Chapter 3

Author: Candy Bean
Hayden acted the part of the peacemaker, saying, "You shouldn't get upset over something like this, Tiana. Nicholas is only acting out because he's jealous of how much you care for me. I'll take over Sabrina's upbringing and raise her properly once I take over as Sabrina's father."

Tiana scoffed. "If he hadn't deceived me into marrying him, you wouldn't have been so devastated and easily fooled into performing such hard labor over the years. It's something he owes you—the suffering he's facing now is nothing compared to what you suffered back then."

Tiana linked arms with Hayden and left. Hayden glanced back at me, looking contemptuous and smug.

I carried Sabrina upstairs to change her clothes, only to be stopped by the household staff.

"Ms. Sabell has designated this room for Mr. Henry because of the natural sunlight it receives. It would be considered bad luck to bring a dead body inside; Ms. Sabell and Mr. Brown wouldn't be happy about it."

It was obvious to anyone that Sabrina had already died, but Tiana, her mother, still believed she was faking it to deceive others.

Sabrina had starved to death in a dilapidated chapel, all because of Tiana's hollow lies. It was truly a cruel joke, as her mother had never once believed her.

I hadn't brought the new clothes I bought for Sabrina to her room yet, so I changed her into them where we were. I finally held the urn containing Sabrina's ashes, which the employees handed to me following a night of cremation at the crematorium.

I had planned to take Sabrina's ashes away to lay her to rest alongside my parents, but the thought of seeing Natalie stopped me; after all, I had chosen love over everything else and had disappointed her deeply.

I had just left the crematorium when Tiana called. I ignored the call, but she immediately called again. I finally picked it up, only to hear her snapping on the other end of the line. "If you aren't here within the hour, I'm flushing that emerald ring down the toilet."

I cried out in despair, yelling, "That is a keepsake from my mother!"

I had just returned home when I spotted Tiana and Hayden messing around on the couch. Hayden's hand was inside her top as he rested his head on her shoulder, flushing and panting. "You should stop right now, Tiana. Nicholas might get jealous. He hasn't returned all night; who knows where he went."

Tiana's gaze darkened as she kissed his earlobe. "Why bother with him? It looks like I'm not charming enough since you even think about him."

Hayden struck her shoulder lightly in a flirtatious manner. "You're so annoying."

I gazed at them calmly, my eyes devoid of any emotion. "Where is my mother's keepsake?"

Tiana stopped what she was doing and sneered. "I've made it into a pendant for Hayden; after all, your things are only fit to be stepped on.

"Go bring Sabrina over right now. Her prayers were deemed insincere, so she must go back to the chapel to kneel for another seven days. I'll have someone keep an eye on her to ensure she doesn't eat anything."

I could no longer hold back my emotions. I slapped Tiana across the face and yelled, "You monster! You've already killed Sabrina! I'm literally holding her ashes right now!"

Tiana was momentarily stunned. She then grabbed the urn and smashed it onto the floor. "How could someone die from a mere seven-day fast? Do you really take me for a fool? She's not even my biological daughter! She is a bastard girl being swapped since birth!

"I witnessed you and that woman getting into a car together three months ago, acting all intimate. You're just trying to use this prayer thing as an excuse to fake her death and also hide your affair! You'd better not even think about it, Nicholas!"

Sabrina's ashes were scattered everywhere, only to be mercilessly trampled under Tiana's feet.

That woman was actually Natalie, my sister. I had cast aside my pride to ask her—despite her disappointment in me—to help Tiana secure the piece of land in the eastern part of the city. I only did it because I didn't want Tiana to stay up at night worrying about the whole thing.

I reached down with trembling hands to scoop the remains back into the urn. I then let out a hollow, mocking laugh. "I've never deceived you, Tiana! That woman was my sister!"

Tiana narrowed her eyes for a moment before she broke into laughter. "You're still lying to me, huh? You're an orphan, Nicholas!

"Hayden and I are getting married next month. He'll share the same status as you, and you'll need to look after him. Henry is my child with Hayden, so you are to treat him as your own son from here on out."

