Chapter 2

Autor: AlphaGo
The mockery on Lucius's face froze for a moment.

Then he let out a short, sharp laugh.

"The mate contract was established by the vampire council. Unless I agree, it's not yours to come and go as you please."

He slammed down his glass and strode over, his long, cold fingers gripping my chin.

The moment he leaned close, the sharp perfume Vivian wore on his sleeve mixed with the heavy blood wine and rushed into my nose.

A violent wave of pregnancy nausea churned my stomach. I shoved his hand away and collapsed onto the carpet, retching violently.

Lucius looked down at me, his face terrifyingly dark.

"What, I just steadied Vivian and picked up a bit of her perfume, and you're disgusted?"

"Back then, for the three hundred million and the First Embrace, you swore love to my face while secretly signing a contract with the council behind my back. Why didn't you find yourself disgusting then?"

He bent down, grabbed the stack of contract papers from the nightstand, and without even glancing at the last page, tore them in half in front of me.

With a series of rips, the contract copy was shredded.

White paper scraps and the fallen wedding ring rained down on my head and body.

"You married me for the wealth, didn't you? Now that you see the First Embrace went to Vivian, you're playing hard to get?"

I looked at the paper scraps on my knees, my nails digging deep into my palms.

Six years ago, I signed that humiliating contract because the council threatened Lucius's position as prince if I didn't.

If I cooperated, the council would protect Lucius's status.

To spare Lucius's pride and protect his position, I swallowed every humiliation and chose silence when Lucius demanded answers with red eyes.

He only saw the three hundred million and the clause "if no child after six years, must allow husband to take another partner" that the council deliberately put on the surface. He never opened the last page of the contract.

Lucius dusted the paper scraps off his hands and looked down at me with a cold sneer.

"You married me for the vampires' wealth, didn't you?"

"Threatening me with leaving is useless. An orphan girl like you, how could you bear to leave me?"

Looking at the cold wedding ring on the carpet, I knew clearly. This marriage, which had drained six years of my heart and blood, had truly come to an end.

I tugged at the corner of my mouth and swallowed the bitterness in my throat.

He didn't know. I actually had a family.

He had also forgotten. The last line of the council's contract was written perfectly clear—

After six years without pregnancy, the mate contract automatically dissolves.

No need for the male's signature. The human partner's mark will be erased, and she will leave vampire territory forever.

There were only seven days left until the six-year deadline.

Soon, I would be gone.

Lucius didn't give up.Three days later, the human noble families and the vampire council held a centennial alliance banquet at the neutral sanctuary on the border. When I walked into the banquet hall in the pure white gown of the Windsor family heir, my arm through my father's, every guest rose to bow.A swaying figure suddenly rushed out from the corner.Lucius, ignoring the guards of both races, forced his way into the central hall and dropped to his knees before my skirt. His face was pale as paper. His chest was a bloody mess. When all the vampire elders present saw what was in his hand, they gasped."Lord Prince! You've cut out half your own blood core?!"The vampire blood core is the source of immortality and power. Cutting out half would not only permanently drop him from the rank of prince, but a single misstep could reduce him to ashes on the spot.Lucius held the faintly pulsing dark red blood core in both hands, looking up at me, his eyes full of humble, frantic hope."Zhiz

On the seventh day of my recovery at the St. Augustine estate, the vampire mark in my body completely dissolved.Without the contract's binding, the cold intolerance that had plagued me for years was cured. Even my pale cheeks regained their color. That evening, heavy snow began to fall outside the estate. The butler walked into the study, his expression strange, and reported:"Miss, the vampire prince Lucius has tracked you to the estate. He's been kneeling in the blizzard for three full days and nights.""The holy barrier of the sanctuary burns high-ranking vampires. Half his body is scorched by the holy light, but he refuses to retreat a single step. He says if he can just see you once, he's willing to die at the gate."I was reviewing the family's auction catalog for the year. I didn't even lift my eyes."Don't see him. Have the guards shut the main gate tight."The butler withdrew. It wasn't until the next morning, when I rode to the sanctuary for the heir's coronation ceremony, t

In the castle's side hall, Vivian still had no idea disaster was coming. She was trying on a princess consort's crown from Lucius's study in front of the mirror, planning how to smoothly take my place once the six years were up.The door was blasted apart by a tremendous force.Lucius walked in, wrapped in terrifying killing intent, his eyes utterly devoid of warmth.Vivian went pale with fright. She quickly took off the crown, dropped to her knees, squeezed out tears, and clung to his leg."Lucius, what's wrong? Did the madam say something about me again outside? Last night I really just wanted to keep her here. She lost her footing on her own..."Lucius looked down at her, his voice cold as poisoned ice."Lost her footing?"He grabbed Vivian by the throat and lifted her clean off the floor."Who gave you the nerve to wear her clothes, live in her master bedroom, and kill my child?!"Vivian's breath was cut off. Her feet kicked wildly in the air. Seeing her disguise completely torn aw

"What did you say?!"The color drained from Lucius's face in an instant. He practically snatched the medical form from the butler's hand, staring at the glaring black text.[Patient suffered a threatened miscarriage due to a severe blow to the lower back. Blood loss lasted too long. Fetal vital signs absent.]Admission time: 3:15 AM.That was the time he was holding Vivian by the fireplace in the side hall, feeding her warm water spoonful by spoonful, mocking me for being "unable to die.""Impossible..."Lucius's hand shook so badly he could barely hold the thin sheet of paper. His voice was hoarse beyond recognition."How could she be pregnant? She hasn't conceived in six years. Last night she was obviously just putting on a pity show..."He shoved the butler aside and charged up to the second floor like a madman, kicking open the master bedroom door. The pungent smell of blood still lingered in the room.Beside the marble pillar, the dark red, blackened bloodstain on the carpet had c

By the time the private jet touched down on the landing pad of the St. Augustine estate, a sliver of dawn was just cracking across the sky.My father stood at the bottom of the stairs, leaning on his silver-handled cane. His temples had gone much grayer than six years ago. When he saw my face, pale as death, his fingers trembled violently around the cane. But he didn't say a single harsh word. He just took off his cashmere coat and wrapped it around me."It's good to have you back.""A daughter of the Windsor family doesn't bow to any other race."I leaned into my father's chest. The strength I'd held onto all night finally drained away. My vision went black, and I passed out. When I woke, I was lying in the greenhouse at the top of the estate. The family physician was preparing a marrow-cleansing potion to remove the residual vampire mate mark from my body."Miss, there are only four days left until the six-year contract expires."The physician reported quietly. "When the mark is auto

I woke in piercing cold. The master bedroom was pitch black, empty. Not even a wall lamp was on.The blood beneath me had dried and gone cold, gluing my gown to the carpet.I licked my cracked lips.I was actually still alive. And Lucius hadn't even called a physician for me.I bit my tongue, used the last of my strength to brace against the wall, stood up, picked up the suitcase in the corner, and moved step by step out of the master bedroom.Passing the side hall at the end of the second-floor corridor, the door wasn't fully closed.Warm golden firelight from the fireplace spilled through the gap onto the cold hallway floor.Inside came Lucius's low, patient voice, gentle as it had been six years ago, before he found the contract."Stop moving around. Drink this warm water and rest properly."Then Vivian's soft, testing voice."Lucius, were you distracted when you came in just now? I thought you were worried about the madam."Lucius paused. His voice cooled instantly."No."Vivian le
