POV: Desi Whitmore

The photographs land on the table between us like grenades.

I stare at them, trying to make sense of what I'm seeing. That's me in the library. That's me walking across the quad. That's me sitting in the coffee shop downtown.

That's me with my hand on someone's arm.

"Otto, this isn't what it looks like."

His face is carved from stone. "Really? Because it looks like you've been lying to me."

My heart hammers against my ribs. The photos are real but the context is completely wrong. The guy in the library? Study partner for Advanced Pack Politics. The quad? Literally just asking for directions to the registrar's office. The coffee shop? Group project meeting that Otto couldn't attend because of his piano lesson.

"Where did you get these?"

"Does it matter?" His voice cracks. "You've been meeting with him behind my back."

"I haven't been meeting with anyone. These are out of context." I reach for his hand but he jerks away like I've burned him. "Otto, please. Just let me

  • Star-Crossed Wolves: Silver Moon Rising   "The Cost of Power"

POV: Ferdinand KingThe vision hit like drowning in fire.Miranda was gone. Not metaphorically, not temporally. Dead, killed by assassins sent by my father to eliminate any threat to his power. I felt her absence like a missing limb, a hole in my chest where something vital used to live. The grief was so overwhelming I collapsed to my knees, retching into the underbrush while my wolf howled with anguish that echoed through the forest. This wasn't real, I knew it wasn't real, but my body didn't care about logic when every instinct screamed that my mate was gone forever."Get up," Prospero's voice cut through the pain. "The trial isn't over.""I can't." The words came out broken, barely human."You can and you will. Because if this were real, Miranda would need you to be stronger than your grief. She would need you to continue the work of making the world safer for others like her."I forced myself to stand, even though every movement felt like tearing open wounds. The vision continued

  • Star-Crossed Wolves: Silver Moon Rising   "The First Test"

POV: Ferdinand KingThe forest behind Prospero's cottage looked different at dawn.Mist clung to the ground like something alive, and the trees seemed to watch me with ancient awareness as I followed Miranda's father deeper into territory that felt older than pack law. My wolf was restless beneath my skin, sensing magic in the air that had nothing to do with normal shifter abilities."The first trial is simple," Prospero said without turning around. "Survive."Before I could ask what he meant, the ground beneath my feet erupted.Vines shot up from the soil, thick as my arm and moving with predatory intent. I shifted mid-leap, my wolf form hitting the forest floor as vegetation wrapped around the space I'd just occupied. The transformation burned through my muscles, faster than it had ever been before, driven by pure survival instinct.Run, my wolf urged. Get away from the magic. But running wasn't the point of this test.I circled back toward the vines, using speed and agility to dodg

  • Star-Crossed Wolves: Silver Moon Rising   "The Sister's Fear"

POV: Desi WhitmoreEmilia doesn't respond for two hours.Helena and I spend that time going through every photo Ian has posted publicly, looking for evidence of stalking or manipulation. We find nothing obvious. Ian's too careful for that. When my phone finally buzzes with Emilia's response, my heart jumps: Library. Third floor study room 7. 20 minutes. Come alone."She wants to meet," I tell Helena."Could be a trap. Ian might be using her."The thought occurred to me too. But something in that carefully worded text - the specified location, the request to come alone - suggests Emilia is as scared of her brother as she is of meeting me."I'm going." I stand, grabbing my bag. "If Ian's there, I'll deal with it.""Text me every fifteen minutes. If I don't hear from you, I'm getting Lear." Helena's expression is serious. "I mean it, Desi. Ian's dangerous."I promise to check in, then head across campus to the library. The third floor is quiet, mostly empty study rooms for group project

  • Star-Crossed Wolves: Silver Moon Rising   "The Arena"

POV: Otto MoorlandThe training center transformed for the challenge.Chairs ringed the main sparring mat, every seat filled with students who'd come to watch the Omega fight the Beta. I stood in the challenger's corner, wearing training gear and trying not to throw up from nerves.Across the mat, Cassio stretched and warmed up. He looked miserable, his usual easy smile replaced by grim determination.Principal Lear stood at the center of the mat, his expression stern. "This challenge will follow traditional pack law. Combat continues until one fighter yields or can no longer continue. Killing blows are forbidden. Excessive force will result in immediate disqualification."He looked at both of us. "This is your last chance to resolve this peacefully.""No," I said at the same time Cassio said, "Otto, please—""Fighters, take your positions."I walked to the center of the mat. My heart hammered so hard I thought it might crack a rib. Around us, the crowd buzzed with speculation and exc

  • Star-Crossed Wolves: Silver Moon Rising   "Preparation"

POV: Otto MoorlandI skipped afternoon classes and went to the training center instead. The gym was empty this time of day, just me and the heavy bags hanging from reinforced chains. I changed into workout clothes and approached the nearest bag, my hands wrapped in tape.I'd never been a fighter. Combat class was my worst subject. While other students sparred with confidence, I always held back, afraid of hurting someone or getting hurt myself. But standing there in the empty gym, I felt different. Harder.I threw a punch. My knuckles connected with the bag with a satisfying thud that echoed through the space. I hit it again. And again. Each impact sent jolts of pain up my arms, but I didn't stop."You're dropping your left shoulder."I spun around to find Bea Sharpe leaning against the doorway, watching me with those sharp green eyes."Didn't ask for advice," I muttered, turning back to the bag."Yeah, well, you need it." She pushed off the wall and walked closer. "If you go into tha
