Chapter 240

Author: Sienna Yates
Carter was stunned—furious and bewildered all at once.

Sharon had actually dared to do this to him?

She picked up a disinfectant wipe from the table and, without a flicker of emotion, wiped her chin and wrist clean.

"What's got you so worked up?" Her voice was even, almost indifferent. "Didn't you use to bargain with me the same way? Didn't you threaten me with Theo, just like this?"

She tossed the wipe into the trash and looked at him, the corners of her mouth lifting slightly—not quite a smile.

"You were a good teacher. I only learned from the best."

The image of Sharon's stubborn refusal to apologize to Kelly flickered in his mind, and for a moment, Carter found it hard to breathe.

She wasn't wrong. He had threatened her like that before.

Not missing the shift in his expression, Sharon softened her tone just slightly.

"Nate's future... your precious Kelly's life... are those really worth less than money?"

Carter narrowed his eyes. "I'm not giving you half of everything I o

Upon seeing Carter and Kelly seated in the private room, Sharon's expression froze.Behind her, Ginny noticed Sharon standing motionless at the door and asked curiously, "Sharon, what's wrong?"Snapping back to her senses, Sharon replied calmly, "Nothing."With that, she stepped into the room.Kelly's expression shifted in surprise the moment she saw Sharon."Sharon? Why are you here?"She was certain the person she invited wasn't Sharon, but Ginny, an upperclassman from Bell University.Ginny was a renowned pianist and one of the stars of Bell University's Hall of Fame. A native of Zachemaine, she was known for both her talent and her grace. Since they were alumni from the same school, it had been easy to strike up a connection.Of course, under normal circumstances, without Carter's help, she wouldn't have stood a chance of inviting a pianist of Ginny's stature, alumni or not.Ginny stepped into the room behind Sharon, her smile gentle and polite. "Hello, I'm Ginny Blakely.

Victoria had that extraordinary beauty that comes once in a generation—heaven-touched, like fate itself had chosen her as its favorite child.Whenever Nate's parents spoke of Victoria, they did so with a look of awe and humility, as if she belonged to a realm far above their own."Whoever marries Victoria must have been a saint in their past life.""Honestly, someone like Victoria is out of reach for families like ours. We couldn't even dream of her as a daughter-in-law.""Rumor has it some foreign King proposed to her, wanted to make her his queen. But her father turned him down flat. Makes you wonder what kind of man the Kalens are holding out for.""Richard would never settle for his daughter being just another wife in some royal harem. With Victoria's pedigree, looks, and brains? She'll land a man who's perfect in every way, and who'll love only her."In their eyes, Victoria was a goddess incarnate.Their praise sparked Nate's curiosity, but when he tried to look up her phot

Back at the Biggs Group headquarters, Nate handed three neatly organized files to Carter."Carter, these are the three women Kelly wants to invite. All three come from prominent families. Over the years, they've made quite a name for themselves in the music industry."Though the general public may not recognize their names, they're highly respected within the professional circle and have even turned down invitations from Maestro Warner himself."By the way… this woman, Carol Fraser, is the heiress of Fraser Group. They recently started working with us. If you personally speak to Fraser Group's CEO, I believe he'll give you that courtesy."Carter glanced over the documents and gave a faint nod in acknowledgment.Nate continued, "This one, Melanie Perkins, also comes from a wealthy family, but they're nowhere near the Biggs Group's level. Applying a bit of pressure on her family shouldn't be a problem."The tricky one is Ginny Blakely…" He frowned. "Her background is exceptional. R

"In the end, we decided to meet halfway. Victoria will apply to a music conservatory. And as compensation, I'll grant her fifteen percent of the family's shares," Richard said.To Sharon, his words felt like a cruel joke.Victoria was a science prodigy, yet she hadn't wanted to pursue a STEM degree. She had insisted on attending a business school. What did business school have to do with her so-called strengths in the sciences?Did they think she was too ignorant to know better, simply because she hadn't gone to university?Rick, standing beside their father, chimed in. "Jenna, under normal circumstances, Victoria should receive ten percent of the family shares, just like Silas and Scott."But now that you've returned, there will inevitably be speculation and gossip. Some people might even dig up the past. This could damage Victoria's reputation. So Dad and I agreed to give her an additional five percent to offset the potential fallout."Damage to Victoria's reputation? So her r

What Scott didn't know at the time was that Sharon had already been accepted into Bell University under special consideration.Still, young and proud, she held fast to her dignity. She refused the bank card Scott handed her.Scott said, "You may only be a year younger than Victoria, but you're not on her level. Just take the card. If it's not enough, you can always ask us or Dad for more. "You're family, after all. Life out there couldn't have been as good as it is here. If you want to buy luxury goods, jewelry, or a car, just make a list. The family will take care of everything. We don't want people thinking we've been neglecting you."She had just reunited with her family, and they were already offering her the spoils of indulgence, as if her return wasn't to reconnect with family, but to spend money. If she had taken that card, it would've only deepened their contempt.Sharon had never known hardship growing up. A celebrated beauty and a top student, she'd always lived a life

"Well, well, my pretty ladies. Long time no see."Melanie and Wendy had always been the extroverted ones in their group, and they'd hit it off easily back in their days at Bell University. The moment Melanie spotted Wendy, her eyes lit up, and she threw her into a warm embrace."Wendy! I've missed you like crazy!"Although it had been years since their last reunion, there wasn't the slightest hint of awkwardness or distance between them. The quietest among the four, Ginny, hesitated for a moment before speaking softly, "Sharon… have you heard from the Kalen family?"Ginny came from the most prominent background among them. The Blakely and Kalen families were well-matched in influence and had been close for generations. Recently, there had been talk of a political marriage—uniting the two families by marrying Ginny to Sharon's eldest brother, Rick.Just a short while ago, Ginny had even met Rick a few times over dinner. At her words, Sharon paused with one hand on the car door.
