Chapter 5

Author: Nouveau Riche 16
I was strangely silent the next few days, refusing to talk while also staying well away from Sena, hiding in my corner and feeling my ghost thinning.

Once I faded, I would truly be gone…

But one day, Sena suddenly entered a room, taking an urn from the highest shelf.

It was my ashes, which she had kept there in a quiet corner for four years, along with her thoughts of me.

But now, she was carrying it out of the house.

That was when she turned and walked up to me with a cool look. "Come with me, Jon."

I was stunned, unsure as to what she was up to.

But there was nothing to lose at this point anyway, not to mention that I couldn't get too far away from her.

As such, I quietly floated behind her, following her out of the mansion.

Before she got into her car, Yves came rushing out of the house.

Seeing the black box in Sena's hand, he asked in curiosity, "Where are you going?"

Sena paused, her expression softening as she turned to him. "Just getting rid of something that shouldn't be here."

She was looking at Yves as she said that, but I had the feeling she meant me.

I clenched my fists and turned away—that was what she thought of me? A burden?

Yves nodded and gave her a peck on her head, smiling as he said, "Make it quick. Let's have dinner together."

"Okay," Sena replied, giving him a brief hug before getting into her car.

I turned away again, pretending I saw nothing.

Soon, the car sped to a graveyard far outside the city, and just seeing the gravestones stretching across the hill gave me a foreboding feeling.

To no surprise, Sena picked up the urn containing my ashes and started climbing the hill, eventually stopping under a huge tree.

A new gravestone was already erected and had my photo on it, and beneath was an inion that read: Here lies Jon Whig.

Sena dropped to a crouch and gently put the urn into the hole, while I stared at everything unfolding, my mind blank.

I didn't get it.

She had always been in denial of my death, so when did she arrange this?

Many had advised her to bury me, but she would persistently refuse, no matter who it was.

She even carried the urn around and held it in her sleep for a month, as if someone would steal it and bury it.

She kept saying that I wasn't dead—that I was just sleeping, so she had to carry me around.

Yet now she'd arranged a grave for me and placed my ashes inside herself.

For a split second, her expression softened.

It caught me off guard, as I thought I was seeing the Sena from four years ago, who would be worried sick if I caught a cold.

That was when she stood up, dusting her fingers before turning to me. "I've consulted a fortune teller, and he recommended this place. It's peaceful, with the hills behind it and water in front."

I watched her in silence as she paused, lowering her eyes.

Then, she said quietly, "Yves is suffering from insomnia and nightmares, and his health is suffering from that."

I see—so it was about Yves again.

Because her current lover was feeling uncomfortable, she must drive me far away from their world.

At that moment, the man in that photo who was smiling so warmly was no more than a joke to her.

Sena then looked up, weariness showing in her eyes. "The fortune teller also said that you'll bring bad luck if you stay, building up gloom over the living. This is where you should be buried, and it's time you rest after so long."

As I smiled wryly at her in turn, I felt like my heart hurt so much that it would be torn asunder.

Even then, I refused to let her see it, even if she seemingly really didn't want to see me again.

As she stared at me silently and coolly, she eventually asked softly, "Can you leave now?"

The question was a knife that sliced through all the delusions I stubbornly kept over four years.

It was true that I shouldn't stay sentimental anymore—this place was peaceful and beautiful.

Yves wasn't here. Once Sena left, there would be no one here to remind me that she no longer loved me.

For us, it'd be a good thing if I rested here forever.

Nodding, my tears of blood flowed gruesomely again down my cheeks.

"Yeah. I'm leaving."

Just as I finished, my ghost felt even lighter as I started to fade from my toes, turning into countless tiny points of light that drifted through the air.

Even as my vision blurred a second before I faded away completely, I thought I saw a single tear fall from Sena's usually icy eyes.

But at the very next moment, I couldn't see anymore.

Everything was dark, as stillness consumed my world.

