Lina’s POV

“The same Carlino Lacentra?” Dad’s voice came out low. Too low. Like he was trying to keep something from snapping.

I didn’t look away. “Yes,” I replied.

The deafening quiet didn’t just fall, it slammed into the room.

Mom’s lips parted, but no words came out at first. DHer eyes searched my face like she was hoping—praying, I would laugh and say it was a joke.

I didn’t.

“The Carlino Lacentra… you mean?” she finally stammered, her voice barely holding together.

I nodded once.

  • Sold to the Mafia king    Chapter 135: Ruciano came back

Carlino’s POVMaking that decision hadn’t been easy, but for once, I wanted to believe she could fight for herself. Lina had never been weak. Letting Ruciano return to her life could ruin the fragile peace she had built over the years, but I was willing to take that risk. I wanted to trust her strength instead of constantly stepping in to save her.I remained inside the house directly opposite hers, watching silently from behind drawn curtains. I had bought the place the moment I moved to California. The decision had been impulsive, driven by one thing alone—I needed to stay close to her without her ever knowing. All this time, no one in that house had ever seen me leave or enter mine. I existed like a ghost on the other side of the street, blending so perfectly into the shadows that my presence became invisible.I had watched her the entire day. Everything had been normal. The same routine she followed every other day unfolded exactly the same today, and for a while, I allowed myself

  • Sold to the Mafia king    Chapter 134: From the shadows

Carlino’s POVCalifornia didn’t feel real the first time I came. Not after everything. Not after the blood, funerals, wars, executions, and crowns heavy enough to crush a man alive.Yet here I was, standing across the street from a small white house with chipped paint near the mailbox and flower pots hanging by the porch. A normal house. A peaceful house. Lina’s house, her home.My hands stayed buried inside the pockets of my coat as I watched the curtains shift slightly from the evening breeze. The neighborhood was quiet. Safe. Children rode bicycles farther down the street while some old man watered his lawn like the world had never known violence. It felt distant from me. Like I didn’t belong anywhere near it.Maybe I didn’t.My gaze lifted toward the second-floor window. A warm yellow light glowed behind it. She was in there. Alive. Breathing. Free. For years, that had been enough to keep me away. I had promised myself I wouldn’t interfere with her life anymore. That I wouldn’t dr

  • Sold to the Mafia king    Chapter 133: The cruelty of finally letting go

Lina’s POVAs he walked farther away from me, he continued fading, until I lost sight of him.Not literally because I could still see the outline of his back disappearing into the distance, tall and composed like he hadn’t just ripped my chest open. But everything around me blurred slowly after that. The sounds of children laughing. The evening breeze. The rustling leaves above us.All of it became distant.I could only hear my heartbeat. Loud. Painfully loud.It echoed inside my ears like something breaking apart over and over again. My chest hurt so badly I almost pressed my hand against it to make sure my heart was still there.Because it genuinely felt like Carlino had taken it with him again.Years later…And he still had that kind of power over me.My throat tightened painfully. I tried swallowing it down. Tried forcing myself to breathe normally. But God… How was I supposed to breathe after hearing him say there was no “we” anymore? How was I supposed to stand there pretending

  • Sold to the Mafia king    Chapter 132: There's no we anymore

Lina’s POVSo he was the one who had fought Ruciano. He was the one… how could I not think of this?“Y… you have been the one in the shadows all this while. You even go to Rotha and Erla's school. Gracious good Lord.”I used my hand to rub my face.“We need to talk,” I said after exhaling. “Baby, you both should go play with Lucy over there, and don't move away from there. I would be watching you from over here, okay?”“But mama—” Erla tried to argue.“Erla,” I interrupted softly. “Please. Do this for me and keep an eye on your sister.”Rotha gasped dramatically. “Why do I always need supervision?”“Because last week you tried to chase somebody’s dog home.”“It liked me!”“It nearly bit you.”“That’s because Erla screamed and scared it!”“I screamed because you touched a strange animal!”“It wagged its tail!”I closed my eyes briefly.Carlino looked down, and I could swear the corner of his mouth twitched faintly. That alone nearly destroyed my composure.“Girls,” I warned carefully.

  • Sold to the Mafia king    Chapter 131: The man at the park

Lina’s POV I stared at Agatha, silently feeding on every word she said. She was right. If Carlino had truly left that world behind… would I even survive in the new one he created for himself? Would it finally be peaceful? Or would chaos simply wear a different face this time? Yes, I loved him. That was the problem. I loved him enough to be able to let myself destroy if I wasn’t careful. But my children? No matter how deeply I loved Carlino, I could never drag Rotha and Erla into danger just because my heart refused to let go. I released a long breath, my fingers tightening around the glass of water in my hand. Agatha watched me quietly before speaking again. “Lina, emotions are complex. What makes us human is how we're made up, the emotions we feel, and how we control those emotions so they don't control us,” she said subtly. “I…” My voice faded. “Listen to me, Lina. I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm not saying it's stupid to feel this way. I'm not saying loving him could cage y

  • Sold to the Mafia king    Chapter 17: A Seat at the table

Lina’s POVThe punishment didn’t stop.It evolved.Doors that used to open now required permission. Corridors that once felt endless now felt measured — patrolled. Even the garden had guards posted like decorative statues with guns.I tested it anyway

  • Sold to the Mafia king    Chapter 20: Shifting shadows

Lina’s POVThe halls smelled faintly of polish and cold air, the kind that seemed to settle over power like a second skin. Guards walked past silently, their eyes flicking toward me, unreadable. Some lingered a second too long, then looked away. The air felt heavier than usual, as though

  • Sold to the Mafia king    Chapter 18: Things I wasn't meant to see

Lina’s POVThe meeting room was colder than the rest of the house. Not in temperature. In feeling. Men filled the long table, their suits dark, their expressions darker. Conversations died as I stepped in beside Carlino. Not because I was important. Because I was unexpected.

  • Sold to the Mafia king    Chapter 16: The cost of a voice

Lina’s POV Punishment in this house never arrived screaming. It came neat. Silent. Calculated. Like him.I knew I’d crossed a line at dinner the night before. I just didn’t think the line would bleed this much. It happened after the wine was poured and the men started
