Chapter 3

Autor: AlphaGo
Seeing that I hadn't spoken for a long time, irritation flickered in Lucius's eyes.

"Alright, stop putting on that deeply wronged look."

"A woman like you, who'll do anything for money and immortality, has hypocrisy and calculation in her blood. You can put a price on love itself. What's there to play pitiful about?"

I trembled all over and looked up at him, gritting my teeth.

The reason I'd abandoned my noble background, hidden my name, and insisted on marrying a vampire was because the ancient texts said vampires only ever recognize one mate in their lifetime. Until death.

In our first year of marriage, when he held me in the castle bell tower to watch the first snow, he had personally sworn he would never let me suffer.

Even after he came to hate me because of the contract, I knew vampire mates were bound by blood. He had never truly touched another woman.

That was why I had pathetically endured his coldness again and again, hoping that one day he would calm down, would see that I had never wanted his money or immortality.

Only tonight did I fully wake up.

He hadn't betrayed me physically. But to punish my "greed," he held Vivian in the palm of his hand, indulged her wearing my nightgown, taking my master bedroom, taking the First Embrace that should have been mine, and ground my true heart into the mud step by step.

Vampires were indeed loyal by nature. It was just that his trust and favoritism no longer belonged to me.

Touching the dead, cold stillness in my eyes, Lucius's expression froze for a rare moment.

Six years. This was the first time I had looked at him without a shred of love or attachment.

I didn't defend myself with another word. I just braced against the cold floor, stood up, brushed the paper scraps off my skirt, picked up my suitcase, and turned toward the door.

"Madam, don't go!"

Vivian on the bed suddenly cried out, rushed over barefoot, and blocked my path, her face full of anxiety as she grabbed my wrist.

"It's all my fault. Please don't leave the castle just to spite Lucius. If anyone should go, it's me..."

I frowned and said coldly, "Let go."

Vivian, with her back to Lucius and hidden by the loose nightgown, her frightened expression instantly turned into a vicious provocation.

Her gaze swept over the pregnancy test peeking out of my gown pocket. She lowered her voice, using a volume only the two of us could hear, and said venomously:

"A useless woman who can't even have a child after six years, do you deserve to stay by Lucius's side? Lucius finds you dirty just looking at you now. I suggest you get lost while you still can!"

Before I could even pull free, Vivian suddenly threw herself backward, and at the same time secretly used all her strength to shove me hard toward the stone pillar beside us!

"AH—Madam, don't push me!"

With her piercing scream, I lost my balance. My lower back slammed hard into the sharp corner of the marble pillar.

A bone-splitting pain exploded. I let out a scream and collapsed to the floor. The suitcase rolled aside.

I clutched my stomach desperately. Cold sweat instantly soaked my back.

Warm liquid surged from between my thighs. Slowly. But it wouldn't stop.

Lucius's nostrils flared. He immediately caught the unusual, heavy scent of blood in the air.

His face changed. A flash of instinctive panic crossed his eyes. He subconsciously moved to step toward me.

"Lucius!"

Vivian, sitting on the carpet, clutched his pant leg, holding her chest and crying as if she might collapse.

"I just wanted to stop the madam from leaving. I lost my footing and bumped into her... But my wrist hurts so much. Did she scratch me just now? My chest feels so tight..."

Her urgent crying instantly drowned out the scent of blood and awakened Lucius's resentment toward me.

His steps stopped cold. He didn't even glance down at the glaring red spreading beneath me.

He bent down and scooped Vivian up, carefully examining her wrist, which didn't even have a red mark, and threw me a cold sentence.

"Vivian kindly asked you to stay, and you can't even tolerate a patient who just received the First Embrace?"

"Stop putting on a pity show in the master bedroom and dirtying the carpet. Clean it up yourself. I'll have the vampire physician sent over. I can't have the great Lucius's wife dying in the house."

He carried Vivian carefully toward the door, heading to the side hall to rest.

Vivian, leaning on his shoulder, turned her head and raised an eyebrow at me, lying in the pool of blood, revealing a vicious, triumphant smile.

Her gaze fell on my stomach, which I was desperately protecting. She mouthed silently:

"Take your bastard and die."

The heavy door slammed shut.

Before my vision sank into complete darkness, I clearly felt the tiny life inside me—the one that had just taken shape, the one that, if it stayed, would keep me trapped in vampire territory—turn into a pool of cold blood and drain away.

In the darkness, I vaguely saw the grand coming-of-age ball six years ago.

Back then, I stood before my father, holding my skirt, swearing that Lucius loved me to the bone, that I would never regret it.

So from beginning to end, it was all my own doing.

