We were in the middle of cleaning up when we heard the front door open.

“Jade, Zach? Your mom and I are home!”

Crap.

Zach and I both went still and turned to look at each other. The cake was still baking in the oven. We’d wasted too much time earlier, between having sex and cleaning up, we’d only had so much time to go through the recipe and put the mixture in the oven. We were mostly done with the cleaning, but we couldn’t hide the cake. Besides, if we tried to take it out now, we’d ruin it.

I sighed, knowing we were screwed. “We’re in here, Dad.”

“Are you guys making dinner?” Stepmom asked.

We shared another look.

“Not exactly, unless we’re having dessert for dinner.”

Dad walked into the kitchen first and looked around with a frown. He saw the few dishes left in the sink, and some flour I hadn't wiped off the counter yet, eyes narrowed.
