The crowd screamed, and Shannon grabbed for Brandon, who tried to turn and help his friend. Shannon fought to keep him close as blood poured from Derek’s lips. The omega ripped the blade from his back and slipped off her mask as she stepped in front of him. “What did you always say to me? Keep your eyes open while I stuff you, kitten.” Lynn grabbed his face. “I wouldn’t want you to miss anything.” She grinned as she slammed the blade into his chest.

Derek coughed blood as he pulled his face out of her grip. “You…stupid…bitch.” He coughed again and grabbed for the knife. But Lynn was too quick. She ripped it from his chest and slammed it into his stomach. “I’m going to kill you.” He laughed as blood dripped from his lips. “You think this is your revenge…but in reality this is your funeral.”

Everyone surged to their feet. The omegas, the real ones, took off. Low-ranked, weak wolves screamed and took off running too. But the men and women who were higher ranked all converged on Lynn. Sh

Lynn’s face was triumphant. Brandon screamed. “Derek!” But he was still frozen. Derek himself was stuck on his knees, eyes open but glossy. Blood still trickled from his wounds, but that was more from gravity than it was from his heart. Because his heart was silent. “No!” Brandon screamed again, but Lynn just laughed. “You stupid bitch, I’ll kill you myself. He didn’t deserve to die.”“He deserved every fucking slice.” She screamed back. “Every time he touched me, cut me, burned me. I kept count. I kept track of every fucking breath he breathed against my neck. He got lucky that I was stuck like this before I had finished.”Brandon’s eyes burned as he opened his mouth but Garith screamed. “Enough.” He waved his hands towards me, and I stepped up next to him. “Good girl.” He opened the toolkit in my hand and smiled. “You wouldn’t mind holding this for me, would ya, darling?” He smiled as if he were asking, but I felt the weak command he put into his words.Rowan snorted. “You did all o

Garith just turned back to Rowan. “Now…what are we going to do with you?”Verity smirked as she slid into Rowan’s lap. “There now…doesn’t that feel better? You could have had me, you know…if you had just played ball, we could have kept you alive.” She patted his cheek, ignoring his growl. “You are so big and strong, aren’t ya?” She laughed as she stood and then swung. Her slap echoed throughout the makeshift room. “Verity, that’s enough.”“Actually, I don’t think it is. You don’t know what he fucking did to me. How fucking embarrassing it’s been.” She slapped Rowan again. Both of my wolves started to growl, low and menacing. You two are making it hard to keep my composure. I can manage the magic for a minute. Go see your mate and calm down. I sent them both to Rowan. They needed to see Erubus was fine, and I needed a minute to collect my fraying nerves so that when they escalated, as I knew the father and daughter pair would, I wouldn’t blow our cover. Lynn laughed, causing Verity

“Derek!” Brandon tried to run to him, but Garith just laughed. “Are you stupid, boy? Or do you not listen? Everyone is frozen.” Garith shook his head. “Save him!” Brandon screamed his frustration at losing his friend, but Garith just chuckled. “No.”“No?” Brandon’s face fell for a second. “What do you mean, no?”Garith lifted a shoulder. “Well…No is a word people use when they are denying a request. Which is what I am doing.”“But why?” Brandon sounded like a little boy. “Well. There are a few reasons. The first is that he is too far gone to save. The second is that he brought this on himself. He tortured this girl; it’s obvious. While I love a good torture session, he made the mistake of letting her live.” He leaned down to look Derek in the face again. “If you torture someone to the point their mind shatters, like this girl, then kill the person. Or else you end up here if you aren’t lucky. And last, I think this is an excellent lesson for you to learn, boy.” Garith turned to Br

The priestess dropped her hands and sat back. “Both of you will turn to each other and speak from your heart. Tell each other about your devotion, and your deepest feelings for each other. The goddess will be listening, and whatever you say will carry weight in her decision here today.”Shannon was already turning to face Brandon fully. She grabbed his hands and stared up at his face. “I’ll go first.” She glanced at the priestess, who just nodded. Shannon smiled, and everyone quieted to listen to their claims of devotion. “I remember my first day coming to the pack house. It was before I was to start at school. The only wolves I knew were my dad and Ainsley.” She sighed. “I was nervous about meeting the alpha. But then my dad brought me into Alpha’s Vince’s office, and you were there.” She blushed. “You were so serious, and wouldn’t even look at me, but I knew that day that I was going to mate with you.” She laughed as she shook her head. “It was a silly thought, but every year in scho

The priestess lit the brazier behind her and turned back to the couple on their knees. “I call to the goddess in her glory. We need your wisdom, and your blessing on the pairing I have before me.” She raised her hands and tilted her face up to the moon. “Mother of all, we call to thee. Come, bless this pairing. One was forsaken, their mate bond shattered. One passed over, their mate bond never found.” She looked back down at the pair. “They have chosen each other and forsaken all others.” Derek snorted a little, earning a glare from the priestess herself. He raised his hands and mouthed a quick sorry before she turned back to the pair. “As your loyal servants, we know your wisdom in our pairings, and beg your lenience and understanding with the two before me.” She turned back to the brazier and lifted a bowl of water from beside it. She shuffled to Brandon and knelt in front of him first. She held out her hand and waited. Brandon looked confused. “What?”The priestess smiled, but I c