  • Six Years Later, I Was Gone   Chapter 9

Lucius didn't give up.Three days later, the human noble families and the vampire council held a centennial alliance banquet at the neutral sanctuary on the border. When I walked into the banquet hall in the pure white gown of the Windsor family heir, my arm through my father's, every guest rose to bow.A swaying figure suddenly rushed out from the corner.Lucius, ignoring the guards of both races, forced his way into the central hall and dropped to his knees before my skirt. His face was pale as paper. His chest was a bloody mess. When all the vampire elders present saw what was in his hand, they gasped."Lord Prince! You've cut out half your own blood core?!"The vampire blood core is the source of immortality and power. Cutting out half would not only permanently drop him from the rank of prince, but a single misstep could reduce him to ashes on the spot.Lucius held the faintly pulsing dark red blood core in both hands, looking up at me, his eyes full of humble, frantic hope."Zhiz

On the seventh day of my recovery at the St. Augustine estate, the vampire mark in my body completely dissolved.Without the contract's binding, the cold intolerance that had plagued me for years was cured. Even my pale cheeks regained their color. That evening, heavy snow began to fall outside the estate. The butler walked into the study, his expression strange, and reported:"Miss, the vampire prince Lucius has tracked you to the estate. He's been kneeling in the blizzard for three full days and nights.""The holy barrier of the sanctuary burns high-ranking vampires. Half his body is scorched by the holy light, but he refuses to retreat a single step. He says if he can just see you once, he's willing to die at the gate."I was reviewing the family's auction catalog for the year. I didn't even lift my eyes."Don't see him. Have the guards shut the main gate tight."The butler withdrew. It wasn't until the next morning, when I rode to the sanctuary for the heir's coronation ceremony, t

In the castle's side hall, Vivian still had no idea disaster was coming. She was trying on a princess consort's crown from Lucius's study in front of the mirror, planning how to smoothly take my place once the six years were up.The door was blasted apart by a tremendous force.Lucius walked in, wrapped in terrifying killing intent, his eyes utterly devoid of warmth.Vivian went pale with fright. She quickly took off the crown, dropped to her knees, squeezed out tears, and clung to his leg."Lucius, what's wrong? Did the madam say something about me again outside? Last night I really just wanted to keep her here. She lost her footing on her own..."Lucius looked down at her, his voice cold as poisoned ice."Lost her footing?"He grabbed Vivian by the throat and lifted her clean off the floor."Who gave you the nerve to wear her clothes, live in her master bedroom, and kill my child?!"Vivian's breath was cut off. Her feet kicked wildly in the air. Seeing her disguise completely torn aw

"What did you say?!"The color drained from Lucius's face in an instant. He practically snatched the medical form from the butler's hand, staring at the glaring black text.[Patient suffered a threatened miscarriage due to a severe blow to the lower back. Blood loss lasted too long. Fetal vital signs absent.]Admission time: 3:15 AM.That was the time he was holding Vivian by the fireplace in the side hall, feeding her warm water spoonful by spoonful, mocking me for being "unable to die.""Impossible..."Lucius's hand shook so badly he could barely hold the thin sheet of paper. His voice was hoarse beyond recognition."How could she be pregnant? She hasn't conceived in six years. Last night she was obviously just putting on a pity show..."He shoved the butler aside and charged up to the second floor like a madman, kicking open the master bedroom door. The pungent smell of blood still lingered in the room.Beside the marble pillar, the dark red, blackened bloodstain on the carpet had c

  • Six Years Later, I Was Gone   Chapter 5

By the time the private jet touched down on the landing pad of the St. Augustine estate, a sliver of dawn was just cracking across the sky.My father stood at the bottom of the stairs, leaning on his silver-handled cane. His temples had gone much grayer than six years ago. When he saw my face, pale as death, his fingers trembled violently around the cane. But he didn't say a single harsh word. He just took off his cashmere coat and wrapped it around me."It's good to have you back.""A daughter of the Windsor family doesn't bow to any other race."I leaned into my father's chest. The strength I'd held onto all night finally drained away. My vision went black, and I passed out. When I woke, I was lying in the greenhouse at the top of the estate. The family physician was preparing a marrow-cleansing potion to remove the residual vampire mate mark from my body."Miss, there are only four days left until the six-year contract expires."The physician reported quietly. "When the mark is auto

  • Six Years Later, I Was Gone   Chapter 4

I woke in piercing cold. The master bedroom was pitch black, empty. Not even a wall lamp was on.The blood beneath me had dried and gone cold, gluing my gown to the carpet.I licked my cracked lips.I was actually still alive. And Lucius hadn't even called a physician for me.I bit my tongue, used the last of my strength to brace against the wall, stood up, picked up the suitcase in the corner, and moved step by step out of the master bedroom.Passing the side hall at the end of the second-floor corridor, the door wasn't fully closed.Warm golden firelight from the fireplace spilled through the gap onto the cold hallway floor.Inside came Lucius's low, patient voice, gentle as it had been six years ago, before he found the contract."Stop moving around. Drink this warm water and rest properly."Then Vivian's soft, testing voice."Lucius, were you distracted when you came in just now? I thought you were worried about the madam."Lucius paused. His voice cooled instantly."No."Vivian le
