Chapter 2

KENNA

I woke up alone the next morning to bright sunlight glaring at me and my body tangled between the sheets.

Memories of what I did last night came crashing down on me like a heavy wave. I had sex with a stranger. And not only that, but he didn't use protection.

"What is wrong with me?" I asked myself in a murmur.

I was incredibly careless last night. What if I got pregnant? No way, that couldn't happen. Not in a million years would it ever be possible for me to get pregnant from a one-night stand. I was just worried about nothing.

I hoped…

"Sean, are you still here?" I asked in a groggy voice as I forced myself out of the bed and walked around the room, searching for him.

I couldn't find him anywhere. He left me here. I went back to the room to pick up my clothes, then I found a note by the bedstand.

I had an amazing time last night. Thank you.

Underneath the note was a wad of hundred-dollar bills that had me gaping at the sight.

"Does he think that I'm a hooker?" I asked myself as I slammed the note back on the stand. "How dare he?"

I wasn't going to take his money. What kind of idiot leaves a woman and drops cash behind, like she's some kind of call girl? I was angry as I put on my clothes and walked out of the hotel room.

And to think that I thought he was different.

"All men are assholes," I muttered to myself as I hailed a cab back to my apartment.

I spend the day at home, watching TV because my shift started at night. I ensured to avoid my landlord before he would delay my going to work. I snuck out to the club and when I got there, I saw my friend, Nikki, standing behind the front counter.

"Welcome to work, princess," she glanced at her watch. "Five minutes early. Wow." She clapped mockingly.

I rolled my eyes, then sat on a stool across the counter. "I had to sneak out before my landlord caught me. I'm way behind on rent, and I have so many bills piling up." I said in a down tone, then rested my head on the counter.

Nikki stroked my hair as she spoke. "What about last night? Greg told me that he had you work as a waitress for two men in the private lounge. Did they give you any tips?"

I raised my head immediately, and a frown formed on my face as I remembered Sean and his friend.

"No, but I went back home with one of them, and he left me. I woke up alone in the hotel room." I covered my face with my palms.

Nikki hissed through her teeth. "You had sex with him? Wow, Kenna. You go, girl!" she cheered me up, and I pulled my hands from my face to stare at her.

"It was the best night of my life. He left me a note saying that he had a good time, then plastered a wad of cash on the bed stand. Like I was some hooker or something." The more I talked about it, the more angry I got.

Nikki leaned in closer. "Did you take the money?" she asked, mischievously.

I pushed her away. "Of course, not! What do you take me for? I left the money there for whosoever wants it!"

Nikki gasped dramatically. "No. No, you didn't. Tell me you didn't do that, and it's just a joke. Tell me you stuffed the money in your pocket and took it home to hide under your pillow in between two bags of chips." She spoke like a crazy person.

"First of all, why would there be two bags of chips under my pillow? Secondly, I can't tell you that it's a joke because it's not. I didn't take the money. I felt so used." I said in a revolted manner.

Nikki facepalmed herself at my expense. "I cannot believe you right now, Kenna. You guys had sex, and he gave you money, what is so wrong in accepting his money? One day, this self-righteous act of yours is going to get you bitten hard in the ass." She narrowed her eyes at me.

I shook my head in dismissal. "I doubt that being aware of my worth is going to get me bitten in the butt. You're just being—"

"The fuck are you two chit-chatting about?" An angry masculine voice spoke up.

I grimaced, sliding off from the stool. Greg came right in the middle and stared at Nikki and me like we were insignificant people.

"One of the guys in the private lounge paid Kenna for the night and she left the money in the hotel, proving that she is as much of a prude as we know she is," Nikki spoke up, and I threw a glare her way.

Greg stared at me like he just heard the most ridiculous thing in his life. "You did what, girly?" he asked in an incredulous tone.

I sighed, placing my hands on my hips. "I left the money. It doesn't mean anything, okay? So can we just forget about it?" I said in a dismissive tone, but the two refused to drop the matter.

"Do you know who that man was that you turned down his money?" Greg asked, and I reared back.

How did that matter? Who cared who he was? He was an asshole and honestly plain rude. He should drink more because the intoxicated version of him was way better than the sober version.

"Am I supposed to…?" I was honestly not interested in anything about Sean.

"Girly, you don't know what kind of luck you have and throw away." Greg shook his head as he spoke, then walked away. He stopped after three steps and turned back to Nikki and me. "Get back to work! I don't wanna see you two girls lazing around, gossiping all over the place."

"Sure, boss." Nikki gave Greg a mock salute, and I nodded in response as well.

Nikki turned back to me once Greg was out of our view. "Are you gonna find this mysterious man who rocked your world and paid you?" she asked.

I scoffed. "No way. That page of my life is closed. I'm not going to think about that night or him again." I crossed my arms and pouted.

Nikki raised a sarcastic brow at me, and I turned away from her and walked over to the changing room of the club.

I was not going to think about last night ever again. It was over and dead forgotten about.

Or so I thought…
