Sienna
The whole week went by in the blink of an eye. Everything was so hectic this week in the ER. A plane crashed near the airport, so there were a lot of casualties. Everyone had to take double shifts to cover all that. By the time the weekend came around, I was exhausted as hell, but I promised Ava, so here I was getting ready to go out for her birthday.
I stood in front of the mirror to check my appearance one last time before Ava came to pick me up.
I stared at my reflection. I wore a stunning black drop shoulder top, paired it with sleek black flare pants and black heels. I wore my hair in a high ponytail, showing my neck. The final touch was a bold, red lipstick that added a pop of color to my overall look. This was one of those times that I felt completely confident in my looks.
After what happened five years ago, I completely stopped going out and interacting with people. It wasn’t until I met Ava that she pulled me out of my shell and helped me gain my confidence again.
My phone buzzed with a text message. I glanced at it, seeing a text from Ava indicating she was here to pick me up. I left my room, going downstairs. The whole house showered in darkness and emptiness. Adrian, as usual, was at ‘work’. I can’t wait to move back into my apartment. Maybe this way Adrian will move on with Gracie too and stop worrying about me.
Ava is standing right outside her car when I come out. She’s dressed to the nines. Her delicate features and petite frame give her an innocent, girl next door look, but once you get to know her, you realize she’s got a fiery spirit underneath. Right now she’s wearing a fitted black dress that hits just above her knees. She looks stunning.
“Finally you’re here, and look at you, beautiful!” Ava exclaimed, beaming with a warm smile.
See always so supportive and boosting my confidence.
I shot back with a teasing grin, “Look in the mirror. You look even more stunning!” I told her, though she doesn’t need others to tell her about her beauty.
“I know I know,” she said, pushing her long blond hair over her shoulder. “Let’s get going before we’re late.”
The drive there is short enough that we get there in twenty minutes. Giving the car keys to the valet, we enter the stunning restaurant. The hostess greets us with a warm smile and shows us to our seats.
“Oh look! There’s a big bar and dancing floor up there too,” Ava said excitedly, pointing above us. “Let’s eat and then go up there.”
Soon the waiter was there to take our orders. I ordered a chicken fettuccine Alfredo pasta with a side of Caesar salad. while Ava ordered herself the same with some fries.
“Look at this place. It’s so cool. I’ve never been somewhere like this before. I love it!” Ava said, barely containing her excitement.
“Your uncle owns one of the biggest restaurants in New York. Are you sure you haven’t been somewhere like this?” I raise one eyebrow and tease her.
“Oh shush, don't ever tell my uncle he’ll disown me,” she said amusingly.
Ava's parents died when she was a child. Her uncle raised her, and she loves him very much. It took a lot of convincing on her side to let her come to Chicago for her career. She came here four years ago. She'd been in every one of my classes. That's how I got to know her. Her situation is a little similar to mine, which is why I'm so happy to have met her.
We spent the next few minutes catching on to the latest gossip and sharing laughs until our food arrived. The food was amazing. Ava, being her dramatic self, let out a series of exaggerated moans with each bite, which drew attention from nearby tables, on which I rolled my eyes playful every time she did.
Soon we were done, and Ava was ready to jump up and run to the bar. I had to hold her back a few times before I relented, and we went to the bar upstairs. We took our seats on the stool and waited to catch the attention of the bartender.
“So what are we drinking?” Ava asked, drumming her fingers on the counter.
“You are drinking. I'm not. One of us has to drive back home.”
“Oh bummer. I won’t drink either.” Ava said sadly.
She didn’t push me much because she knows I’m not a big drinker.
The bartender came and took our orders.
While we were eating, I felt a tinge in the back of my neck, as if someone were watching me. I turned around, but all I could see were people busy dancing. I'm probably being paranoid due to Adrian's warnings. I turned back to Ava, continuing our conversation, but I couldn't shake off the feeling of someone watching me.
Before I know it, the drinks are in front of us. A lime soda for me and soda for Ava.
Ava takes her drink in one go and screams, “Let’s go dancing!” And pulls me along with her.
I let her go and stood by the corner. I’m not so comfortable dancing in a crowd.
I feel someone touching my arm, I whirl around to face a tall man, grinning at me
“Hey pretty girl, want to come dance?”
He looked wasted. I was already weirded out by this creep. I tried to decline politely. “I think I’m fine here,” I said, giving him a smile.
His features changed from smiling to a scowl in a second. He held onto my arm in a bruising grip and squeezed it.
“Come on. One dance won't hurt you.” he tried to drag me to the dance floor.
“Hey! Let me go.” I try to squeeze out of his grip.
Before I could scream, a shadow loomed over the man’s face. He looked over my shoulder. Whatever he saw drained all the color on his face, and he let go of my hand quickly.
“Ah, boss, I was just trying to get this lady to the dance floor,” he blurted out nervously.
