Nate wore a smug expression. At his side, a faint smile tugged at the corners of Kelly's lips.

"Return?"

What a carefully chosen word.

Sharon didn't react with anger. Her tone remained calm, almost light. "Carter, shouldn't you understand what actually happened before making a decision?"

Carter's face was impassive.

"Kelly and I had just left the clinic, and you showed up here right after. You really expect me to believe you aren't deliberately trying to cause trouble?"

Sharon glanced at his face, then at Kelly—smiling now, taunting.

She smiled faintly back. "Alright. Since Kelly likes it so much, I'll let her have it."

Carter's expression eased a little. Kelly's smile deepened, and Nate looked so pleased he might've wagged his tail if he had one.

Sharon held out the bracelet. "Here, Kelly. It's yours."

Kelly didn't hesitate. She reached out to take it.

To her, this bracelet was more than just jewelry. It was proof—of Carter's preference, of her victory over Sharon.
