Chapter 7

Author: Embracing Crane
The day before the wedding, the venue was decorated with a sea of pink roses. The wedding dress had also been decided. It was pink and matched with a pink necklace and veil.

Edwin held Euri’s hand as they headed to the hotel for their wedding rehearsal.

When they arrived, Edwin kissed Euri gently on the forehead, but she did not react. She picked up the card in her hand and read it stiffly in a daze. "For poorer or for rich, I, Kiara, will… Kiara?"

Euri paused.

Everyone at the rehearsal was taken aback, and the wedding emcee glanced at the card with a questioning look. "Isn’t the bride’s name Euri? Did someone get the card wrong?"

A staff member dashed forward and snatched the card from Euri’s hand. "I’m so sorry. I gave you the wrong card. It was a printing mistake."

Euri looked up at Edwin and asked, "Is that true?"

Edwin frowned as he clenched the card in his hand. "That’s enough. This is only a rehearsal. You’ll enter into deep sleep tomorrow, anyway. You can treat this as preparation for when you wake up later."

Euri smiled softly. "You’re right. We’re finally getting married. Your wish has finally come true."

It was the first time in many days that Euri smiled, but somehow, it only made Edwin worried. For some reason, he felt like something bad was about to happen. "I promise to give you another wedding when you wake up, Euri."

He held her hand tightly, as if afraid she would run away, but Euri ignored him. She continued numbly with the rehearsal, no longer caring if the cards said Kiara or Euri.

Halfway through the rehearsal, the chandelier upstairs started to crack. It fell in an instant and looked like it was about to fall on Edwin. Euri’s chest tightened at the sight, and she rushed forward instinctively to push him away.

The next second, her parents dashed toward her to push her out of the way. "Look out, Kiara!"

Smash!

The chandelier fell about two feet away from them.

It was a close call, and Euri’s father was shocked and angry. He raised his hand and slapped Euri hard. "How can you not take better care of your body? Tomorrow is the day Kiara will return! Are you trying to make your sister bear the consequences of your doing?"

Euri lowered her head, and her cheek stung from the pain.

Edwin came over quickly to check Euri’s swollen cheek, and his tone turned cold. "You shouldn’t have slapped her, Mr. Scott."

Euri looked at him hopefully, thinking he was speaking on her behalf, but the next second, Edwin said, "Kiara will be marrying me tomorrow. It will be difficult for the swollen cheek to heal in time. She’ll be upset about this."

All Euri could do was laugh in a self‑deprecating manner.

Euri’s father’s face fell while her mother grew anxious. "This can’t do. Euri will find all sorts of ways to hurt herself because she can’t let go of the fact that you’ll be marrying Kiara. You should lock her up until tomorrow."

Her words prompted Euri to look calmly at Edwin. "Do you feel the same way?"

Edwin sighed. "I’ve prepared some sleeping pills for you. All you have to do is take a nap. Once you’re awake, I’ll plan the grandest wedding for you."

After that, Euri’s parents dragged her into the room and placed the bottle of sleeping pills on the table. Euri sat at the edge of the bed and looked at her parents. "Mom, Dad, have you always wanted only one daughter?"

Euri’s mother choked at the question. "What nonsense are you talking about? Even though you’re not as obedient or as sweet as Kiara, you’re still our daughter."

However, Euri could see clearly from her mother’s eyes that she felt sorry that Kiara was not here. She tried her best to be a good daughter and worked hard to be better, but all she really was to her parents was a burden.

It felt like someone punched a big hole in her heart, and it hurt so much that she could hardly breathe. "All right, Mom and Dad. From now on, your wish will come true."

Euri’s mother felt a pang in her heart. "I know you’re jealous that your sister saved Edwin, but without her, you wouldn’t even see him today."

She kept chattering, but Euri only smiled bitterly. "Mom, do you really think Kiara would jump into the sea to save Edwin when she doesn’t know how to swim?"

Euri’s mother immediately stopped talking when she heard this, and her face flushed red. "When it comes to life and death, who knows?"

Her mother might have guessed the truth long ago, but she knew her youngest daughter was in love with Edwin. "Edwin is already yours, Euri. Just let your sister have his gratitude."

She patted Euri’s hand, but Euri’s heart chilled completely. She did not lose her temper or insist that the truth be told. She only nodded gently. "All right."

Euri lowered her head and swallowed the bitter pills without water. The pills slid down her throat like razors, and soon, she started to feel dizzy.

She had no idea how much time passed when Edwin entered the room in his wedding suit, looking handsome and gentle as always. He sat next to Euri in bed as he always did and bent over to kiss her gently on the forehead.

"We’ll be married once you wake up, Euri. You can pick out your favorite wedding dress and ring after that."

A tear fell from Euri’s eye.

No, she would not. They would never get married.

