Chapter 2

Penulis: Moore
I waited until the full moon climbed high into the sky. Soft moonlight poured down, wrapping the entire ballroom in a calm yet overwhelming power.

The blessing of the Moon Goddess descended like a tide, warm and gentle, soothing every werewolf present. Couples seized the moment and held each other close, receiving the Moon Goddess's grace.

I stretched my neck, desperately searching the dance floor. What I saw was Apollo's arm tight around Bella's waist as he patiently guided her through the steps.

When the silver light fell, Bella clasped his hand, her smile brighter than the moon itself.

I heard one of his friends call out loudly, "Apollo, it's the moment of the Moon Goddess's blessing! Aren't you going to find Nora and receive it with her?"

Before Apollo could answer, Bella suddenly slipped the ring off his finger and exclaimed, "Apollo, look! The moonstone is glowing under the moonlight! It's beautiful! Can I borrow it?"

Hearing that, my friend spoke up for me. "That ring was hand-polished by Nora herself. It took her a full month to finish. Are you going to give it to her like that? Have you even considered Nora's feelings?"

Apollo paused as he helped Bella put on the ring. After a long moment, he said, "It's fine to let her wear it for a night. Nora's too nice to get upset over something like this."

I didn't listen to anything after that. I turned and left, knowing well he wasn't coming back to find me. The stage was only a few feet away from the corner where I stood, yet he was unwilling to let go of Bella and walk those extra steps to me.

On the way back, I slowly slipped the ring off my finger. This pair of rings had cost me an entire month of effort. Yet, in his eyes, it was nothing more than a toy to entertain Bella.

I should've given up long ago, shouldn't I? It had been three long years. I never should've kept hoping for him to change.

I returned to our villa in a daze. The place was cold and empty. Even the household staff had taken the night off to attend the masquerade. Every young wolf in the Silverfang pack was celebrating beneath the full moon.

Meanwhile, I was here alone, as if shut out from all that warmth and noise.

When my parents first passed away, Apollo stayed devotedly by my side. His eyes had been filled with sincerity as he told me, "Nora, from now on, I'm your family. You'll never be alone again."

Later, we fell in love and formed a mate bond. That was also when Bella forced her way between us.

Apollo never seemed able to say "no" to her. Instead, he would always tell me, "She's still young. Just give in to her."

Compromise after compromise made one thing painfully clear. It was time for me to leave. Perhaps a lonely road suited me better.

No sooner had I made up my mind than my phone rang. It was Apollo calling. I didn't pick up at first, but the screen kept flickering insistently. I sighed and, at last, pressed the answer button.

"Nora, where are you? I can't find you at the ball!" he boomed through the music and shouting from the ballroom. His voice cut through it all like magic, piercing right into my ear.

Before I could speak, I heard Bella's flirty voice on the phone. "Come over, Apollo! You promised to teach me this dance!"

He responded to her without hesitation. Then, almost as an afterthought, he said to me, "Just come to the stage quickly. We still have time for one last dance."

I looked at the call that had just ended and calmly sent him a message. "I don't think it's necessary. I'm heading back. You two have fun."

The last dance, indeed. Little did he know, the mating ceremony scheduled for the day after tomorrow wouldn't happen either. I began packing my things.

After living here for three years, everything in the villa seemed to carry my scent. The cute mural on the living room wall had been painted by the children from the orphanage as a gift for me.

The shoe rack held a matching set of the couple's shoes. The bar counter had a pair of couples' mugs. Even the couch had two oversized throw pillows that came as a set.

Now that I had decided to leave, I couldn't take any of it with me. My heart felt like it was being carved open. I couldn't bear to part with any of it.

Yet, aside from these nostalgic items, my personal belongings were painfully few. A single 20-inch suitcase was enough to hold everything I truly owned.

By the time I dragged the suitcase downstairs, the sky was already bright. An entire night had passed without me noticing.

I looked at everything I once knew so well, my chest aching, tears threatening to fall. As much as I had decided to give up on his bond, my heart still hurt all the same.

