insisted that I took advantage of her while she was drunk and that I was despicable and shameless. Brokenhearted, I had written her a promissory note and left the company. A month later, however, she showed up with a pregnancy report and demanded that I take responsibility. I was overjoyed, and I swiftly married her. Since she was my benefactor, I also agreed to her request when she asked to keep our marriage a secret. For ten long years, I kept that debt of gratitude in mind. No matter what mistakes she committed, I chose to put up with it.Day after day, I buried myself in work at her company. Every month, once I received my salary, I kept just enough for living expenses and transferred the rest entirely into her account. Because I worked so desperately hard, I paid off my debt to her in less than five y