"No." A man roared next to Euri’s ear, and her parents sobbed while rushing forward to grab her hand, refusing to let her leave."Master Simeon, I have said all I have to. Goodbye."He looked on forlornly at everything that was happening and sighed without making any effort to convince Euri to stay. The next second, Euri closed her eyes as all three of them cried and pleaded for her not to go, and she fell unconscious to the ground. They lunged forward and surrounded her body anxiously.Edwin looked at Master Simeon in disbelief. "Did you not say we could choose one person? I chose my wife, but why did she not come back? Were you lying to me?"Master Simeon shook his head. "Under normal circumstances, it would be possible, but this young lady’s spirit is in a very weak state, and it was vanishing because she had been losing attachments to this world. She would not be able to last long here."Moreover, her will to live is very weak. Even if we force her spirit into this body, her

When they next appeared in front of Master Simeon, the look in his eyes was sharper than before. He stared at all three of them. "Are you sure about this?""We are sure." Edwin nodded without hesitation. "I want my wife, Euri, back by my side. She is the only one I want."Euri’s parents nodded as well. They had become utterly disappointed with Kiara’s behavior during this time. "We are choosing our older daughter too. Compared to Kiara, Euri is our best daughter."Kiara, who was tied up, looked at them with hate.Master Simeon nodded and looked at Euri, who floated in the air. "Are you willing to return, young lady?"Everyone became shocked as they looked up.Edwin’s eyes widened as he looked up in the air, with joyful tears in his eyes. "I knew it. I knew the person I saw that day was you." He was almost crying happily. "I regret what I did, Euri. Please come home with me, all right? Come home, and we can start over again."Euri looked coldly at them and shook her head solemnly

Despite everything that had happened, Euri’s parents did not give up on Kiara. When they returned from the hospital, they locked Kiara at home and made her study everything Euri had studied."Kiara, you will be able to get a good job once you grasp these skills.""That is right. You will do better than Euri.""No. I do not want to."Kiara retaliated and pushed her mother. She almost fell, but Euri’s father managed to grab her. He became enraged and slapped Kiara.Slap."Shut up and start studying right now. You are not allowed to go out anymore."Kiara staggered from the slap, and her face became swollen. She held her hand to her cheek, and her eyes widened in disbelief. She never thought that the father who always doted on her would slap her. "How can you slap me, Dad?"This time, her parents no longer showered her blindly with love. They had become fed up with her."Do you not deserve the slap? You have been pampered too much by us."Euri’s mother started to cry. "Look at

Kiara started to become obsessed with going to interviews. If she did not use Euri’s accomplishments, she received only a few interview opportunities, but if she used Euri’s accomplishments, the interviewers requested that she demonstrate her skills. Eventually, Kiara kept getting rejected. She was asked to leave politely, yet sarcastically, and after numerous rejections, something in her finally broke.Kiara slapped the interviewer and created a huge scene at the company. "Why are you asking me to leave when you are the one who requested an interview after reading my resume? You have to apologize to me!"The interviewer was enraged after being slapped. "Are you serious? Your resume states that your German is at the C1 level, and you earned full marks in your oral test, but you cannot even speak basic German when we tried to converse with you."When we asked you about your awards, you could not explain how you earned them, which proves that they are not yours. When Edwin and Euri first entered a relationship, he felt sad for her because she could only be awake during autumn and winter, and he made a promise to her."When we get married, I will take you to Mali Island for our honeymoon and to tropical countries. I will do everything I can to make up for what you lost in experiencing spring and summer."Euri was so touched that she started to tear up, and she held his hand. "You do not have to do that. It is summer to me where you are."For a long time, they stayed together, and they spent many sweet moments together.Edwin was always busy at work, but no matter how late he came home, Euri always waited for him with a hot bowl of soup. When he told her that his stomach was not feeling great, Euri secretly learned recipes that helped with his gut health and constantly made sure he had enough warm water. She even placed a hot water bottle over his stomach to soothe it.Once, Edwin’s car broke down in the middle of the road, and Euri drove

"Ah! What are you doing?!" Kiara’s happiness was replaced by fear as Edwin grabbed her hand and dragged her out of bed."You need to come with me right now!"Kiara’s smile froze on her face, and she stumbled while looking at Edwin in disbelief. "Where are you dragging me to, Edwin?"The man who had almost been gentle with her had torn off his mask. A dark look appeared in his eyes when he roared, "You are occupying my wife’s body, and you have to return her to me!""What do you mean?" Kiara turned pale, and she turned back to look pleadingly at her parents. "Mom, Dad, what is going on?"Her parents snapped out of it when they saw the enraged Edwin, and they grabbed his hand, not wanting him to take Kiara away. "No, you can't do this. They're both our daughters! No matter who you choose, they are both our precious children!"Euri chose to leave. Why should Kiara pay the price for it? No! You can't do this!" They cried while trying to protect Kiara, refusing to let Edwin touch her.
