Chapter 4

~ Elena’s POV~

I sat near the window, staring aimlessly at the sky painted in pink and blue hues. Birds soared freely, their wings gliding against the soft breeze. If only I could be free like them.

The door to my room burst open with a loud bang. My stepmother strutted in, arrogance dripping from every click of her heels. The maids followed behind her like obedient shadows. She was beautiful brown hair, striking blue eyes but behind that face was a heart as black as coal. God, how I loathe her.

“Stand up,” she ordered, a scowl twisting her features. I obeyed, confusion tugging at my brow

“Go take a shower,” she said sharply. “But I already—”

“Did I ask for your opinion?” she snapped, rolling her eyes. Without sparing me another glance, she barked orders at the maids. Before I could resist, they dragged me into the bathroom. After another bath, I emerged to find a dress laid neatly on my bed.

“You’re meeting your soon-to-be husband,” my stepmother announced, venom lacing her words. “At least look presentable. We wouldn’t want that ugly face of yours to scare him off.” My eyes widened in shock , I was meeting the devil.

The maids dressed me in a strapless white floral gown. My long dark hair was pulled into a high ponytail, a few strands framing my face. Handling a pair of black flats to complete the look. When they were done, my stepmother stood back, her blue eyes glinting with pure hatred.

“A maid will come for you later,” she said, voice dripping with mock authority. “Do not say a word. You know what your father will do if you mess this up.” She slammed the door behind her. I clenched my fists, swallowing the urge to scream. Dragging myself toward the mirror, I sighed. The reflection staring back at me wasn’t mine it was my mother’s. The same brown eyes. The same long dark hair. The same rosy lips. A tear slipped down my cheek. I wiped it away quickly, refusing to crumble.

One thought haunted me soon, I would face the devil in person. Just the thought sent shivers racing down my spine. A soft knock broke through my fear. When I opened the door, Jane, the head maid, stood there. She had always been like a mother figure to me. Her eyes softened with pity as she patted my shoulder.

“Everything’s going to be okay,” she whispered. I forced a smile, though inside I was breaking. Together, we descended the stairs. My heartbeat quickened with every step. My palms grew clammy. What if he’s one of those monstrous men with scary face and tattoos covering every inch of their skin? What if…

My thoughts froze as polished brown leather shoes entered my vision. slowly, I lifted my gaze, my breath catching in my throat.

He was tall at least six feet compared to my short height his tailored Armani suit molding perfectly to his chiseled body. Sharp jawline, thick brows, long lashes framing cold Gray eyes that pierced straight through me. His lips , soft and pink, looked as though they were sculpted by an artist. He was the embodiment of a Greek god powerful, magnetic, terrifying. But it was his eyes that rooted me in place. Cold gray orbs, sharp as steel, yet carrying shadows I couldn’t decipher. They held secrets… dangerous ones. His expression was unreadable, like a storm brewing behind calm waters.

Stop staring, Elena. He's the devil.

His gray eyes locked onto me with a predator’s focus. For a fleeting second, the corner of his lips twitched not quite a smirk, not quite a disdain just enough to unsettle me. My breath hitched, my chest tightening under the weight of that gaze. I tore my eyes away, forcing myself to look at the door, but the chill lingered as though he has branded me with it . Two towering men in black suits and sunglasses stood behind him ,his bodyguards, no doubt.

The silence in the room was deafening until my father cleared his throat.

“Mr. Romano,” he said, extending his hands

Adriano Romano’s gaze lingered on the hand for a moment before he shook it, slow and deliberate. My stepmother bowed slightly, smiling as if she hadn’t just spat venom at me upstairs.

“I’m Natasha,” she said sweetly . “This way, Mr. Romano.” My father gestured to a seat. Adriano sat with effortless authority, while I slipped into a chair as far away as possible.

“So, Mr. Romano,” my father began, his tone falsely confident. “As we agreed, I’m prepared to finalize the arrangement.” Adriano leaned back, his cold eyes sweeping around the room before settling on me. His voice, deep and commanding, carried a weight that silenced everyone.

“You know what I want,” he said. “Your shipping company controls the largest weapons import in this region. With it, my empire will expand beyond borders.”

My father chuckled lightly. “And in exchange, you gain not only the contracts, but my daughter’s hand. A marriage between our families ensures loyalty… and your legitimacy as the Don. It protects your people’s future.”

The air grew heavier. One of Adriano’s guards stepped forward, handing my father a document. a contract. My father signed with trembling eagerness, handing it back with a triumphant smile. Just like that, my fate was sealed.

I fought back tears, keeping my gaze fixed on the floor. When I finally looked up, Adriano’s eyes were already on me, sharp and unyielding. It felt less like a look and more like a claim. He stood. My father and stepmother scrambled to their feet, showering him with farewells. Adriano gave a slight nod, turned, and walked out, his men following close behind.

I stared after him, devastated. My life was no longer mine it belonged to the devil who had just sealed my future with a single signature.

What I didn't know was that Adriano Romano wasn't here for married alone.... he was here for vengeance.

