“Someone killed him, Kira. Someone murdered the old man.” This time it was Carson who spoke. His voice was shaking and almost screaming. He was seated beside Mary who had been seated on the couch. Kira took a step back, shaking her head as if she did not believe what she had not heard. To her, the town they lived in was the safest place she knew. How could anyone commit something such as murder in the town? What worse, an old man?

She quickly run to Carson and wrapped her hands around him, trying to sooth him. “Are you both alright? What happened to her?” She let go of Carson and turned her attention to Mary who just stared continuously at nothing in particular.

“She saw the state of the old man. It was my fault. I wasn’t paying attention.” Carson spoke, once again blaming himself. Kira looked at the little girl and wrapped her arms around her to give her comfort. Anderson who stood by the side frowned at Carson.
