Chapter 2

Author: Cocojam
"Are you crazy? You dare to ignore me?" she screamed.

"Do you know who my brother is? Do you know what he does to his enemies?"

My voice was flat. "Oh? So what?"

Cora let out a scornful laugh.

"You really don't get it, do you? No wonder you're just a grunt."

"Look, I'm treating my brother and his family to dinner in the Silver Moon territory tonight. To thank him for getting me this position."

"If you had any sense, you'd get over here right now, pay for our dinner, and then drive us all home. It'll leave a good impression on my brother."

"You keep us happy, and I might put in a good word for you. One word from him, and he can get you promoted from the bottom floor to a core department!"

What a nice little scheme.

So it wasn't just about free ore.

She wanted me to be the fool who paid for her family's dinner, too?

I paused, testing her.

"You're sure? One word from your brother and I get a promotion?"

The absurdity of it was staggering.

Jett was a Delta from a vassal pack.

He couldn't even approve a lunch order here, let alone a promotion.

In the Red Rock Pack, the rules were strict: mid-level appointments needed a Beta's approval, core positions required a vote from the Alpha Council, and the final approval for all of it landed on my father's desk, requiring the Alpha's signature.

But Cora answered without hesitation.

"Of course."

"Last month, some old geologist from the Stardust Mine argued with my brother, and just like that, he was transferred to the abandoned mines. Six years he'd served the Red Rock Pack. And he was gone without a whisper."

"So don't be an idiot. You have no idea how much power my brother has in this pack."

I fell silent for a moment.

I suddenly remembered. Last month, a skilled, senior member was indeed transferred from geological survey to a high-risk abandoned mine.

I'd thought it was strange at the time. I even asked why such a capable veteran would want to go somewhere so dangerous.

The Beta told me the member had requested the transfer himself.

I figured he was just looking for a challenge, so I signed off on it.

I never imagined Cora's brother was behind it.

I took a deep breath. "Wow," I said slowly. "Your brother really knows how to pull strings in this pack."

Cora missed my sarcasm completely. She was too busy bragging.

"You're just figuring that out?"

"My brother's plan is to place our Silver Moon Pack members into all of your key departments. Soon, the entire Red Rock Pack will be ours to control!"

What a Delta.

Ambitious, I'll give him that.

A small smile touched my lips. "And he's not afraid the Alpha will find out?"

Cora scoffed, a smug look on her face. "Oh, the great Red Rock Alpha? My brother says his power is exactly what makes him blind. He's busy managing an empire across North Land. He has neither the time nor the interest to notice what happens in one dusty corner of his territory."

"As long as the Alpha isn't here, my brother can do whatever he wants!"

I smiled.

It was true, my father managed over a dozen packs. But their operations were stable. He rarely had to intervene outside of major decisions.

This Stardust Mine, on the other hand… it was once the most promising mine in the Alliance, but its performance had been dismal for years.

That's why I'd been spending all my time here, inspecting the veins, checking the trade markets, trying to figure out what the hell was wrong.

Now, I finally knew.

So that was it. We had hyenas in our den. And they had a death wish.

The blood drained from Rhys’s face. But he was a survivor. Two decades of cunning slammed the panic down. He had one last lie to tell."Princess, what are you talking about? I am loyal to this pack. I have never done anything to betray it!""Is that so?" I picked up another file from the table."Then explain this." I tossed the records before him. "Half of Jett's offshore money—sixteen million dollars—was funneled into a 'charity' run by your mate."Rhys started to tremble when he saw the numbers. "That... that's a coincidence! My mate's business is completely legitimate!""A coincidence?" I sneered. "Rhys, do you take me for an idiot?""Every time Jett made a transfer, you approved one of his illicit requests the very next day. It's all here. The timestamps match up perfectly."I clapped my hands. The side door opened. The elders and core members filed in.They had seen everything. When Rhys saw them, the last bit of color drained from his face. All the elders stared at him, their e

