Chapter 2

Asher’s POV

The sound of knocking on my office door brought me out of my thoughts, the smell of pine wood immediately notified me of the presence of my beta Derek.

“Come on in Derek” I said while trying to sort out the paper works on my desk.

“Alpha” he said, bowing his head slightly as a sign of respect.

Derek Shale, one of my betas, a brother of mine, my loyal right hand man. Cold and calculating in nature, but not someone to be underestimated. 

Dale Shale, my other beta, also a brother of mine, is my left hand man. Fiery and hot-tempered in nature, a flirt and the pack's playboy, also Derek’s twin. Strong and loyal at heart too. Derek and Dale have been close to me since we were children, they are my childhood friends. 

We may not be brothers by blood, but we are brothers bound by our pain, suffering and loyalty to each other.

“It’s time for us to leave now” he said from where he stood by the door.

“Yeah, I almost forgot about that. All these paper works and petitions took most of my time” I said standing up and following him out to where Dale was waiting for us by the car. The smell of mint hitting me reminded me of his presence.

Today was the day I finally collected the debt I am owed by Alpha Nicholas. I could feel the agitation from my pack betas. We all know how cunning the Alpha can be. It could be a trap for all we know, but we are going in prepared for anything that might happen.

Marcel was already at the wheel waiting for us to get in.

“Alright then, let’s go. I can’t wait to see what other tricks Nicholas has up his sleeve. Still can’t think of why he is willing to sell his daughter to me just like that to pay his debt”

The ride to Alpha Nicholas house was so quiet until Derek finally spoke up, breaking the silence.

“What do you think will be the reason for Alpha Nicholas to want to trade his daughter to you? I mean he could have given you half of his pack land or something? Derek asks, turning back to look at me.

“Hmm, I have my suspicions on it too. Except she really isn’t his daughter or he’s sending her as a spy or an assassin to take me down. You never can tell with his cunning ways. We can’t let our guard down”

“Hmm, I agree with you on it. It might be a trap or one of his ploys to take you down.” Dale says while twitching his blade in his hands. A habit he does only when he’s nervous or something’s bothering him.

Alpha Nicholas and his betas were already waiting at the entrance for our arrival, guess he’s waiting to see if we will show up. The tension in the air makes my wolf agitated, he is at alert, all senses heightened just in case the Alpha tries something funny.

I could feel the tension rolling off from Derek and Dale, they are also wary of the situation and also at alert incase of any ambush.

“Welcome Alpha Asher” Alpha Nicholas says as he walks up to us greeting, his betas by his side bowing their heads in respect to me.

“Thank you, let’s get down to business, shall we?” I ask, staring him down, a gesture to show I'm still in charge here, even on his territory.

“Right. Please come this way. Everyone is waiting at the clearing.” he gestured towards the entrance.
