The morning began in deceptive peace.

Golden light filtered through the linen curtains, spilling across the hardwood floor and warming the edges of the rug. Sienna stood barefoot in the bedroom, hair loose over her shoulders, the faint hum of the kettle still in her ears. She balanced a steaming mug of coffee in her hand, watching Adrian as he buttoned his cuffs in front of the tall mirror.

He always looked untouchable in the mornings. Tall. Composed. His presence filled the room as though the air bent itself around him. But his tie hung loose, draped carelessly over his collar like a ribbon waiting for order.

“You’re hopeless,” she said softly, setting the mug down on the dresser.

Adrian glanced at her reflection, his lips twitching. “I leave it for you.”

She crossed the room, bare feet silent on the polished floor. “That’s not an excuse. You’d walk out of here looking like a man who dressed in the dark.”

“I’d walk out of here thinking of you fixing me,” he corrected, t

The night was heavy with silence, but Chloe thrived in silence. From across the street, leaning casually against a the seat of her car, she watched the sleek black car swallow Sienna Monroe whole. The tinted windows hid her face, but Chloe didn’t need to see. She knew the way Sienna moved, the careful tilt of her head, the softness in her posture. She had seen enough at the birthday party. Too much, perhaps. Her eyes lingered on the car until it merged with traffic and disappeared into the indigo veil of the city. Chloe let out a slow breath, the corners of her lips curving into a smile that looked almost serene — but it was anything but. It was a predator’s smile, a woman who saw the game board before her and already knew her first move.Sienna was back in Adrian’s life. That fact alone gnawed at her.“Enjoy your little beginning, darling,” she murmured under her breath, adjusting the strap of her silk blouse. “You won’t see me coming.”The streetlight above hummed faintly, buzzing a

The night before had ended with a slip of the tongue.“My wife doesn’t want me interfering,” Adrian had said, pressing a hand dramatically against his chest. The words had startled them both. Sienna had smiled, coy and sharp, reminding him, “I’m not your wife anymore, Adrian Hawthorne.”He hadn’t answered. He’d only smiled in that maddening way of his, the kind of smile that suggested silence was more powerful than words and the statement was in no way a mistake of his. The next morning, the air in their room was lighter, yet charged with something unspoken. Sunlight streamed through gauzy curtains, painting stripes of gold across the bed. Sienna stretched, pulling the sheet tighter over her chest, watching Adrian already at the edge of the mattress buttoning his cufflinks.“You were unusually quiet last night,” she said, her tone playful but probing. He glanced over his shoulder, his hair still damp from the shower, his expression smooth. “Was I?”“You said something,” she reminded

The morning air was still heavy with the aftertaste of laughter. Half-deflated balloons sagged against the high ceilings of the Hawthorne estate, ribbons trailed across polished marble floors, and the faint perfume of buttercream lingered where cake crumbs dotted the long dining table. The house, once alive with shrieks of children and music, now dozed in silence. Sienna stirred awake to the hush. The twins were tangled in each other’s arms at the foot of their bed, exhaustion written across their small faces, faint smiles still lingering as though they’d carried dreams of yesterday into sleep. She tucked the blanket tighter around them, kissed their temples, and tiptoed out. Downstairs, the light in the kitchen was soft, filtered through half-drawn curtains. Adrian was already there, sleeves rolled up, hair slightly mussed, a coffee mug in his hand. The sight stopped her for a moment—Adrian Hawthorne, the man who commanded boardrooms and sent rivals scattering, leaning against the

The morning sun spilled through the tall windows of the Hawthorne estate, golden light dancing across the marble floors. The house hummed with life—staff hurried down the corridors with trays of balloons, rolls of ribbons, and polished silver platters that would later be piled high with cakes and sweets. But upstairs, the world was still quiet.Adrian and Sienna slipped softly into the children’s room, their steps muted against the plush carpet. They exchanged a smile, then began to sing in low, warm voices.“Happy birthday to you…”Alina stirred first, the song pulling her from her dreams. Her eyes fluttered open, wide and bright the moment she saw her parents leaning over her bed. “It’s today!” she squealed, throwing her small arms around Sienna’s neck.Leo blinked awake slower, rubbing his eyes and mumbling, “It’s too early.” But when Adrian bent down and pressed a kiss to his temple, murmuring, “Happy birthday, son,” Leo’s lips twitched into a shy smile.Within moments, Alina was

The morning air carried the hush of something sacred. The Hawthorne car rolled down the slick city streets, its tinted windows clouded faintly by mist. Outside, a drizzle painted the world gray, droplets racing each other across the glass. Inside, silence sat between Adrian and Sienna like a third passenger.Sienna’s hands were clasped tightly in her lap, fingers white-knuckled, lips moving faintly as if in prayer. Every so often, she closed her eyes, whispering words too soft to be caught, but Adrian knew their weight. He didn’t interrupt at first—he respected the private rhythm of her fear. But when her nails began digging crescents into her palms, he reached over, strong fingers sliding against hers until he had her hand in his. His thumb stroked gently across the back of her knuckles.“If I can survive endless board meetings with men twice as stubborn as I am,” he said lightly, his voice a warm baritone breaking the tension, “I can survive this.”She let out a shaky laugh, the sou

The office still smelled of polished wood and faint ink, but the air was heavy—so heavy it felt like no one dared breathe. Adrian Hawthorne hadn’t raised his voice. He didn’t need to. His silence was a weapon sharp enough to slice the room apart.Mr. Nigel, who just minutes ago strode in with arrogance, was no longer the same man. His confidence had shattered under Adrian’s gaze, the kind of gaze that didn’t just look at you, it dismantled you piece by piece, stripping you of lies, excuses, and pride until nothing remained but the naked truth of your weakness.“I—President Hawthorne,” Mr. Nigel stammered, his throat bobbing, his once-slicked hair damp with nervous sweat. His hands shook as he nudged his wife, who still stood frozen in disbelief. “Apologize. Now.”Mrs. Nigel flinched as though the command came with a lash. She opened her mouth, but no sound came. Her hand twitched toward her pearls as if clutching them would shield her from the storm gathering before her.Adrian didn’t
