Elena’s POV

That night, I go home feeling… weirdly uplifted.

I don’t know if it’s because I have a solution for the party and how to escape the scrutiny I know I will receive, or the fact that I agreed to a date with Alexander. All I know is that after this whole day—which is utter disaster in every way imaginable—I came out at the other end not feeling like a total wreck.

My children are already brought home, and they’re waiting for me in the living room.

Elena’s POVThat night, I go home feeling… weirdly uplifted.I don’t know if it’s because I have a solution for the party and how to escape the scrutiny I know I will receive, or the fact that I agreed to a date with Alexander. All I know is that after this whole day—which is utter disaster in every way imaginable—I came out at the other end not feeling like a total wreck. My children are already brought home, and they’re waiting for me in the living room.“Mommy!” they both yell, running up to my arms as I crouch to hug them.I close my eyes, burying my face between them and peppering them with kisses. God, they’re so warm. So perfect. I can’t stand the thought of being taken away from them. Not by anyone, not even death. And it only now sinks in how close I got.I start to cry. I can’t help it. I held it together in front of Tristan and his parents, even Alexander. But seeing my children now makes me realize how precarious everything is. I almost got shot. And God knows where that b

Elena’s POV“What’s up with that guy?” Alexander asks as soon as Tristan leaves. “You’d think he’d be grateful now that I don’t consider him an enemy even though I’m pretty sure he’d jump at my throat at the first chance he gets.”It’s not strange for Tristan to leave that way.I already felt awkwardness from him when his parents asked me to come to their anniversary party with my children. Now that I think about it, I have no idea why I said yes.Now I’m bound to a commitment I know I shouldn’t have made.“It’s because his parents invited me to their anniversary party,” I explain as I fluff his pillows. “His parents always liked me, and now they’re happy to see that I’m back. They want to see my kids too.”Alexander pauses, only wincing slightly when I push him back on the bed. “That’s… a tough position to be in. Especially with your plans getting derailed.”I freeze. “What plans?”He stares at me like he expects me to be kidding. “Your plans to leave. And don’t lie about it—your chi

Tristan’s POVBroken glass everywhere. The doors have not only been unlocked—they’ve been torn down. My desk is a mess. Pieces of paper. Folders. Files. Overturned chairs.I want to believe that this is some sort of a robbery. But I knew immediately the moment I entered that it’s not like that at all, because it’s not hard to miss the only thing that’s missing. My computer. The entire thing has been taken. It’s not broken lying on the floor. It’s gone. Even the cord that connects it to power has been taken, which means that whoever got it just scooped the entire thing up and left with it.“I’m so sorry, Mr. Blake,” my late-night security says. He pinches his own hands like he can’t believe what just happened. “I… I didn’t get the alert until I heard a commotion upstairs. By the time I got here, everything has already been messed up. I didn’t see anyone go in or come out. I don’t know how any of this happened! I’m so sorry!”He starts to shake, but I can’t bring myself to feel sorry fo

Tristan’s POVMy ears start to ring just hearing that from my mother. What the hell is she trying to do?Elena looks uncomfortable now. “I don’t like exposing them to gatherings that are meant for adults.”“It’s only for one night,” Mom insists. “It’s a big party, and a lot of our friends are invited. I can tell them to bring their kids and grandkids. It will be fun for your children, I promise.”Opening and closing her mouth like a fish out of water, Elena tries hard to answer. But then, the door opens and the doctor comes out. “Miss Harrington?”Elena, looking relieved at the distraction, immediately gets away to talk to the doctor. Which gives me plenty of time to grab my mom by the arm and pull her to the side. “What the fuck are you thinking?”“Don’t you dare talk to your mother like that!” Dad barks at me.I just sigh. “Listen. I just need to understand why the hell you both thought it’s a good idea for Elena to be there. And you’re not even contented just dragging her there. Yo

Elena’s POV“Alexander!”My scream echoes in my ringing ears. Time slows down, almost sputtering to a halt, and as I rush towards Alexander, it feels as though my limbs are traveling through amber. Slugging. Unable to reach him in time.Grace gasps. I know she didn’t mean to do it. She’s out for me.And that’s why she aims again.“I should’ve shot you when I had the chance!” she grits out, cocking the gun once more. But this time, someone springs out of the kitchen doors. The figure tackles the man next to Grace, distracting her and knocking him out with one solid punch. Grace backs off, then I see who it is.Tristan.He gets up and snatches the gun right of Grace’s hand, kicking it out of her reach. She tries to run, but he grabs her, pushing her down on the floor even as she starts struggling.I kneel next to Alexander, cradling his head on my lap. His side is bleeding, the red stain growing on his cashmere shirt. I can see blood pooling from under him.“Alexander,” I whisper, tears

  • She Returned with Genius Babies, He Regretted   Chapter 59

Tristan’s POVThere’s something wrong.I can feel it in my bones. As soon as Elena turned around and said to Alexander, “I’m just going to take care of something. The kids should stay here with you,” I immediately felt that something is off.I have known Elena quite well in our years of being married, and I have come to recognize when she’s hiding something. Or when she’s thinking about doing something that she doesn’t want anyone to find out about. There’s always that look in her eyes, and I saw that when she left.I pace the floor now, unable to leave the office even though I’m fully aware of Alexander watching me.“You can leave, you know,” he suddenly says, that same old smirk back on his face. “I don’t know why you’re still here.”“You mean you don’t feel it?” I ask. “Something is wrong. I feel like Elena went after Grace to talk to her herself.”Alexander stiffens. “That’s bad.”“I know,” I mutter. Then a decision forms in my mind. “I’m going to follow her. She can’t have gone t
