Chapter 27: Hanging On

I took a deep breath as I walked onto the campus for the first time in months. So much had changed, and yet this place looked almost exactly the same as when I had left. Students bustled about, chatting and laughing as they made their way to classes. For a moment, it was easy to pretend I was just a normal college kid again.

But I knew the truth - I was here on a mission. After my conversation with Kian, I had focused all my energy on developing the perfect cover story. As far as anyone here knew, I had taken some time off to care for a sick family member. Now I was back, ready to finish my degree.

My first day went smoothly as I fell back into the routine of classes and studying in the library.
