Chapter 3 The New Woman

Author: J.J. Twelve
A pair of men in black followed the woman closely, holding umbrellas over her head.

Sylvie Stanton looked at the knocked-out Evan, worried sick. "Oh no, what have I done? Do you think he's still alive?"

She was five-foot-seven and radiated an air of regality. Even a frown looked like something straight out of a perfect drama.

One of the bodyguards said hurriedly, "We don't have time to deal with this, Ms. Stanton. Old Mr. Stanton's getting worse. He’s dying!"

Sylvie said nothing, but the panic on her face was oozing. Her lips were pale. "But he…" She was still worried about him. After all, she did crash into Evan.

"Nothing we can do about it. No one could've expected this. No one could've reacted in time with how heavy the rain is."

"Yeah, Ms. Stanton. Old Mr. Stanton is more important. We'll just give this guy some money. It'll be fine!"

Both bodyguards chimed in agreement. To them, this was nothing money couldn't fix, and the person who was hit was of no real consequence.

The rain was crashing down on Evan's face. He was thrown away like some unwanted doll. Sylvie could not abandon him. She picked Evan up and ran into the car.

"Ms. Stanton, what are you…" The bodyguards were in disbelief. This was the princess of the Stantons, one of Dragania's Big Four. She was the pride and joy of Stanton the Iron Dragon, guardian of South Dominion, and now she was holding a man she did not know.

"Take him to the best hospital there is!" barked Sylvie coldly.

"Yes, Ms. Stanton!"

The car drove away, heading toward Silverton Mercy Hospital.

The heiresses had no idea Evan got hit by a car. They were still shocked by Evan's outburst. His message of cutting ties with them still rang in their ears.

His use as a blood bank aside, the heiresses should be happy that he wanted to cut ties with them, but for some reason, they were not. They were empty.

Finally, Roxanne couldn't hold it in. "I should check on him."

"No," replied Hazel coolly. "It’s just an act. He can't live without us. Besides, I gave him a month of grace period. He'll get over it."

She thought Evan could not live without them. He would have no home to go to, and the guy he crossed three years ago would hunt him down.

They spent 150 million and bought their way to Evan's peace, after which that person stopped coming after Evan.

However, things would change once he left the Solbergs.

Anya looked at Hazel and asked, "What if he does go on with the divorce in the end, Hazel?"

Hazel looked away, but she did not answer right away.

Then, Zeke's voice echoed. "Are you going to see Evan?"

He sat up straight but hung his head low. "Go. I only have six months left to live anyway. That won't change no matter how much blood he gives me."

That shocked the heiresses, who quickly huddled around Zeke. Agitated, Hazel said, "You won't die, Zeke! I won't let that happen! I'll save you no matter what it takes!"

"Right, Evan is giving you his blood!" Anya commented. "As long as he's around, you won't die!"

Roxanne agreed, "We're going nowhere! We're staying with you! Your job is to survive, Zeke!"

The ladies were going through a rollercoaster of emotions, and they teared up.

A doctor came in with a few bags of blood. "We have more blood now, Mr. Carter."

"New blood?" Roxanne was stunned. "I thought the bank's out of Zeke's blood type!"

"I just got news myself. Someone with the same blood type showed up," said the doctor.

The ladies' eyes shone. They quickly asked, "Can you find out who the donor is?"

They did have Evan, but what if he died someday? That would hurt Zeke. Another person with the same blood type was a layer of insurance they desperately needed.

"We can't. They specifically said it's anonymous and wanted us to keep it a secret." The doctor shook his head.

The heiresses frowned. They exchanged a look, and Hazel said, "Please, help us out. You must find that donor. We'll give you something great in return!"

"I…" The doctor sighed. "Fine, I'll see what I can do."

Zeke was also surprised about the news. If his blood bank had a new replacement, he could finally kill Evan. That guy's only purpose was to give him blood. That was why he wanted to keep him close.

They of course had no idea that the donor was Evan himself. He was in another ward as they spoke.

Sylvie was on a call, and her face was a mask of frigidity. "I know what I'm putting on the line here, Uncle. You do not have to tell me twice. I will survive this year, I swear."

She hung up in a huff, her chest heaving. She tried to calm herself down, but it was proving hard to do.

One of the bodyguards whispered, "Are you sure Silverton has anyone or anything that can help you survive the year, Ms. Stanton?"

Sylvie said, "No, but Grandpa said it’s my only hope, and it only appears when there's one year left on the clock." A frown furrowed her brows.

"But the Iron Dragon ran into a horrifying car crash right after we stepped into this city, and his life is on the line. Even you ran into someone, Ms. Stanton. This isn't a good sign."

The frown deepened. Sylvie sighed. "Guess we'll have to take it one step at a time. And Grandpa's accident was no coincidence. Someone's behind it. Now we have to figure out how to heal him."

The doctor came out. "Are you the victim’s family? His report's out."

The bodyguard said, "We're not…"

Sylvie took the report. "Give it to me." She scanned the report, and the results stunned her. "What? He only suffered minor scrapes on his head? Is this a joke?"