I couldn't push him away at all, only feeling utterly enfeebled after a few attempts, my vision blurring. That was when I remembered Sena again.I couldn't help smiling wryly before breathing a long sigh.Perhaps fate simply decided we weren't meant for each other, or we wouldn't have this come between us after everything we'd been through. But this was fine—I had at least unmasked the murderer, and Sena would be safe.Just as my consciousness blurred and I was about to close my eyes and pass out, Sena snapped behind me, "What are you doing?!""Oof!"She pulled him off me, and he cried out as he fell heavily to the floor. As he clutched his stomach and stared at Sena in shock, Sena had carefully taken me in her arms.I was hacking violently as I could vaguely feel her trembling as she said, "I'm sorry I was late. This place is just too far and isolated, and I couldn't reach it even with a tracker and allowed you to get hurt…"It really felt like she was terrified at the idea

As Cid spoke, he whipped out a lighter from his pocket, while I'd managed to cut through the rope around my wrists with the small knife hidden in my pocket. Then, just before he dropped the lighter on me, I leaped toward Cid.He was caught off guard as he didn't expect me to fight back and slammed heavily on the floor.Still, I tried to grab the lighter first—with gasoline everywhere, I'd be dead as soon as it ignited.I really loved being alive because it wasn't easy for me to come back to life, so I refused to let myself get hurt.Still, Cid was laughing in excitement as he quickly caught on. "You're that afraid of dying? Well, what if you have to choose? Your life or Sena's?"Though confused, I was still holding his wrists firmly while glaring into his eyes. "What are you talking about?"Cid smirked in disdain as he calmly spoke. "Did you think I wouldn't have a backup plan, having served Sena for years? Yes, your soul lingered with her for a long time after you died, even re

I had no idea how long had passed when I opened my eyes and found myself in an abandoned warehouse. My head felt muddled as I tried to stand, only to realize my hands were bound.Even as I panicked and tried to free myself, the warehouse door opened with a creak. It was Cid, with a can of gasoline in hand which he poured on the floor. He glanced at me with contempt as he walked."I don't get it… It's like Ms. Stilton's tastes in men keep getting worse. Heaven knows how much money I had to spend to kill the first one in that accident. I had four years of peace after, but another showed up before I knew it."I'm surprised threats actually worked with that one, and he's such a coward that he fled right away… But as soon as I turned around, you came along like a complete ignoramus."Even as he kept rambling on, his eyes always glowed whenever Sena was mentioned. After emptying the entire can of gasoline, he wheeled on me and seized my collar. "I sent you that text, but it's like yo

Even as I spaced out, Sena snapped angrily, "How dare he do it right in front of me and still manage to keep it completely under wraps!"I squeezed her hand and somberly told her about my theory. "I'm guessing it's someone in the house. Who else could have found out about us so quickly and had such easy access to me?"Sena looked like she was getting a little brash but calmed down after what I said. She had been wondering who could have covered their tracks so well and stayed virtually undetected, but the dots would really connect if my theory was right. She closed her eyes, groaning, "My head's a mess, and I don't even know where to begin…"I smiled. "I have a way that just might draw him out."Sena looked at me, perplexed, but I simply kept my confident smile. After getting home, I held her by her waist as I exclaimed in delight, "We can finally be together. Let's get married in five days, okay?"Sena stood on her toes to give me a brief kiss. "Yeah. I'll have everyone make t

I frowned, my fingers stiffening around my phone as I showed her my screen.[Stay away from Sena, or you'll regret it!]It was a short line, but it still sent a chill down my spine nonetheless."It's only our second day back together, and someone already knows," I said. Sena clenched her fists, her expression darkening. "Whoever's behind this is more dangerous than we thought. And now they dare to threaten you."I pursed my lips, hesitant. "Well, what should we do?"Preventative measures just didn't cover everything with our adversary lurking in the shadows, and it would take time to uncover their identity.Sena thought about it solemnly and sat beside me, leaning into my arms. "I did think of something, but I'm not sure if it would work. Just give me a few days to set it up."I smiled and nodded, knowing that she'd never expose me to danger. "Sure. Your wish is my command."After drinking some milk before sleep, I lay in bed.Although I wanted to speak some more with Sena,

Sena seemed hesitant and frowned a little. "But it wasn't easy to get you back. That's why I want to tell everyone that I've got you back right now!"I smiled wryly in turn and squeezed her hand—she was only this childish when it was just me. "Don't worry about it. We will have all the chances to do so, but right now, there are more pressing matters at hand."She nodded repeatedly. "You're right. As long as we're together, everyone will find out eventually."-After freshening up in the morning, Sena beckoned for me to get into her car.I shook my head. "I should take a cab. Going to work together is way too conspicuous, or did you forget what you promised me?"Sena sighed in disappointment. "Alright, I made a promise, and I will fulfill it. But don't worry, my people will find the truth soon enough—you won't have to wait that long."I smiled and nodded. "I know."Before she left, Sena leaned in to kiss my cheek and walked briskly outside.I stayed in my chair, sighing softly