During Tiana's first day of begging in Serenstone, a former business rival she had once cheated out of a project came to see her. Tiana's guard picked up some spoiled food from the dirt and forced it into her mouth, saying, "You should stop being so picky since someone was kind enough to give you food. Go on, eat it up."Tiana's former friend dropped by to visit her as well. She threw the food her friend bought onto the floor, yelling, "I don't need your sympathy!"Her friend snapped angrily, "I gave you food because I felt sorry for you! Is this how you repay someone's kindness? You deserve to end up broke and begging on the streets! You'll be begging for the rest of your life in this state, and perhaps when you come crawling to me when you're at death's door, I'll buy you something to eat."Tiana shrieked in a fit of rage, "Get the hell out of here! I don't want anyone's charity!"Tiana's blood soaked through the bandages of her wound, but there was always someone there to dress

Those household staff left for fear of being dragged down by the Sabell family, leaving only Tiana and Hayden in the massive villa.Tiana kneeled in the center of the living room, repeatedly striking her head with her fists. She was covered in blood as she muttered to herself, "I deserve all of this. I miss you so much, Nicholas. I miss the life I had with you and Sabrina—we were so happy back then."Upon hearing that, I couldn't help but recall the past as well. Sabrina was a lively child; whenever Tiana came home from work, she would rush into her mother's arms to be held.I was busy making soup and a batch of cupcakes in the kitchen. Tiana held Sabrina as she leaned in the doorway, watching me with a grin. "What’s on the menu today? I seem to be in for a treat tonight!"Sabrina wrapped her arms around her neck, exclaiming, "I helped out too! I helped with making the cupcakes!"Tiana gathered her into an embrace and kissed her cheek. "How can my darling daughter be so amazing!"

I sat in the car while Tiana chased after us, limping behind. She still kept her hand stretched out toward me after falling to the ground.Natalie had her men install hidden cameras at the Sabell residence. She handed me a tablet, saying, "How pathetic of them, tearing each other apart like a bunch of animals. I'll pull all our investments from Sabell Group—bankruptcy is just the start of Tiana's punishment."I took the tablet and noticed Tiana slashing at Hayden with a knife on the screen, their blood and the rainwater mixing as it pooled on the ground.Hayden cried and begged for mercy. "Please let me go, Tiana! I only did those things because I loved you deeply! Do our three years together mean nothing to you? Please don't kill me, Tiana!"Tiana grabbed his face tightly and stabbed him in the chest. "How dare you bring up our past! I was devoted to you, but you stole our company's trade secrets for money! What did I do to deserve this? You betrayed me before this, and now you're

It was then that the bodyguards dragged a bloody figure from the car. It was Janine Hill, the driver, who had initially accused me of hiring her to run over Tiana. She slumped on the ground and pointed a bloody finger at Hayden, yelling, "He's the one who bribed me to lie to you once I got out of prison! He's the one who hired me to kill Tiana!"He stole Sabell Group's trade secrets to pay his debts after the Brown family went under. He almost ruined Sabell Group and tried to have Tiana killed to cover his tracks. He wasn't even abducted in the first place—it was actually the work of his own debt collectors."He discovered that Sabell Group was thriving again after he escaped the mountains and wanted a piece of that lifestyle. He was surprised at how easily Tiana believed his lies until she was wrapped around his finger."Henry isn't even Tiana's child. I blackmailed Hayden into sleeping with me by threatening to reveal his attempt on Tiana's life. He told me to have the baby afte

Hayden walked up to me with an arrogant air and stated softly, "Your fear won't save you now, Nicholas. Your daughter climbed six thousand stone steps on her knees, prostrating herself until the bone showed, only to die of hunger. I'll make your death even more agonizing than hers!"He then reached out for the gun in Natalie's hand, saying, "Your prop looks quite convincing."Natalie raised her hand and pulled the trigger, leaving a streak of blood to appear across Hayden's cheek.Hayden stared in sheer horror, his knees buckling beneath him. He recoiled in a shuddering heap, backing away. "It's actually a real gun. How can this be? How could Nicholas possibly be the heir of the Zeller family in Brookvale?"Tiana grabbed Gina's sleeve, her voice trembling while asking, "Why was I kept in the dark about Nicholas being the one who invested in Sadell Group? Is Sabrina really my biological daughter? What about that paternity test, then?"Gina repeatedly slapped Tiana across the face,

Tiana fell to her knees, looking defeated. It was then that someone pointed a gun at the center of her forehead and snarled, "You deserve to die!"I looked up to see Natalie standing there. I immediately burst into tears as I choked out, "I truly regret everything now, Natalie."Those present were forced to kneel on their knees; the shaman looked on in fear at the overwhelming bodyguards and the line of luxury cars outside. She tried to say something, but Hayden's threatening expression immediately silenced her.Natalie gently supported me as I stood up. She looked at my injuries and stated firmly, "I'll take you to the hospital now. I'll make sure they suffer for this a thousandfold. How dare they lay a hand on the heir of the Zeller family from Brookvale! They don't have enough lives to pay for what they've done!"I held her hand down and shook my head, saying, "I'm fine—it's only a superficial wound."Natalie hugged me tightly, her tone filled with sorrow while saying, "I've w