Public opinion flipped in an instant, but that wasn't enough. I wanted to burn every bridge Jett and Cora had.The third part of the announcement was the final nail in their coffin.A security video started to play. It showed Cora on the same day she posted her "homeless and beaten" video. She was at the city's most luxurious mall, dressed in designer clothes and carrying a limited-edition handbag. She spent two hundred thousand dollars in a jewelry store without blinking. The salesperson was fawning over her, showing her all the most expensive pieces. Cora was laughing and preening. She didn't look "oppressed" at all.But the real kicker was next.Another video showed Jett in a makeup studio. A professional artist was painting fake bruises on his body."Does this look pathetic enough?" the artist asked."Go heavier," Jett directed. "I want people to feel sorry for me.""Remember, the bruises have to look like I got beat up."After those two videos, the internet exploded. It was

Three days passed. Cora's videos hit twenty million views.Worse, several major external partners announced they were suspending cooperation."Starlight Mining Group has issued a statement, pausing all projects with us.""The Northern Commerce Guild said they're re-evaluating our partnership.""Even the Iron Claw Pack is considering terminating their ore purchasing agreement."In the conference room, Rhys stood with a stack of notifications from our partners, his face grim."Princess, do you see now? This is getting out of control!"He slammed the files on the table, his voice more urgent than before. "We have to stop the internal audit! Right now, saving our reputation is what matters!"Rhys, who had always been so composed, was finally showing cracks. I knew then that the audit team must have found something that made him sweat."Stop the audit?" I asked. "And then what?""It's simple," Rhys insisted, his voice sharp with urgency. "We destroy the records. We pay Jett off. This all go

I nodded. "There's someone else behind this. Jett was just a pawn. The real hand moving the pieces is still hidden in the shadows."I knew Rhys was involved. But I wasn't sure if he had an even bigger backer. I needed him to let his guard down so I could expose them all.Eleven o'clock at night. I was in my room, reviewing the Stardust Mining ledgers. The sheer amount of faked resource losses over five years was staggering.Tap. Tap. Tap.A faint sound came from the balcony window. I looked up and almost gagged.Cora was kneeling outside, her clothes in disarray, her face stained with tears.I slid the window open. "You're not dead yet?""Princess!" Cora's voice was raw from crying. "Please, take back your order! The Silver Moon Alpha has put a kill order on us! My brother... I don't even know if he's alive!"She actually climbed through the window and knelt at my feet."Please, give us a chance to live! We know we were wrong!"I stared at her coldly. "And?"Cora suddenly bowed her hea

I picked up the file from the table, my voice ringing out clearly in the hall."A preliminary investigation shows that Jett conspired with internal personnel to embezzle resources by faking mining losses. The amount exceeds eight million dollars. He is also suspected of arranging the murder of Orion, a decorated member of this pack who refused to falsify records."Jett’s face was ashen. He shook his head wildly. "No! I didn't embezzle anything!"I ignored his pathetic denials. "Effective immediately," I declared, "the Red Rock Pack severs all trade with the Silver Moon Pack. We are also revoking all resource quotas provided to them by the mining headquarters."The hall erupted. Cutting off trade meant the Silver Moon Pack would lose its largest source of income.Jett was frantic. He crawled towards Alpha Gerard. "Alpha, please! Have mercy! I can pay it back! I can change! Please don't cut off trade! The Silver Moon Pack has thousands of members to feed!"Alpha Gerard sat motionless, hi

Inside the conference hall, the entire Red Rock leadership was assembled. The pack's core commanders flanked them. The representatives from vassal packs were in the back.Alpha Gerard sat at the head of the table and gestured for me to lead the meeting.I glanced at Jett and Cora, who had just taken their seats. They looked completely relaxed now. Cora was even fixing her hair, planning to "accidentally" run into my father later. Jett was leaning back in his chair, a smug look on his face. They thought the danger was over.So naive.I walked to the podium. No pleasantries."I've called this emergency meeting because of a serious corruption problem."I tapped the console. The main screen flashed to life. Security footage filled the display. In the video, Jett’s sharp claws were extended as he threatened me. "Last chance. Six hundred and fifty thousand. Yes or no?"The hall fell silent.Every eye went from the screen to Jett.Jett, who had just gotten comfortable, froze solid. T
