Chapter Thirty Nine

RIVER

We're all sitting at our usual table.  It's covered in fresh beer bottles and drinks for Casey and Carmen.

I tip my beer back as Carmen scowls at me.  Shooting daggers through me.

I arch a brow.  "You gonna stare at me all night?"  

"You know you're an ass, right?"  Carmen snapped.

I just blink at her.  Zeke pulls her into him.  "Babe.  I told you.  It had to happen."

"No it didn't."  She eyed me with her brow furrowed.  "Emily was good for you.  How could you just toss her away like that?"

I roll my eyes.  "I didn't just toss her away.  It's complicated...."  

'Sure....complicated."  She scoffs.

Zeke gives her a little shake.  "Come on.  Don't ruin the night, ok.  Why don't you and Casey go dance?"

She turns to Zeke.  "Gladly."  She gives him a kiss.  As she passes me, she jabs me.  "
