Chapter 10

Aoife's wishes still lingered in my mind, even though I was here at work. I left Aoife in the hospital because she couldn't go out until she got better. I need to work for her treatment and also to pay back Sean's money. I can't shake the guilt of leaving her alone, but I know that working hard is the only way to ensure she gets the care she needs.

The cafe was not as busy as usual; I was the one who was assigned to the counter for tonight. As I took orders and served customers, I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease in my chest. Aoife's pale face and weak smile haunted me, reminding me of my responsibility to take care of her. I tried to focus on the task at hand, but my mind kept drifting back to the hospital room where I had left her.

The chime of the bell above the door brought me back to reality, and I forced myself to push aside my worries and concentrate on my work. I plaster a welcoming smile.
