"Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday! Happy birthday! Happy birthday to you!"
The party was held inside the house and was officially opened at six o'clock in the evening. The celebrant's relatives were also invited. Uno and I were introduced to them. They found him adorable. They believed that Uno looked like Jonas.
"Honey, have some shot," Jacob offered her a shot glass.
It was already late in the evening. After the dinner, we had some conversation then the guests went home after that. Uno was already asleep even before the invitees went home.
Jacob already had three shots. He started the fun and now he's kind of tipsy.
"I don't drink, Jacob," Honey refused as she waved her hands dismissively.
"You still don't drink? My god, Honey!"
They laughed at Jacob's statement but Honey seemed fine. It seemed like she got used in being tease
The following morning, I woke up early. When I went down the stairs, I saw Tessa busy with her stuff. She was holding a sako bag, the one that Manang usually used when going to the market."Where are you heading to?" I asked her."I'm going to the market, ate. You wanna go with me?""Uhm," I was having a doubt. I wasn't used to going places like public market. I didn't like dirty places."You're probably not used to that kind of place," she said and continued what she was doing."I'm going with you," I declared. She looked at me strangely. "Okay." She shrugged.I went back to the room to check Uno. He was sleeping peacefully. I texted Jonas I was going to the market with Tessa. He hadn't replied yet so I decided to go down the stairs."Let's go?" I said to her."Sure."So, we went to the market. I was watc
"Lihiro naman mu inom," Lola Helena commented as she was watching Uno drink from the glass. "Tiguwang naman na, dong." (He seemed expert in drinking water. He's getting older.""Lagi, Ma. Dali ra man ag adlaw." "I agree, Ma. Time flies so fast.)"Unja? Muuli namo ugma?" (So, you're going back to Manila tomorrow?)"Oh. Naa nama'y ticket." (Yes, Ma. We already have our ticket.)"Kanus a man mo mubalik?" (When will you come back again?)"Wa pay sure, Ma. Naa man koy trabaho." (We aren't sure Ma. I still have work to finish.)"Sija diay? Wa pa diay nay trabaho?" (What about your wife? Does she have plan on working again?)"Sugot man sija nga mag-work. Baylo mi." (She agreed she will go back to work. We're changing position.)"Ikaw bantay ug bata?" (You wi
Later that afternoon, Jonas and I went out to buy some snacks. We left Uno to Tessa and Lola Helena for the mean time. Jonas wanted me to explore Sogod so he brought me with him."I can't believe tha mall and the market are just in one place," I said while rooming my eyes around."When I was a kid, I used to spend my time here," he said. He reached for my hand and intertwined it with his. "Whenever I am hungry in the afternoon, this is where I usually go—here in Manang Rosa's place. She had a cafeteria before. Me and my friends loved to eat there.""Is Honey your childhood bestfriend?"He peered at my side and nodded. "We met here.""What made you like her?""She's so simple, smart and fun. She's kind too and hardworking.""Ah," I nodded and looked around again. "I wonder if you two didn't break up, you think you guys have built your own family now?"
"I'm not mad at anyone. I'm mad at what happened," I said for the nth time.I took Uno upstairs and planned to put him to sleep. Jonas followed us. When Uno and I arrived inside our room, I breastfed him."Who won't get mad at what happened?" I added.Jonas was just silent (as always when I got mad). Good thing I wasn't looking at him. I was staring at Uno who was sleeping already."Let's just go home, Joe. I can't take it anymore," I confessed. "We won't survive here.""Sorry..." was the only word he could utter."I don't know if they are malicious or it's just their nature."I was really mad at what happened. Uno's life was at risk. It was fine with me if they didn't like me. How can they be so immature for targetting Uno as well?"I'm not letting anyone hurt my baby," I said in gritted teetg.I studied Uno's bare face.
I washed all the dishes. It was my first time to do iy so. The soap was too harsh for my skin but it was full of bubbles. It was a yellow-colored liquid dishwashing soap."Love, I think Uno pooped-"I whirled around. Jonas immediately met my eyes. He was carrying Uno in his arms, paharap sa'kin. He looked surprised upon seeing me like this."I'll just finish this love. Does he smell awful already?" I responded."Yes, love. But, I think I'll be the one to do it.""Can you do it?""Yes, love." He smiled sweetly. Seconds passed when he brought Uno back to our room again. After washing the dishes, I cleaned the entire sink. That was what Manang usually did after washing the dishes.I realized how hardworking our helpers were and how patient they were. I thought it was a common household chore but when I did it myself, it was pretty hard. Back
"Sorry, Mommy. I was just so busy," I said apologetically. It was eleven in the evening and we were preparing to sleep. Jonas told me to call Mommy so she wouldn't worry about me. Both Jonas and Uno were still awake but the people inside here had fallen asleep already."Is everything fine there?" She asked worriedly. Her eyes told me she knew what was going on."We're good, Mommy. We'll be going back tomorrow.""You've got a lot of stuff to share to Mommy."I smiled bitterly. I was so lucky to have a mother like her. She was my living diary, literally sharing almost everything to her. I wouldn't be like this if it wasn't because of her."Sure, Mommy. I miss you so much.""I miss you too, honey. We'll meet soon.""I badly want it to happen. I love you, Mommy.""I love you too, sweetheart. It's time to rest now. You have to wake up early tomorrow. Where is Uno by the way? Is he still wide awake?""Yes, Mommy. He sle
"When Honey and I got together, we promised to each other that we will build a happy family and we won't let anyone destroy us. It's funny to think that she destroyed us first," he told me.I looked up ay him. He was looking down, probably shedding some tears. He didn't want me to see his weak side. It was, as if, an ego-stepping."When she left, it was hard for me to recover... I was back to zero again. Then I realized she was like my mother. But I didn't blame her for choosing her dreams over me. If I was her, I'd do the same.""Did you regret anything?" I asked in a manner that he would not feel offended."None," he looked up at me. His eyes were wet but they were happy. "I didn't regret anything because I met you and we have Uno now."I fell silent, too overwhelmed by his answer."What about your father? Where is he now?" I asked when I recovered."He'
10:05 in the morning when we landed on NAIA terminal 3. Manong fetched us and brought us home immediately. Uno fell asleep when we got home so I put him on his crib while Jonas carried our luggage up to our room."Have some rest, love. Uno is still sleeping," Jonas said while he was changing his clothes."What about you? Will you report to the office immediately?""Yes, love. I'll check what I've missed in the office.""Okay, love. Take care."Jonas went to me, eyes on me. He leaned closer, fixed my hair and kissed my forehead."I'll be right back. Should I buy you something?""No need, love. You won't go home late, will you?"He shook his head lightly. "I'll go home immediately. You sure you don't need anything?"I nodded. He smiled again and kissed my forehead."I love you," he whispered."I love you too."He held my chin and leaned closer. He captured my lips and I quickly melted. I lied down on b
