Chapter 184

Author: Sienna Yates
Sharon didn’t so much as flinch under Nate’s glare.

“So, Nate,” she said calmly, “have you made up your mind?”

In the crowd, quite a few people had business ties with Nate’s family—and just as many came from rival families.

Nate had never been known for watching his mouth. He’d offended more people than he could remember. If he backed out of his bet now, the whole thing would get blown out of proportion. It could even damage his family’s company.

Still, resentment simmered beneath his skin. He turned toward Carter, silently begging for backup. If anyone could stop Sharon, it was him. She always listened to Carter.

But Carter didn’t look his way. His expression was unreadable, his eyes locked on Sharon.

Nate’s jaw twitched, humiliation tightening every muscle in his body. Then, under the weight of silence and watching eyes, he dropped to his knees.

"Woof… woof, woof!"

The crowd broke into laughter. They couldn't help themselves.

Nate burned with shame. No one had slapped him, y

A flicker of unease crossed Rick's face. "Of course not. You're family—we would never use you as a bargaining chip. We just need to draw them out. Once they show themselves, we'll rescue Victoria and Samantha."Sharon nodded slowly, her voice calm but laced with sarcasm. "Let me get this straight. You want to use me as bait.""We'll keep you safe, Sharon," Rick insisted. Before Sharon could respond, Jamie cut in, his voice sharp. "If Victoria hadn't taken the fall for you, she never would've been kidnapped. Acting as bait is the least you can do. You'd better pray nothing happens to her. If she gets so much as a scratch, you'll have me to answer to."Sharon finally turned her gaze to him, her expression glacial."And who are you, exactly?" she said, her voice dangerously cold. "What gives you the right to speak here? Get out. You are not welcome in this house."Jamie froze, stunned by her audacity. Even now, after everything, she had the nerve to be this arrogant.Silas's temper

Silas's cold, cutting gaze slid from Sharon to Thomas, then landed on Theo.He exploded, voice sharp with fury. "While the rest of us were tearing our hair out over Victoria's kidnapping, you were out having fun with your son! Sharon, do you even have a conscience?"Pointing straight at Theo, Silas roared, "This isn't your playground, Sharon! The Kalen family isn't a place where you can run wild. Take your son—and get out. Now!"Theo flinched under the force of his uncle's glare, shuddering from head to toe.It was the first time he'd ever met his Uncle Silas and Uncle Scott.Aunt Victoria had told him they were kind people, that they'd long wanted to meet him and had even prepared gifts. But now, faced with Silas's rage-twisted expression, he thought his uncle looked more like a monster than a man.Thomas moved smoothly, putting himself between Silas and Theo. His tone was deceptively light, but the ice in his voice was unmistakable."That's interesting," he began, a faint, col

Theo nodded obediently. "Alright."Watching the scene, Carter's dark eyes deepened. For some reason, Kelly's face suddenly came to mind.Whenever they ate together, she would always order overly sweet drinks to please Theo. Even when it was something he wasn't supposed to have, she would coax, "Just a sip, it's fine."During that period, Theo often fell ill. Once, he was even hospitalized with an allergic reaction after eating a slice of nut cake.Remembering that, Carter lowered his gaze slightly. How foolish he had been to believe Kelly's manipulative nonsense. He'd once thought she truly cared for Theo. Now, it seemed… she didn't even compare to a schemer like Thomas. He poured a glass of water for Sharon and was just about to hand it to her when his expression froze. Was he seeing things?Because standing not far away… was Kelly. After she fled, he hadn't gone after her. As long as she stayed out of sight and out of trouble, he had no reason to hunt her down. After all, h

Carter and Theo had traveled comfortably on a private jet. Even after a long flight, neither of them felt the least bit tired.Since learning in advance of their arrival, Sharon had already planned everything out."The amusement parks in Marcentine are famous," she said with a warm smile. "Theo, do you want to go play?""I do!" Theo answered eagerly.Sharon took his hand, her expression soft with affection.Thomas naturally fell into step on Theo's other side. "Theo, have you been practicing your shooting while I've been away?"Theo lifted his chin proudly. "I've been practicing every day! Daddy even hired a shooting instructor for me. Thomas, this time I'll definitely beat you!"Thomas chuckled. "Alright, then let's have a rematch later.""Yay!" Theo exclaimed, bouncing with excitement. The striking trio drew countless stares as they walked. Whispered comments floated through the air, reaching Carter's ears."What a gorgeous family of three!""No wonder their kid is so cute

Samantha hesitated. "If Johanna finds out you're scheming against the man she likes, she'll never let it go."Victoria replied calmly, "That's one of the reasons I haven't told my dad or brothers. Once they learn Thomas's true identity, they'll either try to win him over—which means they'll probably push him and Sharon together—or they'll see him as an enemy, and things will turn ugly. Johanna likes Thomas. I don't want my family clashing with him. Jamie, for her sake, won't take things too far."Samantha smiled faintly. "You always think things through, Victoria."That foresight was one of the reasons they had remained such close friends. Victoria wasn't someone who could be easily bullied, but she also wasn't ruthless—she knew when to advance and when to retreat. When Victoria noticed the time, she and Samantha left the café.The moment they stepped outside, a license-plate-free car screeched to a halt in front of them. Before they could even register what was happening, sever

Everyone froze.Scott and Victoria exchanged stunned looks.Victoria whispered, "Sharon has been in Marcentine this whole time and hasn't returned to Zachemaine. Could there be some mistake about Lex?"Lex snorted. "She wouldn't be stupid enough to do it herself. She only needed someone who worships her to act. The one who made me disappear in Listoria City was her lackey, Julliard."Victoria and Scott fell silent, unsure what to say. In the past, Scott would have stormed off immediately to drag Sharon in for answers. But now… he hesitated. He'd begun to harbor doubts about her. After a moment, Scott asked, "Lex, do you have any proof?"Lex's gaze sharpened. He sensed the subtle shift in Victoria and Scott's attitude toward Sharon—they weren't as certain as before. Victoria looked at Samantha. "Samantha, would you mind leaving us alone with Lex for a bit?"This matter involved Sharon and the Kalen family. Samantha slipped quietly from the ward, leaving Victoria and Scott bes