SiennaIt had been an hour since I hung up on Adrian. Now, the guilt was gnawing at me.I knew I’d been too emotional—too impulsive. My heart had been pounding the entire time, and now, as the silence settled in, I wished I had handled things differently. Still, the clock on my wall reminded me that I had little time to dwell. In just three hours, I had to be at the courthouse.I kept asking myself if I was doing the right thing. Was marrying Lucian truly what I wanted? But every time I replayed that question in my mind, I came back to the same answer: Yes.Lucian had been there for me these past four months—steadfast, dependable, kind. He took care of me in every way, protected me even when I didn’t ask for it. And he never once tried to take advantage of me. Not like the other guys who only cared for surface-level affection. Lucian never pushed me. He made me feel safe. This wasn’t just a favor. It was something I wanted—for him, for us.Maybe I sounded immature, maybe I was rushing
SiennaI paced back and forth across my living room, the soles of my feet silent against the cold floor. My untouched pancakes sat on the table, long gone cold—just like my appetite. I'd made them hours ago in a desperate attempt to distract myself, hoping the mundane rhythm of mixing batter and flipping them would settle the storm raging in my chest. It hadn’t worked. Not even cleaning the kitchen cabinets and reorganizing my spice rack could silence the tremor in my hands.Adrian had replied that he’d be free in an hour. That hour was almost up now. I’d checked the clock a dozen times in the past five minutes. Each passing second chipped away at my nerves until my mouth was dry and my thoughts scrambled. What the hell was I even going to say?And how would I say it in a way he’d understand? After everything with Ava, I was already exhausted. I didn’t have the strength left to explain myself to another person who might walk away. But this—this was different. This conversation would d
SiennaI stared at my ceiling as my mind was slowly becoming a nest of uninvited thoughts. I had one day to prepare for the day I always fantasized about. I wanted to get married to the right person and have the most perfectly planned event but I only got one thing right. I only got the right person but so little time. It wasn't that everything was rushed, Lucian had his reasons and so did I. My reason for rushing to this wedding was to achieve a level of independence that I could never get as long as I was alone and under the vigilance of Adrian. Understandably so, Lucian wouldn't be any different in terms of vigilance but at least I’d have boundaries. This was a business wedding and for the sake of the title we have to complete the paperwork. After all the fiasco died down, we would have a proper planned wedding. I have not spoken to Lucian about a future wedding yet but I was sure that he wouldn't object to it. However, as many hopeful thoughts bloomed in my mind, the guilt w
LucianNico slammed a file onto my desk, interrupting my focus. I looked up from my laptop, my eyes narrowing slightly.“They’re all scheming something,” he muttered darkly.I flipped the file open and immediately stilled at what I saw—photographs of Tony, Roy, and my father. Together. In multiple meetings I had absolutely no knowledge of. My jaw tightened as I scanned through the photos.“Where did you get these?” I asked, barely hiding my surprise. We’d been searching for months and had come up empty—until now.“I contacted someone who deals with... less legal forms of information,” Nico said with a shrug.I raised a brow. “You couldn’t have done this before?”“He takes money upfront with no guarantees. I wasn’t going to bring you some dead-end lead and waste your time—or mine. So I paid from my own pocket.” He dropped onto the couch, clearly exhausted.“I see,” I murmured, eyes glued to the images. The pieces were starting to align—just not in a way I liked.“That’s John’s father i
Lucian“Marry me.”I had no idea what the hell I was thinking when those words left my mouth. Maybe it was the way she handled that gun like it was made for her. Maybe it was the way she didn’t hesitate to protect me, even if it meant getting blood on her hands. Or maybe it was the realization that she wasn’t just someone I cared about—she was the kind of woman who could stand beside me in fire.Perfect. Dangerous. Mine. But happiness like that? It was never meant for people like me.The moment she looked at me—eyes wide, full of stunned hope—I felt the guilt slice straight through my chest. I wanted to rip my own tongue out for putting that look in her eyes. A look I couldn’t afford to keep there. But I couldn’t take it back. Not now. I had set things in motion the day I found my sister broken beyond repair. Whether Sienna was Adrian’s blood or not didn’t matter. He loved her like a sister. And hurting her meant hurting him. That was the only way to make him feel the agony he had onc
SiennaWe stood outside a new fast food place I’d found online. After that first time, Lucian had asked me to take him to more spots like it. Sometimes it was just us, and other times Ava and Nico joined. Nico, of course, was still on his mission to impress Ava. She acted indifferent, like she didn’t even notice—but I knew better. She just liked keeping him on his toes. Watching them bicker and banter was a comedy show on its own. They were chaos. Nothing like Lucian and me.The restaurant didn’t exactly scream “five stars.” It looked more sketchy crime drama than urban retro.“You seriously want to go in there?” Lucian raised a brow at me, his voice tinged with amusement and caution.I tilted my head, inspecting the dull, flickering neon sign, the faded paint, and the eerily empty parking lot. “Yeah, no,” I said with a quick shake of my head.We turned back towards his car, but before we could reach it, a convoy of black SUVs began filling the lot like a silent storm rolling in.
