Amber’s POV

I sat on the edge of the bed, phone clutched tightly in my hands like it was the only thing keeping me from falling apart. My palms were clammy, and my heartbeat echoed loudly in my ears, drowning out the quiet hum of the ceiling fan above me.

It’s been a week. Exactly one week since I dropped off those DNA samples—the one I secretly snipped from the little boy and the other from Zed. One week since I asked the lab to run the tests not once, but over and over again to make absolutely sure.

Because this wasn’t just any test. This was the kind of truth that could burn everything I’ve built to the ground.

Zed and I have been married for five years. Five long, exhausting, beautiful and frustrating years. And in all that time… not once have I gotten pregnant.

At first, I blamed myself. Maybe I was broken. Maybe my body just wasn’t meant to carry life. I remember crying alone in the shower after another negative test, wondering what I did wrong. But then we both went to the hosp

River POV“All rise,” the bailiff’s voice echoed across the courtroom.I stood up slowly, hands clasped in front of me, heart pounding louder than I’d like to admit. The heavy silence in the room was suffocating. I glanced briefly at my client—a man in his early thirties, tired eyes, trembling fingers. I knew he was guilty of bad decisions, but I also believed he deserved a second chance. That had been the foundation of my argument. But apparently, it wasn’t enough. The judge cleared his throat and began to speak, his voice firm and steady.“After careful consideration of the evidence presented before this court… I find the defendant guilty of aggravated assault and obstruction of justice. He is hereby sentenced to five years in state prison.”My throat dried up.I

Amber POVMonday morning came with a cold edge in my bones. I’d barely slept, yet I was more alert than I had been in weeks.Everything was planned.I’d gone through the files again, triple-checked every detail, and reviewed the photographs. I knew what I had to do and there was no room for mistakes. Thanks to the information I’d gathered—and my well-placed spy—I knew what time he finished school. Even better, I knew my brilliant sister had a particular time she picked Steven up. The plan was simple. Arrive twenty minutes earlier. Blend in. Pretend to be River, and get some of Steven’s hair for the DNA test.We were identical twins after all, and I knew how to use that to my advantage. I skipped the bold makeup I usually wore, and picked out one of those plain, neutral outfits she liked. I stared at myself in the mirror before I left.It was jarring—how much I could look like her when I wanted to. Same hazel eyes, same bone structure, same lips. The only thing that ever truly set us

Amber POVI took it without hesitation, flipping it open. Inside were photographs, printed documents, timelines—his usual thorough work. My heart stopped for a second as my eyes landed on one image. A blurry photo of River at a small clinic. The date stamp? Six years ago.“Is this…?”He nodded. “That’s her first documented checkup after leaving Crescent Moon. According to the nurse I spoke to, she was already around two months pregnant.”I froze. My throat felt dry, like sandpaper had scraped the inside raw. “Are you sure?”“I cross-referenced the records with the patient ID and her signature. It’s legit,” he replied, tapping the photo. “She went by a different last name back then—Stellar-Rose—but it's her.”I shut the folder gen

Amber POVI practically dragged him by the arm into the living room, ignoring the annoyed expression on his face.“Come on, baby,” I said, tugging harder. “You promised you’d spend more time with me today.”“I never promised to watch some dumb movie,” he muttered, trying to pull his hand free.“Oh, stop being such a grump,” I whined, pouting dramatically. “It’ll be fun! We can cuddle, eat popcorn, and just relax like a normal couple for once.”He groaned. “Amber, I’m really not in the mood right now.”“You’re never in the mood ever since we came to meadows pack,” I grumbled, “you always made time for me, what changed?”“Amber, I said no.”I kept pushing, sliding in fro

  • Sleeping with the Alpha Who Despised Me   Chapter 112

River POVI stared at my phone for what felt like the hundredth time that morning. No new calls. No new messages. Nothing from Zed.I sighed and set the phone back on my desk, dragging a hand down my face.It was stupid, really. Completely, utterly stupid. But was it crazy that I missed his endless messages? The annoying calls, the flowers that always seemed to arrive at the worst times?Yes. Yes, it was completely insane.I shook my head at myself and tried to focus on the paperwork in front of me when I heard a soft knock on the door. Before I could even say "come in," the door cracked open and Hailey poked her head inside.“Hey girl,” she said with a bright smile, stepping fully into the office.I couldn’t help but return her smile, though it was a little tired. “Hey… How have you been?”