~Adriano's Pov ~ Chapter 41 I shouldn’t have used those words on her. I took a long drag from my cigarette, exhaling slowly as I sat in the car outside the club, the bass thudding faintly through the tinted windows. When the words had left my mouth, I hadn’t missed the hurt in her eyes. The way her lashes trembled. The tears she tried and failedto hold back. A part of me ached at the sight of it. I ignored it. I checked my wristwatch and realized I’d stayed too long, lingering in thoughts I had no business entertaining. Stepping out of the car, I tossed the cigarette aside and slid my hands into my pockets, walking straight toward the club. Music slammed into me the moment I entered loud, I made my way into the VIP section. Vicente Montoya sat at the center, relaxed, surrounded by indulgence like a man who owned the room . The leader of the Spanish mafia. He approached me with an offer. He was also the reason I’d agreed to the honeymoon charade. “Adriano.” He called my name li

  • Sold To The Mafia Lord    Chapter 40 - Are you ashamed of me?

Chapter 40 ~ ELENA’S POV~ I sat at the edge of the bed, a book in my hands, but I barely read a word. My attention was entirely on Adriano. Ever since our not-so-perfect kiss, we hadn’t said much. It felt like he was avoiding me, placing a boundary between us, and I didn’t know how to cross it. He stood at the mirror, adjusting the tie of his perfectly fitted suit. His whole demeanor radiated power and confidence. I wanted to ask where he was going, but suddenly it felt impossible to approach him. Gathering my courage, I dropped the book on the bedside table and pushed myself to my feet. “Are you going somewhere?” I asked, silently cursing myself for sounding so timid. His back remained turned as he fastened his watch. “Yeah,” he muttered, low and void of any warmth. “Can I come too?” My voice trembled slightly. Staying in the hotel felt suffocating; I needed air, some distraction. “No.” His single word reply hit harder than I expected. “Why?” I frowned, trying to understand.

Chapter 39 ~ ELENA’S POV ~ I woke up to the room empty. Adriano was nowhere to be found. A soft groan escaped me as I rubbed my eyes, still half asleep. I pushed myself up from the bed and made my way to the bathroom, splashing my face with cold water to shake off the morning haze. After freshening up, I sat at the edge of the bed, staring at the empty space beside me. Where had he gone? Should I call him? My fingers hovered over my phone, but I hesitated. Ugh… I was already getting attached to his presence. My phone chimed, breaking my thoughts. Jaz. I smiled, reading her text, and quickly replied. It felt good to connect with someone familiar. A knock at the door startled me. My heart leapt ,maybe it was him? I rushed over, only to find a staff member holding a tray. Disappointment washed over me, and I scolded myself silently. Get a grip, Elena. “Your breakfast, ma’am,” he said, setting the cart down with a polite bow. I thanked him and watched him leave. The assortmen

Chapter 38 ~ ELENA’S POV ~ I woke up to someone tapping. I groaned softly, blinking my eyes open as sleep clung stubbornly to me. Adriano stood a few feet away, already dressed, already alert. “Get ready.” “Huh?” I mumbled, still half-asleep.He didn’t wait for a response. Turning on his heel, he walked away. I sighed and pushed myself off the bed, following him out. The moment I stepped outside, I realized we’d landed. We were at an airport. People moved around us, voices overlapping in different languages, the air buzzing with life. I looked around, trying to take it all in, wondering which foreign land my feet had just touched. A sleek black car pulled up in front of us. “Mr. Romano,” a man with reddish hair greeted. “I’m Joe, your assigned driver.” He turned to me and bowed slightly. I returned the gesture with a polite smile, still getting used to all the bowing that seemed to follow Adriano everywhere. Adriano moved ahead without a word. Joe helped with my luggage befor

  • Sold To The Mafia Lord    Chapter 37 - Just this once

Chapter 37 ~ ELENA’S POV ~ The car screeched to a halt. His men stepped out first, pulling the door open for him. Moments later, another door opened for me. “Thank you,” I muttered softly as I got down. Adriano moved ahead without looking back. I followed, my eyes taking everything in. It was… quiet. Too quiet. Nothing like the noisy airports I’d seen on television no crowds, no announcements, no chaos. Just silence, broken only by the sound of footsteps and our luggage rolling behind us, carried by his men. We stopped in front of a hangar. A sleek black jet stood there, polished and intimidating, its surface gleaming under the lights. My jaw dropped before I could stop it. I was still staring when a man’s voice broke through my thoughts. “Good day, sir. Ma’am.” He bowed slightly, and I almost sighed. What was it with people always bowing around Adriano? He really is the most feared man. “I’m Simon, your pilot for today.” Adriano nodded once. I offered a small smil

Chapter 36 ~ Elena’s POV ~ “Lorenzo, hop in!” Jaz called out. She and Santo were already heading for Santo’s car. I opened the passenger door of Adriano’s car and settled in beside him. “Yeah, I’m good,” Lorenzo replied, waving them off. “I’m not being the third wheel for either of you.” He rolled his eyes dramatically before walking to his own car. I couldn’t stop the quiet laugh that slipped out. Once I fastened my seatbelt, a small smile tugged at my lips. I wasn’t sure why I felt… almost excited. Maybe because Adriano was coming with us today. Maybe because the atmosphere between us wasn't as tense as before. I glanced at him only for my breath to hitch a little. He was already looking at me. In a black polo t-shirt , paired with blue denim loose jeans, his sunglasses hung from the opening of his shirt . He looked effortlessly handsome. The small earring on his ear only sharpened his features even more. For a moment, something softer flickered in his eyes. Just a second… an