Angelo hesitated and glanced at Apollo. "Plotting against a pack member is a serious crime. Once this is reported, it means exile or execution. Are you sure, Beta?"Disdain filled Apollo's eyes. "I never thought she'd go this far, but this is the punishment she deserves. I won't protect her."He turned to me. "And the harm she caused Nora goes far beyond this. This is my failure for not seeing the truth sooner. I'm sorry, I made you suffer for far too long."Tears rolled down my cheeks. After years of silent hurt and bitterness, they broke loose all at once.Apollo pulled me into his arms, awkwardly patting my back like he didn't quite know what to do. "I'm sorry, I'm bad with words. I'm always scared of upsetting you, so I never explain myself. I promise I'll do better in the future. Can you… not leave again?"He looked at me with pleading eyes, pitiful like an abandoned pup. I wiped my tears away and curved my lips into a smirk. "No."The light in Apollo's eyes dimmed. His head

"Hold on, Nora! I'm getting you out of here!" Apollo said, voice trembling as his heart shattered. When he first found me, he thought he was looking at a cold corpse. The terror had been so intense that it felt like his heart had stopped beating. But I was alive, thankfully, despite the gruesome injuries. He quickly poured every healing potion he had into my mouth, then lifted me with extreme care. No one knew how much effort it had taken for him to find me.By then, a full week had already passed since my accident. Everyone else had given up, and the patrol had declared me dead—everyone except Apollo."She could very well still be alive! I don't believe she's dead until I see her body!" he had said.He slaughtered every living creature at the cliff base just to make sure I would be safe. Under the Moon Goddess's blessing, he finally found me.I lay in the healing pod for two whole days before I woke up. Apollo's eyes were bloodshot, but he refused to leave my side or rest even f

When Apollo and his warriors arrived at the border of the Faron Continent, the sight that welcomed them was chaos. A swath of trees had been knocked down, the ground was full of craters, and the earth itself had been torn apart. The scene made it easy to imagine just how fierce the battle had been.Despite his sinking heart, Apollo issued orders in a sharp voice. "Unit One, hunt down any remaining Rogues. Unit Two, follow me to treat the wounded… and to find her."The patrol members were injured to varying degrees—some severely, one had even lost an arm. When they saw the rescue team arrive, there were no smiles or relief, only grim, heavy expressions."Don't worry about us, Beta. Go… to the cliff base…" Angelo choked out, failing to finish his words. Not even the strongest werewolf could survive falling from such a great height—they would be crushed—never mind me, an Omega.Apollo's body visibly trembled, and his face turned ashen. He forced himself to stand firm, directing ever

Apollo took several deep breaths before forcing himself to calm down. "Alpha, I want to apply to go to the Faron Continent for battle. I'll personally find Nora."The elderly Alpha looked worn and sorrowful. He let out a long sigh. "Poor Nora… I shall grant your wish, Beta. Go, bring her back yourself."Without hesitation, Apollo returned at once to pack his things and gathered his elite warriors to depart for the Faron Continent together. When Bella heard the news, she rushed over in a panic to stop him. "You can't go, Apollo! It's too dangerous! The Rogues could end up killing you!"He turned to her, his tone cold and indifferent. "Fighting the Rogues is my duty. Not to mention, they killed my mate. I'll never let them go."She screamed in anger, "You're doing all this for Nora! What's so special about her that you'd risk your life just to find her?"Apollo slung his backpack over his shoulder and said only one thing, "She's my destined mate. She's irreplaceable."With that, h

Bella was so excited that her hands were trembling. At last, she could be openly with the man she loved. Before her fingers could touch the wedding gown, Apollo gently pushed her aside. Surprise flashed across his face. "Bella, you've always been a sister to me. How could we ever become mates?"She stared at him in disbelief. "I'm your childhood sweetheart, Apollo, not your actual sister. We're so close. Why can't we be mates?"Apollo held the wedding gown tightly, his expression lost and shaken. "I'm sorry, Bella. I didn't know you felt this way. The one person I love has always been Nora. I only ever saw you as my sister."She tried to speak again, but he cut her off. "That's enough. We'll never be together. You should give up."He turned and walked away. She called after him unwillingly. "She's gone, Apollo! The Spine of the World is dangerous—she might never even return! Can't you just forget her and be with me instead?"Apollo paused for a second, but he didn't say a single

Apollo stared blankly at the ruined wedding gown. He couldn't mutter, "It's okay," even if he tried, nor could he imagine how I would feel when I found out the gown was destroyed.Maybe I would cry in heartbreak, or maybe I would look at him with nothing but disappointment. Every possibility made his chest feel tight and heavy. In the end, he could only take the gown to a tailor. "The ceremony is tomorrow. Can you repair it as fast as possible and restore it to how it was? I'll pay whatever it costs!"The tailor examined the damage carefully and shook his head. "With only one day, it's impossible to restore it to its original state. You might try other master tailors."Apollo refused to give up. He carried the gown from shop to shop, but alas, not a single one could fix it. As time slipped away minute by minute, he was finally forced to give up.Bella had followed him around all day and was already full of resentment. When he finally stopped, she hurriedly put on a show of guilt.