She thought she was seeing things, but when she focused her mind, the result was still the same.

She called her bodyguards. "Hey, you two! Come here! I need you to check the guy!"

The bodyguards were twins and were veteran martial artists. They knew injuries better than most people.

All the more reason they were shocked by Evan’s lack of injuries.

"No way this is true! He was hit by a car moving at high speeds, and he got away with scrapes on his head! Not even Hardbody Technique users can do that!"

The crash left a vivid mark on everyone's mind. The car was moving at 180 mph, and the guy was flung a hundred feet into the distance. Blood came out of him like he was a fountain, and now he only got away with scrapes. This was impossible.

Suddenly, they gasped. "He's waking up!"

Seeing how decisively he moved, Rosa hurriedly tried to stop him.Even though Hazel had clearly said that the divorce registration had to be signed, Rosa still wanted to give Evan a chance—to back out before the pen hit the paper. That way, everyone could still walk away happy."Will you stop dragging this out?" Evan urged impatiently. "I've got things to do later!""Mr. Solberg—"Evan snapped. "Do you not understand plain English? First, you told me to sign; now, you're telling me to think it over. What exactly do you want?"Rosa was startled into silence. The courthouse clerk glanced at Evan and Rosa and reminded them, "Sir, Miss, are you certain you want to sign the divorce registration? Once you sign, it becomes legally effective.""Yes," Evan replied curtly. With no other choice, Rosa handed over Hazel's identification documents. The clerk looked at the computer screen, then at Evan, and shook his head. "That's not right…""What's not right?" Rosa asked in surprise."The

It was far too abnormal. The entire Silverton elite circle knew that Evan couldn't live without the three heiresses. It was also common knowledge that he was nothing more than Zeke's substitute. In that case, why would Evan agree so readily?'Ms. Solberg is clearly serious this time. Once the divorce registration is signed, it will carry legal force…'Yet Evan had only paused for a token moment before agreeing. It completely shattered Rosa's expectations. In her mind, Evan should have reacted as if facing a catastrophe—emotional, agitated, demanding to know why. How could he be so calm, so… unbothered? Almost as if he genuinely wanted a divorce.Meeting Rosa's puzzled, conflicted, and faintly anxious gaze, Evan smiled lightly. "Why wouldn't I agree? Isn't this what Hazel wants? I'm just giving her what she asked for. She and her Zeke must've been having a great time lately, right? Once she divorces me, is she planning to marry Zeke next?"Every word Evan spoke felt barbed. Even Ro

'If Evan finds out about this, he might even applaud.'Evan had brought up divorce long ago. Stefan and Cynthia had thought there might still be room to turn things around—but now their daughter was making it real. Neither of them could accept it."Hazel, listen to me," Cynthia pleaded softly. "This marriage can't end. Go talk things through properly with Evan. Family harmony matters more than anything…"But Hazel had already made up her mind. She was determined to give Evan a proper warning. "Enough, Mom. I promise you, this divorce won't go through. Once Evan signs and regrets it, he'll withdraw the application…""Promise, your foot!" Stefan finally snapped, unable to hold back. "How are you so sure that Evan will regret it and withdraw the application? You can forget about getting his ID card! And you're not going anywhere—stay home!""Dad! You have no idea how rebellious Evan's been lately! He even started following me!" Hazel's temper flared as well, seeing that Stefan wouldn

'Gasp!'The villa instantly fell into a dead hush. No one spoke. Everyone was too stunned to react, but once they recovered, Roxanne and Anya fired off questions one after another."Hazel, are you serious?""You're really going to divorce Evan? I thought you were just saying it in anger…"Even Zeke looked taken aback, coughing lightly as he spoke in a show of concern. "Hazel, don't divorce Evan because of me. Even if it's just for show, you shouldn't. I may not be the one who married you, but Evan has still put in years of effort. What you're doing will hurt him badly…""And whose fault is it that he's been so disobedient lately—and even hit Zeke!" Hazel's eyes flashed coldly. "When I first mentioned the cooling-off period, it was just to make him understand his place. But what did he do instead? Just because he donated blood to Zeke, he started pushing his luck. Since that's the case, I'll make it real. I'll have him sign the divorce registration and see if he panics then."Roxa

Evan let out a cold laugh. Hazel clearly still had no idea that he had already severed ties with her family.'Did her parents not tell her?'Whatever the reason, Evan didn't bother dwelling on it. Whether she knew or not didn't matter anymore. All that remained was the one-month cooling-off period. Once it passed, the divorce would be final—for real this time.…Inside Villa No. 9, the three heiresses had gathered to discuss what to do about Evan."Evan's really lost his sense of self these past couple of days. He was already acting strange at the hospital, and it's only gotten worse since then."To them, everything Evan had done—his sudden change in demeanor, moving out of the Solberg Residence, following them around, turning cold and hostile, even losing control and hitting Zeke—was nothing more than a display of dissatisfaction aimed at them. And it was getting on their nerves.Hazel said nothing. She simply picked up her phone and called her mother, Cynthia. The moment the c
